Nah, may have played in the GF if we had made it. -
Hugh Greenwood jumps ship to North Melbourne

I think this is great event to stop clubs screwing around with players. They'll think twice about doing that with a required player as the ice has been broken on how to pinch these players.- 56 replies

Interesting on the digital membership. The physical one's are important for junior members, my son loves getting his and showing it off.

I think this is a great move.I would imagine he'll be working with closely Taylor Harris and how she leads and works with the other forwards. -
Will a team improve enough to challenge us next year?
darkhorse72 replied to WERRIDEE's topic in Melbourne Demons
Every year teams will challenge those at the top, that's footy. Reviewing the finals and H&A, barely any top 8 side threatened us over the journey. Has any of the top 8 a new player that would change their chances, not in trading they haven't. But they might develop and refine a new system that can crack ours. Is saying that, our teams philosophy of total selflessness makes up for gaps in our players, but doing what the team needs first and they have learnt how it leads to success. Given our age demographic we should continue at least incremental improvements in playing decision marking and skills. This has already been flagged by Gawny. The next half decade looks very bright, but there are always challenges. -
Great news, hopefully we get him for a late pick under father/son.

Rule needs refinement from the umpires, but it helped us this year.

Whelan has an important role. But its really a non issue compared to what the article is making out. I would say clubs are very good at working with indigenous players today and supporting them. Our history with our indigenous players in the past says we do the right thing by our player when we can.

Totally agree, but with the lists being smaller the club use it to keep known talent, tick Eddie betts was on a rookie contract, bit of a joke. Is should be for new/young player given a chance to develop. I can see the AFL making some changes on this, maybe putting a games played/time served limit on rookies.

New General Manager of Football Operations: Marcus Wagner

Thats what I'm thinking, as long as we don't get the guy/girl that managed the player salaries and the TPP budget, he/she screwed that one up. -
Remember wha Burgo said, a hard preseason makes the season easier....

Thats because they linked to The West Newspaper online site, you need to pay. Sorry I don't have membership there either. Maybe on the AFL site?

Online article on Taj on his combine, he's quick over 20. Quote from Taylor included. https://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/afl-draft/afl-draft-2021-melbourne-father-son-prospect-taj-woewodin-impresses-at-combine-as-nervous-dad-stays-away-c-4261588

True. Hence, the way Scott picks pretty much the same team every year. I also explain that to my junior team I coach (We do rotate positions) but they want to play midfield, I say who are you going to replace in there? Give them the incentive to improve on their training/effort to overtake a regular in that position.
-
But building a tank to run is the clubs job in development, same with kicking issues. But Scott has his idea of the team and its hard to break into hence their old age.

Great for him and his development. You can't develop in you stay in the same environment you whole career. If he's good he may make his way back to us one day.

I think it says he had clear plans and intentions to be a successful coach long term. JT and getting Hogan in that mini draft. It turned out he did not have the skills/ability to step up to being the senior AFL coach and obviously got little real support within the club at that time, also at a time out club was not in a good place in any fashion. He should have made his entire career as an assistant coach, most likely would have continued to be successful. Like many NFL/soccer assistants never strive to be the senior coach and are very highly regarded.

This cartoon pretty much sums it up...still got the Cup though.

Kate Roffey, the unsung hero of our success
darkhorse72 replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's take more than one individual, but a club needs a clear direction from for everyone to go Ina nd the CEO/president have a major role in that. Interesting point about 5/6 having female presidents, though the Richmond wins screw that data alot! But Aussie rules in pretty unique in world football codes, with half of our spectators/supporters being women. Does not have in other footy codes around the world (they send administrators to try and work out our secret). Meaning there is less gatekeepers when it comes to women in footy rules, including at grassroots clubs where there are lots. of women running them.
