  1. Better than the jockey. Damien Oliver got off and told the trainer it was one of his poorer rides and the horse was never given a chance. Finally got him out when last with 100m to go and he flew home for 6th. Hope he can win next time. Shows how dangerous it is when Oliver had a bad fall last night. Hopefully he is ok. Noble Game at 3.58 at Bendigo sunday and Man of Awe monday 1.35 Warnambool.
  2. It just amazes me that at this time every year we have a long list of injuries and several long term. Disappointed to see Evans out for long term as I hoped for him to be my improver this year. Hope we can keep him at the club even if he doesn't play much this year. I think he is very talented.
  3. I hesitate to advise but Briefed at Sandown today at 3.58, should run well as track is softer for him.
  4. I get the feeling we will not get anything from GWS if Sheedy can help it.
  5. I thought it was a poor ride for a horse with a lot of weight.
  6. Just won his first at canberra today at 20 to 1. Has improved 2 starts since gelding.
  7. Don't want to make excuses for Watts but disposal to him was poor, weather didn't suit him either and we know he can play.
  8. Guys, my line was a simple " says it all ' on a thread topic of "one mark half". It was not a scientific analysis of all that went on. It was not a hysterical "we are finished" , " we are crap" etc. Clearly the inference is that if you have only had one mark, your disposal is poor. Most AFL footballers can take an uncontested chest mark. We had one for the half. We were scoreless for the half. How would you explain that when we had some of the ball? My answer, poor disposal, evidenced by a poor marking stat. Would the Coach disagree with me? Yes we won the game. Yes the Lions only got 1 goal in the same first half, but they had several more shots at goal and chances to score than we did. Yes the conditions were poor but both sides had the same. For what it is worth, I thought we were lucky to win that game against the better side and unlucky to lose the first game when we were the better side. I thought Ablett was the difference in the first match.
  9. Does anyone know why Sellar didn't get that free for high hit at 10 minutes in second half. He was actually hit in the head twice and the Fox Footy boys were stunned, as was I, after seeing the replay.
  10. I prefer Bennell from wing forward but no further back. I can't see why he can't be our small forward.
  11. Also think Stefan Martin has some real X factor, even though the conditions certainly didn't favour him tonight.
  12. I thought that was a pretty good summary of a "half" of football, where we were scoreless and had one mark and the other side had 32 marks according to the Fox Footy boys. Where is my "alarmist negativity" in that ? I don't recall saying we were finished, or tear up the membership tickets. I was just stating the reason IMO why we were pathetic and that was that our disposal was terrible.
  13. Might have one of the cooler days in summer on GC today, also wet. May help us a bit. Interested to see if new game style is evident. Coach says it will be.
  14. Is it possible, that With Pick 1 JV already known, maybe 1 compo pick to be traded for a player like Gaff, only leaving maybe a second round pick live and then maybe a couple of rookies to select, it was thought that with the recruiting committee and TV, that would be ok for 1 year and we could save a salary?
  15. That would be a pity and pretty typical of our luck to not even be able to fill a squad of fit players in the first contest of the year. Both Suns and Lions have 34 so we may have some really stuffed players on sunday. I know its only 4 quarters but you have to take into account how many the opposition have/use and the weather. Hope its cooler than predicted. Another reason it is disappointing is because less boys are getting the hit out and for the rookies the experience.
  16. I thought they were taking 34 and I count 29. It will be hot and humid so I hope they have a few more fit boys to take up.
  17. Melbourne squad 2 Nathan Jones 3 Clint Bartram 4 Jack Watts 5 Jordan Gysberts 6 Matthew Bate 7 Jamie Bennell 8 James Frawley 11 Mitch Clark 12 Colin Sylvia 14 Lynden Dunn 15 Ricky Petterd 16 Jack Grimes 18 Brad Green 20 Colin Garland 22 Brent Moloney 25 Tom McDonald 26 Daniel Nicholson 27 Jared Rivers 28 Joel MacDonald 30 James Sellar 34 Stefan Martin 36 Aaron Davey 38 Jeremy Howe 40 Mark Jamar 44 Rohan Bail 46 Josh Tynan 47 Tom Couch 48 Jack Fitzpatrick 49 James Magner
