  1. Thought his days were numbered after the mid season reshuffle - particularly given that our forward line set up, especially for the first half of the season, was diabolical. I like McCartney, and I appreciate his contributions to the club, but it’s clear some changes need to be made. Would be very happy to see Alan Richardson in this role.
  2. I had thought injuries and key players being out of form were the reason behind our woeful season. I no longer blame just these two factors. Goodwin’s had a poor year.
  3. It’s up there with 2003 as one of the hardest seasons to watch. I’ve just hated it. We have no soul.
  4. I like pick 7. Seems always to land really good players.
  5. Yeah, nice post. Jones is a club legend. He deserves a new contract, and I hope and expect he will sign a new one.
  6. I agree. Roos laid the defensive foundations and structures very effectively, and it looks and feels as though Goodwin has unpicked all of this rather than using it as the base from which to build the team's offensive capabilities.
  7. I reckon May is great. Personally, I'd have Gawn and May as co-Captains next year, if the co-Captain model is to be adopted going forward.
  8. I’d definitely give him one more year IF he wants it.
  9. I think Goodwin should, and will, have some learnings from this year, I suspect about adopting more of a tempo approach within games and in relation to playing players in their natural positions. That said, there is absolutely no doubt that we have been cruelled by injuries throughout the year. It seemed to me that the other On The Couch panel members realise this, and they still believe we are a top 4-6 team - they simply allowed Lyon to have his rant. I expect it was all quite pre-meditated and that the show’s producers love the debate it has generated. The reality is that we should’ve beaten the team that the panelists on the same program stated were favourites for the flag the day earlier and, but for profligate kicking would’ve beaten, albeit with a forward line consisting of Harrison Petty, Bailey Fritsch and Jordan Lewis, and having one of our key mids out injured for the entire second half. There’s a bit of D Trump hyperbole to Lyon’s rant - but, as we all know, populist rants are super compelling to the masses who love that sort of rhetoric. I’m backing Goodwin in. Would be good to bring in some new high quality assistant coaches though in the off season IMO (some of whom I expect will be available).
  10. No way in the world should we even entertain trading Brayshaw. ?
  11. I’d be embarrassed to be the recipient of that free if I was an opposing ruckman.
  12. Seriously, the best post of the year.
  13. Top post LG.
  14. I like Weideman.
  15. Bloody. Oath! We won that thing against all odds. All Demon haters can get stuffed.
  16. It'll be slightly ironic if we lose to Carlton: in that the media is presently crying out for Roos to save the Blues; in circumstances where the Blues have just beaten us. Perhaps we should also join the hunt for Roos' signature? That said, I reckon we're not as bad as many here think we are. There are reasons, most of which are plain for all to see, as to why we have under-performed this year.
  17. Yeah, he’s pretty good.
  18. My God. What an amazing man.
  19. Cannot believe we lost that game.
  20. Heartbreaking stuff. Unbelievably hard to explain to the boys. All the very best wishes to the family. You never get over this stuff. Ever.
  21. Seriously - I cannot believe some of the comments here about Lewis. Just pathetic.
  22. I’m not worried either. Just annoyed that what otherwise should’ve been a great season is already over. I still think the future’s very promising, on and off the field. I do want to see a bit from May and Lever before the end of the year though (as a big supporter of the recruitment of each of them), and for TMac to regain his contested marking form of 2018.
  23. Fair dinkum - I have a tear in my eye. I’ve watched it about 8 times. And sent it to everyone I know. I think my wife’s heart is finally beating true. His Dad is a freakin legend. Baker is a new favourite.
  24. He plainly didn’t hear the ‘play on’ call and didn’t want to give away a 50 (when he could otherwise have a had a shot at goal), then gets sling tackled into the turf without any resistance (bloke should get a week for that), Smith’s pretty well knocked out, and they get the free. Seriously ... We were the better team. Loved the effort. Loved the game style. Loved some of the return to form from key players, eg, TMac, Hunt, bursts from Jeffy etc. Loved the performance of the new kids wearing the red and the blue. Hated our woeful set shot kicking. Hated the umpiring. Hated the Weagles supporters (they make NRL Bulldog supporters look positively enlightened). Hated Nathan Vardy - he should be suspended for his lack of class. And still hate the fact that we lost a game that we could have, perhaps should have, won. Not sure how I feel - so many positives and negatives. It’s probably this headspace that prompted some dude to invent sweet and sour pork many years ago. We can beat GWS next week.
  25. It’s always a compelling narrative to see players who work bloody hard for their opportunity, and then seize their chance. Lockhart and Hore play like they know what a big deal it really is, and you can just see how grateful they are for the opportunity, and how much they respect it. I really like both of these guys. They definitely add value to the squad.
