POSTGAME: Rd 02 vs Brisbane
Putting aside the farce towards the end, and our brief flurry after it, tonight we were totally dominated in every aspect of the game, including those that we pride ourselves on. How much of that was related to the injury to our skip? We will never know, but I’d say a fair bit. We looked completely ‘shell shocked’! I’m totally gutted by the result, but on a more positive note, if the Bears can turn it around from last week to this, then we can do the same next week. Do Dees!

PODCAST: Rd 01 vs Western Bulldogs
It was an outstanding win vs the Bulldogs, and in hindsight, made even sweeter by the absence of 4 of our best players. In Goodies post match presser he said that all 4 are likely to be available for our encounter with the Lions. Assuming they all prove their fitness, who comes in, and who goes out, and why? Match fitness will obviously be an important determining factor, and imo, it would be foolhardy to bring in more than one or two ‘underdone’ players for the Brisbane game.

Your Top 5 Demons Players of All Time
In my long lifetime, and after (perhaps) one too many glasses of Shiraz: 1. Robbie (RIP) - for those who didn’t see him play, you (sadly) missed something very, very special! He was pure magic on the field, and revered by all footy fans, regardless of their allegiances. Deserves a ‘stand alone’ chapter in the history books of our sport. It’s an absolute travesty that he didn’t win a Charlie! 2. RDB - inspirational player and leader of our great Club, in (perhaps) the most dominant era of any VFL / AFL team. Shared the title of ‘Mr Football’ with the great Ted Whitten. Say no more! 3. Clarrie - only part way through an outstanding career that we’ve all witnessed first hand. The envy of every other team in the AFL …….. the type of player who makes a good team great! No need to elaborate further, I’m sure! 4. Shwarta - There have been plenty of great CHFs in my time (Hart, Walls, Brereton & Carey to mention a few) but none of them could hold a candle to ‘the Ox’ pre multiple knee recos. He could have been anything! 5. Jimmy (RIP) - an icon of our Club and our game, based on where he came from, what he achieved on the field, and who he was off the field (RIP).

Welcome to Demonland Josh Schache
IIRC, when Weid (who was contacted at the time) sought to be traded out for more opportunities, we agreed to let him go, subject to getting a ‘like for like’ replacement. We recruited Schache as that replacement, and imo he adds more to our squad, and has more ‘senior level upside’, than Weid. Only time will tell, I guess.

PODCAST: Brodie Grundy Interview
…….. and aligned to Moe’s question, how does Brodie rate the ‘culture’ at Melbourne. No need to ask him how it compares with C’wood (I think we probably know the answer to that!) but I’d every interested to hear his views on our culture, and any insights as to how he was ‘inducted’ to the Melbourne ‘way’.

PODCAST: Practice Match vs Richmond
As an ‘interstater’ I could only watch the game on TV. While there were some standout players (for me they were Tracc, Max, Maysie, Nibbler, Hunter and Bowser) the aspects that impressed me most were how well our boys seemed to be ’on the same page’; how ‘even’ we appeared across the field; and how fit we seemed to be compared to the Tigs. Are these reasonable observations(?) and if so, how well does it place us for what is a very tough draw in the early part of the season proper? IMO, with the draw we have, it would be a great indicator of how far we can go in 2023 (barring significant injuries), if we are 3 zip after 3 games.
