  1. Description covered in Dave Missons report: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2014-06-24/david-misson-rd-15-update
  2. I'll say it again......the VFL umpires are far, far superior to the clowns we have at AFL level. They call the infringements against the rules, like incorrect disposal. And they throw the ball up straight away instead of indicating that they are going to exit the area backwards like the AFL have started doing again this season. I have yet to see any umpire NOT go backwards. The AFL stopped bounces around the ground to get the game going and it has reverted to this elaborate ballet now which takes longer. Eddie was right this week when he said the reason for the rolling mauls we see is the umpires.....use the whistle and break it up and don't let it go on.
  3. The VFL players review indicated that JKH needed a rest from AFL level. He is a first year player after all. Remember that was exactly what Roos said he would do with our young players. No point burning them out. Salem did his time, Toumpas is doing likewise....they will be in and out of the AFL side for a while yet.... The result was bad, but was another good example of why we won't be keeping a good load of these VFL players next year. Nicholson, Byrnes, Strauss, Barry and Tapscott can write their tickets now. Blease is close to the same. Evans might only be saved by his contact. Not one of those players are threatening for senior selection and so will not be a loss come year end. Michie & Gawn are ready for a recall, with Toumpas and JKH when they are freshened up again.
  4. Worked for Scully....... Back on subject.......I don't know whether Chip will stay or go. At the start of the season it was a concern should he go. Roos has brilliantly shown the team that we don't need him as our number 1 defender any more. If he goes, he will not be missed. If he stays he can be a real contributor to the future success of the club. I hope if he chooses to leave, because he " wishes to taste success" he considers the high failure rate of this method. Not everyone gets lucky like Brian Lake. Nathan Buckley left Brisbane and missed out on 3 flags. Probably would have been 4 if he was in the side as well! Leigh Colbert to North....Jared Rivers to Geelong....Nick dalSanto to North....Sylvia to Freo ( might work yet if he can get in the side often enough)....Goddard to Essendon.....
  5. For Iva and those who want to listen to some of the original songs, variations and alternatives, we have links in Demonlands articles section: http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/36665-club-theme-songs-their-origins-by-george-on-the-outer/
  6. Perhaps Sammy has an insight into what could happen in the next 12 months. It all depends on Liz lasting until then, so there is a real chance next years fixture might be the Kings Birthday game!
  7. Spot on assessment of all concerned Joeboy. It's good to have a reviewer who doesn't care about reputations and last weeks efforts, just the game at hand! Keep up the realistic and truthful insights that others can't see through their rose coloured glasses.....
  8. Half way through the season.....regardless of form and ability, what I find absolutely amazing especially when compared with previous years is the number of MFC listed players who are available: Sam Blease, Alex Georgiou, James Strauss, Daniel Nicholson, Dom Barry, Jordie McKenzie, Aidan Riley, Dean Kent, Luke Tapscott, James Harmes, Jimmy Toumpas, Jack Fitzpatrick, Viv Michie, Michel Evans Within that group we have backs, runners, mids and maybe a ruck/forward in Fitzpatrick. And all but one have played senior footy. Last year players were getting a seniors run simply because there was no-one else. This year we can replace those injuries which will occur with like types. And players who don't deserve a call up don't have to be. Unbelievable what Roos and his team have achieved in half a year.......
  9. Only $395 to go to hit our target....... http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/donate/ If we beat Port this weekend, the traffic to this site will mean we need a bigger server........
  10. OD & L dvC.........does the double posting or slow posting occur only when a "quote" function has been used?
  11. That reminded me of another story told last night by Rod Grinter..... Apparently Swooper had arranged for the team to run a cross-country in the Ballarat area, but warned them that parts of it would take them through private property. So they were told to be careful about what they did on the run. Unbeknown to the team he had arranged for a couple of the local yokels to fire some shot-guns as they passed through.......no doubt encouraging a concerted effort on the run, and apparently John thought it hilarious....but perhaps not the players at the time! Again, I doubt we would see that happening today.
