  1. Rant Why is it that the coach of the stone motherless last team with half a dozen rotating starters injured for most of the year, a bevy of kids, retirees and (lets face it) a number of has beens cops it from supporters for having 'no game plan'? Football has been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century and yet many supporters still think that rushed forward thrusts (for the sake of forward thrusts) are a good thing. Ask Geelong how important turn-overs are to their weekly score. Even better, check out the US mens basketabll highlights. Possession footy is the base requirement in todays game that you build your plan on top of. It requires accountability in execution and decision making under pressure and clearly shows up (as on Sunday) those who are lacking. Dont for a second think that kicking long against Port would've accomplished anything other than significantly increasing the margin of our defeat - in direct correlation with an increased turnover rate. I'm stoked that DB has by and large persisted with this 'lack of game plan' and would be happy to see it next year as well (with isolated and appropriate small advances) with yet more youngsters inbound. Rant off. ~ IN: Maric , Petterd, Grimes. OUT: Wona, Bartram, Yze.
  2. FC? Think I remember cringing at some of the comments (in that vein) in the interview.

    Disagree on both assertions.
  4. This is our time. This is our game. The heart-beat ROARS!

It's been thrown around that 300k, or ~3-4% was injury payments. Something to consider. Back ended contracts don't help either. Shudder.
  6. Will be there with a Toaster supporter and the other half. 22-27k is my prediction, weather dependant. 'I haven't heard any sort of marketing for this game.' Jim's been in the papers talking the 20k figure up. I do recall PM being lively re Dockers.
  7. I might get some .. err .. kind words on this one but I'm not that fussed about a game plan at this stage. To turn it on it's head, I'd be worried if such a young group was locked into a specific methodology, positional spread or thought framework. For DB and the players sakes (and the clubs sake over the coming draft drought) the time needs to be taken to experience, challenge, assess at the most fundamental levels in the tasks given and volunteered. This can't readily be done in a rigid structure, so IMO it hasn't been.
  8. Fantastic footballer whose influence was forever reduced when the rules were changed under him. Bleeding colours.. Jeff did plenty of that too.
  9. "martin is Andrew Gaze 2.0" I'll take that.
  10. "So if Brock is on 200k a year he has donated 5% of his wage. Lets say you're on 50,000 a year, where's your 2,500?" Agreed. Fantastic leadership Brock. Edit: Re Choko, Huh?
  11. Donlan:.. AFL Debut: Round 5, Hawthorne v Brisbane, MCG, 2005. AFL Matches: 57 Kennedy: AFL Matches: 426. AFL Finals: 34. AFL Grand Finals: 5 (Heath) Ryan: AFL Debut: Round 3, Geelong vs. Melbourne, Skilled Stadium, 2008. AFL Matches: 6 (Shaun) Ryan: AFL Matches: 124. AFL Finals: 8 Which Ryan ?
  12. So in light of the news re player payments to go from ~100% to 92.5%, how does 333k/year sound now ?
  13. There was something like a cross of that and the 2008 mens shirt at the MFC shop when I dropped in today, without the solid red though. Quite sharp if you've the fit.
  14. Dashed down during lunch (glorious day for it) and picked up 150$ worth. Cuff links should go down well for Fathers Day.
  15. Fond memories of the pom pom. And the demon that went with it.
  16. Re Casey: I'm very happy the way it's all progressing. Travel? Pfft. I travel for 3 hrs round trip daily for work. Our players are not so precious and unprofessional as to jeapardise their careers because of travel. Commitment 'aint conditional. Re FC: Chuckle. Well said TheVoice, I agree. IMO, FC in general has been big on noise but small on substance for most of this year. Caro is the consistant standout in and under performer. Hutchison is the shadow boxing frustrated forward who can't hit his opponents let alone the scoreboard, but still manages to KO one of his own players. Archer is the 16 yo rookie who's too shy to venture an opinion lest he soil himself. Gazza is the outside captain who calls new guys and veterans to task for not adhering to the running sheet in his head.
  17. Serious question: If it can be argued both ways (the uncertainty), how does keeping him equate to an intrinsically better/worthwhile deal? Known knowns and known unknowns?
  18. One in eight want Sundays. One in thirty three want Sunday twilight. ... One in a hundred (thousand?) want Monday games. (?) Next years block-buster: Melbourne v Port @ AAMI, 6pm Monday night, fta delayed telecast 11pm, LIVE Fox. (?) (sorry :D)
  19. Australia is nation 783 or so apparently too ...
  20. "I think that Jones was dropped because of his lack of pace, which could have been exploited by the Dons' speedy midfield if he'd been kept in the side." - Chook Interesting. I also think that ("copping the most attention from other clubs through the middle" - Neita3000) has lowered his effectiveness & confidence, and has done some bodily damage as well. An opportunity to determinedly work back into the tempo will to wonders. On a semi related note, I'm becoming more and more impressed with our versatility even, as it is, in its infancy. DB on target.
  21. I don't think it's primarily form related myself (not that it wouldn't have played some factor), but more wear and tear. This gives him an opportunity to address both, and recently blooded team-mates a chance to step up.
  22. "I don't know where the $115,000 payout figure has come from but while Spargo is filling in, if this is an honorary role (does anyone know?) then we might save about that amount till the new CEO starts." Fair enough. A statement to that effect would have been gloriously appropriate though, given the circumstances/timing, don't you think? Hindsight I guess. With that, I agree with those praising the move. I don't think PM could have hit the next group of milestones the club was aiming for - never mind those of the AFL.
