Might be more to the point to ask the players why their disposal and ball handling turned to crap. 50 of the first 57 points scored by the Eagles came from turnovers. Our disposal and handling of the ball was as bad as I have ever seen it. If you can't pass the ball or grab it, you lose and lose badly.

Casey Demons v Box Hill Hawks - VFL Grand Final
Redleg replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
I can probably give you 2 causes of the loss, Garlett and the Captain. For the second final in a row the Captain went possessionless or close enough to it . -
That is where the poor ball use is shown up.
-
Agree. Surely in the warmup or at some stage the players or runner or whoever tests the surface at pace and turning etc. If not we are not as professional as we should be.
-
To be serious for a moment we have good recruiters who identify needs and try to cover them. We have concentrated on hard at it contested ball winners for a while and we have seen the results. To me the needs are another mature Ruckman who is ready to play and that is Preuss if we get him and then pace with skill and maybe a Garlett type. To me they are our priorities and we will see how the FD see it in the next couple of months by their trade targets and drafting.

Same places other sides do.

I think we had more inside 50’s than Eagles if my memory is correct. Therefore we had chances. Ball use killed us. Lack of pace to get clear killed us. Nerves killed us. Leaders killed us.Luck also killed us with ball bouncing their way on nearly every occasion.

Did we ever find out free kick stats? -
I said we need more and if he is not up to it so be it, but we need more. We had no spread Saturday and were killed because we couldn’t move the ball with skill.
-
Yes he was a kooky beatnik who would greet his mate with “ like hi Dobie”.

I will put you all out of your misery, the G stood for Walter.

Incorrect try again.

Tracc is either scared to death to take a set shot for goal or dumb. His mark 40 out straight in front, then pass to left footed Tyson on the left boundary was stupidity at its best. Tyson is also a worse shot than him. What was he thinking or wasn’t he?

No he didn’t. Which game were you watching? He was terrible. -
So disappointed to have to agree with you, but he was just terrible today. Has completely lost all ability.

Well the Coach played a bloke who didn’t get one possession in the Prelim and guess what, he only managed one today. Worst part is he is the Captain. We can say goodbye to Garlett, Bugg, Smith, McKenna, Pedo, Filipovic and King. Vince has retired and I hate to say it, as I thought he could be anything, but Hunt must be on really shaky ground. He was terrible. We need to bring quite a few new players to improve our list. -

Our Captain has done nothing again. He could fix that by telling the umpire the free kick stats. -
I’ve shown you he has kicked 60 more goals in the same games as Kennedy and you dismiss it as just a stat. Then you say stats could show Watts was decent. Unbelievable.
-
People need to quote posters correctly. I said he COULD become our Kennedy not that he is.

Josh Kennedy 90 goals in his first 5 years in the AFL in 67 games. Jesse averaged 50% more disposals in those games as well. I think you are the one that needs to feel really embarrassed. Also I was rubbishing the get rid of Hogan thread. I never said he would have made a difference yesterday, so don't change the meaning of my post. I said he could be our Josh Kennedy and people want to get rid of him. He is on better track than Josh was at the same stage.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
Redleg replied to What's topic in Melbourne Demons
Why are we talking about May, he is apparently off to the Pies. -
He wouldn't have been the difference clearly, but he played better yesterday than our 2 key forwards and for that matter our 2 key backs and he wasn't even on the ground.