  12. No. We are allowed up to 6 rookies and then another 3 "class B" rookies. These class B rookies include" an International player who is not an Australian citizen, and has not lived in Australia for a substantial period"
  13. I spoke with Maia last night. Yes a decision has to be made at year end.
  14. Further to Robbies insights: the best part of the night for me was the video contrasting the experiences of playing football in their day with Hassa Mann, Robbie Flower, Todd Viney, Rod Grinter and Jack Grimes. Before the match we were told stories of pasta, steak etc, while Hassa told of being recommended a mixture of 4 raw eggs and worstershire sauce....which he promptly vomited! JG's speciality is a smoothie with 12 bananas! The stories of cigarettes being smuggled out to players at 3/4 time and trainers running out with a hip flask of whiskey isn't something that happens today either.... Best part was the enthusiasm of everyone, especially the players who are just so upbeat now that they can see and experience what Roos is drumming into them about how to play and how to win. And the Foundation Heroes put in yet again....$600,000+ on the night. One supporter alone pledged $60K!! With another 32 Heroes signed since last year, the group gets even bigger. This year PJ and PR signed up as well! A fantastic night and good signs that this Club is on the right track, and has a most generous group of supporters that enables us to achieve things otherwise that would not be possible....
  15. Not quite......avoid the APPs and connect direct to Casey radio http://tunein.com/radio/Casey-Radio-977-s7651/ No troubles with their broadcast on gameday.
  16. Only $570 to go folks.........It may not sound much, but it is $570 that Andy has to get out of his own pocket..... http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/donate/ The folks at Demonology are facing the same scenario, and have started a drive as well. These sites cost the owners money to run. With so many participants, and the pleasure that Demonland brings to us, a small donation of $5 or $10 is not too much to ask surely?
  17. mac...you have to give Worksafe a bit of slack. They can only investigate when there is evidence of an unsafe workplace. An unsafe scaffold is obvious. Suspected drug use is not. In all likelihood that evidence has not been available. They need proof of the use of illegal drugs. What is interesting is that NOW they are acting....ergo they have been provided with proof of some sort to warrant an investigation.
  18. And we are in sight of the finishing line with only $770 to go: http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/donate/ That way we can solve Nashers heart problems and Andy's kids will be able to eat again!
  19. $820 to go....... .http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/donate/
  20. Lazy, Lazy, Lazy......a wasted talent. going the same way as Col Sylvia without the off-field distractions.
  21. For those that haven't noticed....... Demonland is getting toward the targets to keep it alive. So thanks to all who have donated or subscribed...but we need about another $1000!. http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/donate/ It's simply not right that Andy has to fork out of this own pocket for OUR entertainment and sanity....So please help him ( and us tragics )
  22. Deanox has identified the relevant rules, but it is the umpires who have taken it upon themselves to "go for the easy way out" ....... If THEY determine that a player has no prior opportunity then they NEVER have to call incorrect disposal. So all we see is rolling mauls as the ball is thrown, dropped and spilled ... Secondly if they SEE no attempt to dispose of the ball when 3 players are lying on top of the ball carrier then it is holding the ball. But they will NEVER SEE an attempt because there are 3 players lying on top of the person, but this seems to have eluded Campbell and Geishen before him..... The other truly annoying facet of umpiring in 2014 is using the whistle, then calling advantage. If there is an advantage, there is no need to whistle, just call "play on" . If you are the defensive side you don't know whether to continue or not after a whistle. Continue and you risk 50 meter penalty. Don't and the opposition run past you.....
  23. Bob the trouble is that Spencer doesn't crash and bash. He doesn't establish body contact or position, which Jolly did so well. He looks directly at his opponent first, then tries to locate where the ball has gone. Because his vision moves from one to the other, he achieves neither. If he relocates where the ball is in the air, he is then unable to hit it to advantage, again because he has been eyeing the opponent and not where he is planning to put the ball. It would be like a basketballer closing his eyes before shooting. Spencer reverted to this style this week, but didn't do it in the St.Kilda game, so I don't know why the change in approach. Pedersen was able to directly body Nicholls and got the desired effect in the 3rd quarter. That's when we started to get some clearances.
  24. Totally agree with both these observations. Spencer reverted to his worst rucking. Instead of looking at the ball, he keeps looking at the opponent. Result: he never gets his hand to the ball, which is his job as a ruckman. Combine that with the fact that the guy just can't mark overhead, or kick the ball at AFL standard......The only reason he has got a game this season is we've had no other options at all. He was virtually off the ground for the whole 3rd quarter, when Pedersen did the ruck work. That's when we showed some reversal of the one-way traffic out of the centre. Jamar is a certainty for this week, and the sooner Gawn can get back as number 2 the better.
  25. There were a number of occasions that Dunn chose to do the dinky kick to the pocket, when the camera behind the goals clearly showed 2 free and unmarked Melbourne players in the middle of the ground. It wasn't the team that took the whole game to "open their eyes".... it was Dunn. Yes he can kick the ball, but his awareness of the game around himself is appalling. What would have been the result if those type of kicks had been taken earlier in the game, and similar easy goals resulted?......certainly not another respectable loss.....
