WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
Redleg replied to Tinks's topic in Melbourne Demons
No "injury" is. But, If he comes to us, along with Langdon and Tomlinson, it will help arrest a possible membership decline. It will create some excitement among the fans and the players, which is good. It will be a club positive. What will temper that during the year, will be if he can't overcome the injuries. But as a few have said, what will we lose, very little. TBH I am as excited about him coming to us as I was with Guy Walker as I expected nothing. Actually that is what we got. This bloke however can have an impact as I said above though. -
I don’t.

The beauty with pick 3 now that 1 & 2 are done, is we can say and do whatever we want. We take whoever we want and we can play with the minds of other clubs on 8 which is more up in the air. I think most clubs would know who we take at 3, as do most draft predictions. I can’t recall a draft where the first 3 picks at least, weren’t known by the industry. After the first few you can get a surprise or 2 that can throw selections around a bit, but that usually doesn’t happen until a bit later. in other words we play mind games over pick 8 and see where it lands.

? funny. Good to get a laugh in these times.
-
I wonder if he is saying Jackson to force Freo to deal on 8 with a promise not to take Jackson.
-
Martin looking very unlikely. Bennell subject to assessment. I would imagine a medical and attitude evaluation.
-
Great to see Picket and I unanimous on a player. I think we need as much high end talent as we can get, so to split a high pick and dilute our chances and get 2 moderate players is a loss. Of course you could possibly get two good players for lower picks, but the chances are less and you lose this kid. If we can guarantee 2 good kids added every year, we would be doing very well.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
Redleg replied to Tinks's topic in Melbourne Demons
In the case of the one who played for us, did you say average talent or average character? -
Of that group you would think GWS might miss if he prefers to stay in Victoria and the Tigers also, as they would be harder to get a game with. I would think the Roos and us would lead the group and unless money or contract was vastly different, the MCG might help us, as a venue to play at.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL

You have to look at Bennell as the last pick in the draft, on a low contract and who you would ordinarily expect to play some games with Casey and then be delisted. Anything better than that is a win. -

Why did GWS give up on the bloke who played with us and then Patton? -

Wrong injury Ernie, he had calf problems. -
That is why I put in the 3rd line of my post. Don't kid yourself, some clubs do things to appease their fans.

Jack Watts says hi! Even though he left before Jesse.

Can't be that boring, we are both discussing them.

Not really, we have been spoken about all year and DL has never been busier.
-
The guys on the AFL site, including Lloyd and Callum Twomey, said if we get him he, will at that point be the best kick in the side. This to me is starting to resemble the Kelly/Salem-Tyson situation. Do you let go of the star, for an extra player/pick? Given that experience, if we want Young, then bloody take him.
-
Or just not blabbing. We have 6 spots to fill and are clearly not drafting 6, so we are likely talking to someone.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - LUKE JACKSON
Redleg replied to Lord Nev's topic in Melbourne Demons
That is why if you wanted Kemp you would talk to Freo and tell them if they took Kemp and you knew who they wanted, say Jackson, you would take him. Then without swapping picks you could nearly get your player. The danger for Kemp does appear to be the Swans, though they would be passing a couple of ready to go, good players, if they took him. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - LUKE JACKSON
Redleg replied to Lord Nev's topic in Melbourne Demons
TBH, again only from limited highlights and comments, I could live with Young and Jackson, if Kemp is gone, as Young just looks super impressive and Jackson appears to have enough skill to play a key forward role, while he learns the trade from Max. That would give us the 3rd key forward and adding Joel Smith to the mid size forwards we cover that area. Also, if Bradtke kicks on, he could become another key forward option in time. That means rookies and last pick or two, look for a small forward or two. I wonder if that is where you could use a Bennell, with great hands, obvious talent and afl experience, playing forward, he would have less running to do and could be a viable cheap option as a small forward. -
The thing that might help us is clubs might be reluctant to use their first pick on a boy who can't play for a year. Club fans may be more impatient and want to see their boys playing at some level right away. For us, he would be our 2nd pick after 3, which allows a bit more understanding from the fans. Then again, a strong club wouldn't worry about what the fans think and the Swans are a strong club. Interesting times. If there are no pick swaps in the top 8 it could go something like 3 Young 4 Serong 5 Flanders 6 Green 7 Jackson 8 Kemp On the above Ash is still there to help Kemp get to our pick. As I said Interesting times.
