Farewell Sam Weideman
Yes, or you have to be physically strong like Mumford, Lade, Natanui. Point is today 197cm alone is not enough, especially when you come up against Witts, Natanui, English, Reeves, Lobb & Cox.

Training Ground?
Trouble is this Board has been saying for the past 2 years " we can't say anything yet because of what the government will allow us to say". To date: nothing! Prior to that Glen Bartlett said he would have a training facility before he quit. Nothing, and the same Board is still there. Prior to that.....go back to Ian Ridley when proposing the merger with Hawthorn....we will get a training facility! Go to the 2020-23 MFC strategic plan. Item 5 " start construction of a new Melbourne home base facility" 12 months to go and nothing! So other clubs can "get millions" which are used to refurbish existing facilities, but we don't even have that. The ONLY club in the AFL which doesn't!

Farewell Sam Weideman
The guy is 197cm. Too small for an AFL level ruck. Only got the job at Casey after Daw retired. 2023 will be his 8th season at the club. And people still think he can be turned into something.

2022 GRAND FINAL
The TV ratings for this game should put to bed the lie that Sydney are the most supported team in the competition: https://www.afr.com/companies/sport/afl-grand-final-a-ratings-bomb-for-channel-7-20220925-p5bkt9 How is it that barely 300K watch "their team" from NSW in the GF , when supposedly they have 1.2 M "supporters" across the country? And that assumes the NSW viewers are Swans supporters.... oh yes, Roy Morgan think so: https://www.roymorgan.com/findings/sydney-swans-are-the-most-widely-supported-afl-club-ahead-of-collingwood-west-coast-and-essendon

AFLW: 2022 Fixture (Season 7)
Well done Richmond. Kept Brisbane down in the leaders pack. 18 points to 14!!!

AFLW: 2022 Fixture (Season 7)
Will hopefully improve with the addition of Duffy this week. A genuine forward. Harris has moved up the ground. Daisy is not a forward, and we have depended on Kate Hore and the mids to put score on the board. Critically % will be a big factor with this biased fixture. If your team is fixtured to play the new sides in the competition you will get big % boost. With only 10 games, there will be a log-jam at the top and second rate sides will get a finals gig, same as when they ran the conference system before.

Hawks racism allegations (merged thread)
Probably because names were named in the report, but de-identified for public consumption.

Extra "MAGIC" Round in 2023?
Good idea if it gets rid of pre-season matches, as is proposed. So the players won't be affected. Now watch Gil give it to Tassie in the first year.....and we get allocated Queenstown as the ground to play at: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-09-18/queenstown-gravel-oval-why-was-it-built/11499186

Adam Tomlinson on the move?
Best way to guarantee another ankle strain. Strapping is good post injury to get back on the day, but if you want it to repair, stop strapping further.

AFLW: Rd 04 vs Brisbane
Libby doing it all on her own. Heath great at tackling, but forgets about where the ball is in general play. How many goals did they get from kicking it off the ground in the goal square? Daisy wasted in the forward line. Need to bring Duffey in to kick goals. L. Pearce needs to hit the ball away from the opposition goals.

Trade and Free Agency rumours
Not a fan of Melksham by any means, but the reason for retaining him is quite simple: Between main and rookie list we will probably and have lost : M.Brown, Rosman, Daw, Baker, and Jackson. That is 5 list spots already, and we will in all likelihood get 2 draft picks for Jackson. We don't know what Bedford and Chandler will do, but if they were to go, then probably more draft picks. Even with 5 picks, that means our 5th pick is pick 90 at the earliest. If Melksham is delisted another draft spot, then that becomes pick 108. Is Melksham better than a speculative pick 90? One would have to think so.

A message to the marketing department
Nothing. Given there have been announcements about Commonwealth games and Womens soccer world cup from the state government, with NOTHING about AAMI park, I suspect that NOTHING is what we are getting. I'm expecting window dressing to cover up the " we can't tell you anything unless the politicians say so" line we have been fed for the past 2 years.

CASEY: PF vs Brisbane
Exactamundo! They had to get rid of Stephenson and Treloar so they could stay under salary cap. Getting rid of Grundy enables them to pay for the increases that will be expected from Daicos x2, Ginnivan and others on their recruiting radars.

Home Ground Attendance % per membership
The Title says it all.....Useless AFL stats. I assume the home game attendance is the average over the season. That of course is influenced by who you play. A home game against Collingwood for example boosts the average considerably. A home game against GC does the opposite. Geelong stadium being redeveloped with only 20K that can get in, so that drops them down considerably. North & Hawthorn play games in Tassie at a ground with 20K capacity. Memberships? We all know these numbers are fudged. Saints $1 membership last year was the classic. Does anyone really believe North have 50K members when only 9K for both sides turn up for a home game against Melbourne? As for the supporters statistics. Every year the same survey comes out with the same fundamental error. If you ask a regular Joe Blow in NSW which AFL side he supports, the answer will be in all probability Sydney. Then that survey response is translated Australia wide, even if they get zero in all other states. Result, Sydney supposedly have the highest number of supporters. The same scenario would occur if you asked Victorians which Rugby League side they supported. Storm would lead the tally, except no-one in Victoria, SA & WA gives a rats about RL.

My 3 word player analysis V Sydney
Zero tackles for the game.

TRAINING: Thursday 1st September 2022
One of the best things about this session was before it happened. Out on the ground were a whole stack of young kids kicking the ball amonst themselves.....and all wearing Demon jumpers. That hasn't been seen for a number of years. We lost a generation, but we might have snagged the next!

AFLW - last touch out of bounds rule
Exactly, and the sooner they introduce this to the Mens game the better. Stops all that Umpire interpretation rubbish.

Training Ground?
We don't have "world class" facilities. We share facilities with Storm, Rebels and Victory at AAMI. We have to book gym, rehab, pools, ice baths with them. We have 44 players on the list, how many are there among those 3 other clubs? And our Womens team now trains at Gosch's/AAMI. We don't have a centralised admin and we don't have that housed with the football department. We are spread among multiple offices throughout the MCG. The admin isn't even centralised there. The Casey extended facility was built for the AFLW/VFLW teams courtesy of contributions from AFL and Casey council. It is being used by our mens team when there. And no rehab/pool facility included. It ain't world class. One only has to see what Essendon currently have, and what Adelaide are plannning, to see world class.

Training Ground?
Prior to 1959 there were no cups produced. Only Flags. In 2004 the AFL allowed clubs to purchase newly minted cups won before 1959. They now receive a cup and a flag when the Premiership is won.

Training Ground?
I have been hearing the same story for 30 years at the AGM. From Ridley to Bartlett through the years, the same story. And now we are hearing the same again. Two years ago Pert and Bartlett said we would have an answer in 12 months. 1 year later we are told they can't say anything under government instructions. Something coming, something being negotiated. Caulfield, Elsternwick Park, Junction oval, even digging up Yarra Park. All have come to nothing. Dogs another $30M to redevelop. Richmond $65M to redevelop, Hawthorn $120M to build, Adelaide similar: https://www.afc.com.au/news/1206857/new-facility-update ..and these are clubs with existing training and admin facilities.
