  1. Then who matches up against Minson? Martin is a good match IMO, and Jamar with Hudson. Bode should be omitted for .................. (you fill in the blank). McDonald's still listed with a groin.
  2. He's only remembered for one (great) mark. I remember years ago, when Skilton was coach, the mark of the year was of some sandy headed kid standing on the head of someone in a Melbourne practice game. Skilton was asked where he was now? Answer: back playing suburban footy. delist. Mark it down now. (Unless Freo want him. )
  3. Doubt it. 2 games in the sandy 1's, for 2 and 4 goals; and kicked for goal like a dog apparently. Before that 2? uneventful games in the sandy 2's.
  4. Y_M will, no doubt, be up for the Bruce hat.
  5. Agreed, Bruce is over paid, but who isn't at the MFC. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we HAVE TO pay a minimum of the Salary Cap of about 92%(?). Neita is retired, as will be Yze and Holland (and White?) at least, and our share of TJ's salary for 08 becomes available in 09. So we have plenty of room under the SC next year, even at 92%. So who do we pay it to? Bruce is doing very well, as I'm sure is Green, and probably McLean. We have a space under the SC to pay a marquee player. God I'd love to have Pavlich, but I think he'll end up with a club nearer to challenging for a premiership - Adelaide? So. who's left? A gun, who will be a marquee player in 1/2/3 years, and is under 25. (And we wouldn't have to backend his contract.) Thoughts?
  6. Yep, your right. But lets not let the facts get in the road, eh?
  7. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
  8. Reviews like this are bordering on worthless - you have to look very carefully between the lines. <_< No player is going to get a slagging. Consider White - Lovell says he "dominated the ruck". and had plenty of touches ... linking up (read sitting on the wing?); a number of posters here have mentioned he was beaten in the 1st half, but had a better 2nd half. Touches can't be hidden tho', so pleasing for Grimes, Maric & Cheney.
  9. I didn't mean to infer that Bailey is a dim-wit; far from it. But I was trying to show that statements can be misjudged/misinterpreted. Especially simple statements.
  10. Here I am 45. In my view, the jury is still out on Bailey (and his coaching staff) - will be for a few years I guess. In my view, he has 2 roles: 1. As Coach - (some factors) - a. develop strategies to win games b. train the players to implement those strategies c. train players so as to develop their skills, to take them forward d. impart confidence in the players 2. As a Leader - in football dept and club For most of this year, I would say the coaching team has failed in 1b and 1d, with no evidence of 1a or 1c. I also consider Bailey was failing as a Leader - witness the leadership group at the start of the year (can't comment on his role around the club in general). But, I think this last week has been a real turning point, and not just because the team won. 1. A new look team 2. Signs of coaching - When we got in front, we flooded the lions forward line. Good coaching. Remember when we got in front of the bullies last year? after a run of goals. We didn't flood; the bullies got a quick goal; the bullies flooded 3. Signs of growing player confidence - witness C Johnson 4. Leadership from staff/Bailey - The player leadership group has been drastically changed (not by a player vote) I think the signs are really good. Regarding Bailey's staying calm etc in the media. I am cautious about this, and what it means. Call me a cynic if you like. (Folks might remember the film "Being There" in which a dim-witted gardener's simple mutterings were mistaken for pearls of wisdom and he, the gardener (Peter Sellers) became president.)
  11. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
  12. Missed seeing the game live (listened & watched a bit on tv), so what are folks thoughts on Valenti, Martin & Bode. It seemed to me: 1. Valenti got a fair bit of it, but didn't use it great 2. Martin got a lot of touches early 3. Bode - out of his league Happy to be corrected.
  13. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
  14. Crap. Both these players played in premiership teams, that's all. Headland has shown his worth (sic) since going to Freo (he was the 4th midfielder, and a receiver, in the great BL unit); Banfield played as part of a great mid-field at WC. Actually I didn't know Headland was a no. 1 pick. Just shows up the bolony of tanking for a single pick. Imagine losing all year just to get a loser like Headland!
  15. Y_M, all Sylvia has done is better his 'Trade Bait' price; instead of 4th/5th round, now maybe 3rd/4th. If he keeps this up, we might get a 1st/2nd round pick for him. To stay at MFC, he needs to play well consistently, AND convince the footy dept he is part of their plans. The latter won't be easy given his record.
  16. No sure about White out, but very pleased Valenti is in. This selection is certainly up there for something different. Lions will be buggered for a game plan in terms of match ups! Pleased!
  17. Couldn't disagree more. Being competitive/winning is everything. A winning/competitive culture is what will make this club rise again.
  18. out: Bode, in: Valenti
  19. Lots of folks need to take a chill pill. Fact is, if a player is contracted and doesn't want to move, he doesn't have to - witness Ferguson. Actually, I wish we still had him!
  20. Don't, don't count on Rivers. sadly.
  21. Rules were a lot different then (Ablett Snr). And he didn't play many games for the Dawks. You didn't get drafted as such, but players were "signed" (can't think of the right word). And remember, how many premierships did the Dawks win without Ablett, and how many did the cats NOT win!
  22. Could be some sort of a record low score tho.
  23. No its not small, surface bigger than MCG if I remember right - used to play it years ago. Excellent surface, but has centre wicket area. I have already vented my spleen re Valenti's omission.
  24. Nothing to do with MFC. Delete the topic.
