  1. And he had 10 contested possessions.
  2. Tough training does not make tough players. We simply have none of those.
  3. WTF. Where you hear this?
  4. I'm pretty sure there was a bit of carry-on about Yze's latest (and finishing) contract - a fair bit was incentive based, so we might not have been shelling out as many $'s there as folks think this yr. They might just have got that one right.
  5. What rot. What about Bate, Maric, Davey, Miller, Valenti etc. And Johnson drops down, as does Jamar. Midfielder? - doesn't have the motor Avoids the contested ball, except on his terms No defensive pressure. He needs to be like a brad johnson, or paul chapman - small forwards that contest always, apply defensive pressure and have some sort of a motor. To put his name on the same page is laughable. I would look to trade him (do both him and MFC a favour) but not at any cost. Pick 20-30 would do me (hell, even 30-40), or a player type we want. One thing I can tell you, I wouldn't enjoy playing on the same team as him.
  6. Currently $12 at sportsbet
  7. Anyone know anything of the split in the 80's? The concept looks good, and would certainly ensure the clubs future. But, why the earlier split. What's different now?
  8. Think he's contracted til Oct 2010.
  9. He'd better change this over the last 4 games. No defensive pressure + no desire for the contest = out the door
  10. Not necessarily. I remember from my playing days it often seemed harder to get a kick in the 2's than the 1's. I think its to do with predictability of the game and skill level of the players. Having said that though, his main game is clearances and CP's, which should be less affected. Guess that's why he is in the 2's at the moment. (That's presuming the list of best players is accurate.)
  11. Apparently Davey's a good chance for the cats. That probably leaves Frawley/Carroll/Petterd for Garland. At least. Wona had a shocker, so maybe Wona out for Jones. Don't know they'll rush Jones back though; several weeks with Sandy will help him heaps, not just 1.
  12. I'm sad for him, but we got the better of the deal, even including the $200k we contributed to his pay this year. [censored] me how smug Matthews was about us paying it - implied we were stupid. But we have a 1st round pick, who looks good, and the Lions are stuck with TJ for 2 more years paying all the big $'s.
  13. Yep, trashed the ball too much in the first 3 qrts. Heavens, if only he could kick; he's got a great motor.
  14. He will need to make a decent fist of the last 4 games to be retained.
  15. No one hates him. He has been at the club for 4? years and just 14 games. And many of us, including me, don't think he "has" it. That said, basic pay (I hope) for a coupla years is probably neither here nor there.
  16. Yes, I agree about the talent. BUT, he had that awful injury last year, and only 1 game in the 1's this year. Club has to be sensible. Bit of a dilemma really.
  17. Is he out of contract this year?
  18. This quote is from an interview on afl.com.au
  19. I know this sounds far fetched, but could Newton still be traded. Maybe they know a team who is looking at him in the PSD, so we could get an early pick for him.
  20. Great idea. And multi-use facility!
  21. I think the point is that a ground owned or run by one of the clubs won't be considered. It will need to be under 3rd party control (just as dome and MCG are). So unless someone can afford to buy one of the suburban grounds, and given land costs, I doubt it, or you go well out of CBD. I would have thought Casey Fields would be ideal - run by some entity that includes Casey Council - and the public transport stuff is sorted. I'd bet that the AFL is already talking with Vic Gov't (and Casey council). Any ideas for somewhere else?
  22. 2 and a bit hours. Say 2hr 30min.
  23. That could well be the real problem with a Tas team. Southerners won't travel north, northerners (& north-west) won't travel south. Oaklands was about where the passport got stamped - looks like little has changed since my 10 years on the island.
  24. Article on Bailey at afl.com.au - link here. Relevant bit below: Player of the future Nathan Jones was a surprise omission for some this week, but Bailey said there was nothing sinister in the 20-year-old’s demotion to the VFL. “Nathan is a very driven young man, he puts an enormous amount of pressure on himself to play well, and I think for a young player that’s a good thing, but it’s nothing more than a little bit of confidence and a little bit of form,” he said. “Hopefully he’ll go back to Sandy (Sandringham) and get a little bit of that; I’d rather him go back at this stage rather than his form fall further which would be even harder for him to come back from. “But he’s a very driven young man, he’s an exciting player and he’s had a little hiccup at the moment, but he’ll work his way through that.”
