  1. I think Sheeds has just showed his hand about how much he wants that first pick. GWS are resting Ward and Greene, their two best players this year, because of slight groin soreness or the onset of mild op symptoms. Patton also out for possible surgery. I won't use the T word because as we all know it is list management. The real point of my post is that I don't think he will risk losing the first pick on JV and more importantly either will Gubby or SOS. I don't think GC would do it to us either as we have cleared Warnock to them and there may be some more this year from our Queensland contingent. The certainty of all this is of course to do a deal for an U17 player which will give us JV at 2nd round. All based on us not moving up the ladder of course.
  2. Well it would to Lucas. Hung , drawn and quartered for not being a senior footballer.
  3. Congrats on a great AFL career with the Dees Brad. You retire on your terms, still playing seniors, in the top 10 games for the club, a Captain and a loyal clubman. You have a lot to be proud of. Now get to work on those sons for us, we need good footballers.
  4. There is really very little benefit for a club with first or second pick to risk that pick for a player below that level. It would really have to be vindictiveness. Sheedy might be, but Gubby Allen and Silvagni have no reason to be and neither does GC. It might be different if Daniher was our father/son selection.
  5. I presume you mean Barry and not Lucas.
  6. Get the panadol ready, because the mustache will stay another year.
  7. Or we could do an Eddie and quietly mention to GWS and GC that if they plan to nominate JV just to stuff us up, we will make it our life's ambition to wreck their clubs.
  8. Don't yell, but Jamar for Boak anyone?
  9. If he ate with me he'd be as fat as a pig.
  10. Every time I watch Port play ... he isn't.
  11. Fair question. I don't think Couch is up to AFL standard and Casey don't think Lawrence is up to Casey 1sts standard. Magner is the more difficult one. Personally I see him as short and slow, sort of like another player who won our B & F last year. Jones has been our standout mid this year. Beamer has had a poor year. Gysberts is taller but not quick. We need class and speed in our midfield and I don't see that in Magner. If Beamer is traded I could see him getting another year but if Beamer stays I think he is just more of what we already have. Even the mustache has played as a tagger and he is quicker, taller, a better kick and has more strings to his bow than Magner. I think Magner has exceeded expectations but we need better in our midfield and his rookie spot may be needed to keep looking. I think Neeld will really want to turn over players and the rookie list is a less dangerous way of doing it. That is how I see it.
  12. Coach Guy McKenna confirmed on Monday at least five players would be missing the battle with the Giants after sustaining injuries in Sunday's 42-point loss against Melbourne. Dion Prestia (hamstring), Michael Rischitelli (knee), Karmichael Hunt (shoulder), Zac Smith (ankle) and Luke Russell (shoulder) will all be unavailable. David Swallow (knee) and Sam Day (foot) are also in huge doubt. If GWS beat GC next week, then the loser of the GWS v Dees match the following week, assuming Saints beat us, would be 2nd last and get pick 2 in the draft and in our case pick 3 as well. Is it possible we could t. t. t. t. t. ....... or just lose. I can't even get the word out. It would put us in a massive position to trade with GWS for both under 17's for say pick 2 or 3 plus a player or two like Moloney and one of Bate/Petterd/Spencer/J. MacDonald/Bail etc. It would also just about guarantee JV as a 2nd round pick.
  13. Sorry OD I misread your post. You might be right with Cook even though Neeld has said he is not ready. If Watts doesn't come back he may get a game against GWS.
  14. I could see Spencer being traded, Moloney as well. If Dogs still want Bate, he will go there. I think Jetta will go and probably MacDonald too. Jurrah is safe if trial goes ok. I think that Davis is safe as is Fitzpatrick. Bail's disposal worries me and if it worries Neeld he is gone and with Petterd and maybe Spencer could be a good trade back to their home state Queensland, home of the GC Suns or a bit less North to GWS.. If Bartram's medical procedure fails he is a retirement and Bennell is shaky. I think Dunn is versatile and will stay another year. Green may get another year due to his form and the Junior episode. I would delist rookies Magner, Couch and Lawrence.
  15. Agree. Not only were we playing the bottom side, they had 5 bad injuries. Prestia subbed off in 1st quarter and then their ruckman Smith went down in 2nd. Hunt was hurt in first and carried an arm all game and Rischitelli was on one leg at full forward. Also courtesy of a Tapscott bump, they lost another player later with a stuffed shoulder who ended up in hospital. The bottom side, totally undermanned and they nearly outscored us in the last 3 quarters. Anyone who says that is a great effort is easily pleased. Yes it was good to win, but let's put it in perspective. The good thing for us was that we started well and had far from our best side in.
  16. I am absolutely convinced that if GWS or GC bid picks 1 or 2 for JV they will get him. If they are convinced of that as well, they won't bid. We will act with integrity and do what's right for our members and that is not being blackmailed or bluffed into paying too much for a player.
  17. Agree. Aside from the first quarter we were ordinary. We were playing the bottom side who had 5 blokes injured and we couldn't really put them away. They attacked constantly and if Matera had got his 4 shots, all easy and Lynch had kicked a couple of his we would have been level. Glad to win, but not a great win in terms of our opposition and the way we played.
  18. Do you? Sylvia and pick 13 for Caddy. Did you see Caddy play today? 11 possies and not much better last few games. If we had any chance to get him I would offer some of our Queensland players, Spencer, Petterd and Bail. They have no rucks other than Smith and could be desperate for someone of Spencer's size.
  19. Think you mean Jordie Mac. Cook also played yesterday.
  20. Great article in today's Age by Tim Lane. He says the selling of home games is a form of tanking even though it is based on a need for money. Says the AFL allows this to happen and together with their draft incentives has created this. Refers to teams resting players for finals as also tanking. Therefore every club has tanked if these are the definitions. RR, I agree with you. Get good players and win some games and your culture can change quickly to a winning one.
  21. I know we shouldn't criticize umpires, but I just watched the last quarter of Saints and Pies and Saints were umpired out of it. Disgraceful really. Pies get 2 soft frees for first goal and then several holding the ball ones, while Kosi smacked in mouth while marking is ignored and then O'Brien given free for arm chop as Saint running into goal to tie up game. Replay showed no touch at all and even commentators admit it was a shocker. Saints couldn't buy a free and Pies got them for nothing. Would love to hear Watters presser. 25 frees to 14 in Pies favour as per usual.
