Fired up is right, hope you keep some water handy. You make a fair point and when we look back this club has hung on to "tradeable" players far too long. I think Robert Walls wrote an article last year about our club and it's trading options. Most of us loved Travis but everyone agrees it was right to trade him. Over the last 2-3 years a smarter club may well have looked closer at White, Yze, Bruce, Robertson, Green and maybe even Wheatley, Miller and Sylvia. Although I'm a fan of the last 2 and reckon they'll be good football players for us. I think Daniher became too friendly with these older players and couldn't see the wood for the trees Of course this is really easy in hindsight and I probably wouldh've been shocked if these players had been traded. But 2 years ago we wouldh've got some great draft picks.

The last round could see quite a few retirees running around. I'm sure a send off will be arranged
-
The idea of this thread was to come up with ideas to get bums on seats not tell us what we already know. By the way, our Total Player Payments is quite high due to our ageing old "stars", It'll be alot lower next year.
-
Captain Jack Watts, Only it'll be fom 60 on a tighter angle after taking the MOTY over Natanui of West Coast!! It's going to be glorious
-
Are you saying NN's better than Watts and that Watts is average? Maybe you can fill in the names of all our leaders
-
Just quietly BB59 we're not sitting on an abundance of quality leaders down at the club. I'm talking captains of the ilk of Flower, Lyon, Neitz. If we're all chiefs I think the standard has come back too far. With Watts I'm talking real, ingrown footy smarts and it sounds like he has them. NN - Not so sure.
-
If casey scorp is right the recurrent costs of Olympic Park are high, how do we afford this. I want both like you. I just wonder where the money's coming from
-
Not a conflict but a possible fiscal problem
-
Slightly off the point: I reckon DB will pick Jack Watts over Natanui. From what I can find out about Watts he's a footballer and a leader. If we can organise something for Warnock then a CHF might just be the best fit for us at the moment. I've heard all the reviews about Natanui but he comes without the real footy smarts and I think that's what we need, hence Watts. Imagine a gun CHF staightening us up and allowing Bate, Miller, Sylvia,Wona, Davey to back him up. Dudes, I'm excited. The jigsaw may be closer to complete than we realise!

At last, a stong decision showing strong leadership and direction. Long time in the coming for this footy club. Great decision DB

Just when you thought things were getting better along comes a Demon supporter to throw a Volvo spanner in the works! With supporters like this guy no wonder we're struggling. "a community campaign against the land deal". Sounds like a great start to our community involvement. Can't they see the long term benefits of our involvement. Surely this involvement will generate financial benefits for the local community. Hopefully with some good negotiation skills we'll get this deal done without anymore fuss.

Maybe Watts or Hurley at CHF, Miller out of the square, Woona crumbing, Bater and Colin as HF's running amok and PJ Roaming around as a tall crunching type to keep the backmen on there toes. Is it just me or does that sound like a fairly impressive forward line. Maybe Garland and Maric/Davey as well Hang on, is that depth in the forward line? Barring injury and presuming these guys keep developing is there Gold in them there hills?
-
It's on! Demons hit the jackpot I like the sound of saying that, but really I have no clue on the matter. However I've always loved all things Indian so this would be a perfect fit for mine.
-
I think maybe Volvo. The whole Casey thing just sounds better and better. Garry might have some news for us tonight.
-
I read in the paper (Caroline Wilson I think) that PG did have it extended and we had to pay it out. Check elsewhere maybe?
-
If it's raining he might not play. Can Martin take some hit outs in the back half? Then you've got Juhnson up forward and a bullocking role for the Russian through the centre. Not so bad and I think it's time for a passing of the ruck batten, with one of Natanui or Warnock a chance for us.
-
This may have been done at a meeting that was scheduled for today, here's hoping
-
Hey Rhino, after our little chat the other day, thought you should read this. Clears up some issues for you re: Casey not needing such things as new and updated sports facilities. Looks like they're getting them anyway
-
I'd say that would be the case but Bendigo and Coburg took on their Afl affiliates colours and nickname so it would be great if we could persuade them to do the same - Money always talks but they've probably got more than us. Maybe we'll become the Melbourne Scorpions and play in their colours
-
Brock(V.Capt) Miller Davey Jones McDonald(Capt) Although Bruce will probably replace Davey Green - Possible trade bait. I know, I know, but he's got value and he's getting on.
-
According to the age today there was a meeting held today so we'll hopefully know more soon. I reckon thev Casey Demons playing in our colours would be a great start to what will hopefully be a fruitful relationship for all concerned. Is McNamee at the tennis and missing this meeting?
-
Fair point, but I read 'em all, can't help it
-
Not sure what you mean. But it cost us in the vicinity of this amount. I just wasn't sure of the exact amount. Hope that clears up any confusion
-
WHO CARES - can we lose all topics that mention him.
-
Paying out Steve Harris who was resigned by PG and then sacked. I think that cost us around $350.000, but I'm not sure Quite a few high paid older players. Neitz,Yze,White,Robbo,Holland. We have comparitively high football dept spending because we are at the end of a cycle of sucess(if that's what you call the last 10 years). Then we find ourselves on the bottom with low attendances, bad game times, sunday and Pay TV and less sponsors money. Add these together and it's easy to turn a good profit into a bad loss. On the upside we'll clean out the rest of the deadwood at year's end, tighten a few strings, play in Canberra and with Big Jim at the helm probably get a few extra sponsors and a boost in membership sales. If the AFL help out with a few more prime time games, we should turn a profit for the next few years. Of course we will need to start winning at some point next year to ensure we get some sustained growth. Hopefully we'll be generating some excitement with the continued improvement in our young players and some quality draft picks. Any of Natanui, Rich, Hurley , Watts should do that. Just hang on because I reckon it's going to be one hell of a ride.
