I agree with these sentiments. One thing though, I am guessing that Valenti might have been told he would get 2 games. In an interview immediately after Hawks game (video on MFC web site), he speaks well, but repeatedly mentions "if I get a game next week" or something similar. Just after a game, I wondered whether he already knew his fate this week. I do think he matches up with the St's mid-field pretty well though. And if Baker does his mongrel tag role, he might have been a good tag-the-tagger. I'm disappointed, but maybe bigger plans are afoot - trying out/rotating players etc. And folks should remember, Valenti was not promoted in a hurry, even when a spot on the list was available. He was promoted only once it was known Nietz was retiring. So Valenti wasn't featuring that high amongst the coaching staff. Looks as if he is becoming a supporter favourite - now he needs to convince coaches/footy dept.

I think Valenti would have matched up well to St mid-field. I don't see Bode or Johnson doing that. Not happy with Valenti's omission. :angry:

Nonsense. I really rate the St's mid field and forwards (and rucks). Their backs are their weakness. They deserve to be favourites, and I expect them to win. Sad about Valenti - I hope/expect he will get more chances.

Agree here. Pavlich is the one marquee player I'd really go for.

Carltank are the best option for Kerr. They might give up a 1st rnd pick for him; they already have heaps of youth, and Kerr would be with his great mate again. Given he is still under contract, our chances are not great unless we give up a low 1st round pick. I rate him, but ..................

Not so. Carroll plays tough. Carroll copped ridicule because he played the tough stuff at the start of the game, then the team got absolutely flogged. And it doesn't help that he looks like a mass murderer. If the MFC had got flogged on Sunday, Jones and Molone would have looked as stupid as Carroll usually has. Get a grip.

Based on stats (12 touches, 6 tackles), he did OK from limited ground time. But I didn't see the game. Seems to be an undercurrent that he might get dropped this week. Thoughts?

Delisted by MFC last year, ignored in PSD by other clubs. He mght have been real handy this year - wasn't very old either.

Put Green in the goal square, leading out. I don't rate the St's backline; their mid-field and forwards are the risk to us. Anyway, one off, Green would kick a bag.

But, their VFL side IS their VFL side - a true reserves, not an affiliate. They play who they like where they like - they are not dictated to by an affiliate, as we are, to some extent, by Sandy. Ideally, we'd have Cheney, Zomer et all playing in the VFL, and we'd be trying out a few Full forwards, which we can't do because of Sautner.

thing is, there isn't a correlation between being a powerhouse ($'s and members), and being successful. Hawthorn were v successful in 80's & 90's and nearly folded. Same for North at times in that period. Also, Brisbane won 3 flags in a row, and made a loss each year (think that's right). On the other hand, Richmond and Carltank and the filth have huge supporter/membership base, but have won bugger all since the 80's. And then there's Freo - $'s to burn, huge membership, yet they're a basket case.

Great effort too. 2 goals. Clearly dominant. If he keeps it up, they'll let him play with Sandy a few more times.
