Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 14
Deeoldfart replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Back to back wins for the first time in god knows how long will be an important milestone in our development. If it comes against the Kangas, who have had the wood on us for an eternity, it would be even more significant. It will be a tough match in the trenches, but I'm backing the Dees to make a huge statement, and keep Essendon off the back page of Monday's Herald Sun. -
When I first met Mrs Deeoldfart nearly 50 years ago she was a rabid Bulldogs supporter. Being a smart girl, she soon realised that converting to my beloved Demons was an integral part of the 'package'. The transition took a little while, but she's now a Demon through and through, and we have established a flourishing lineage of proud Deeoldfart Demons. I long for the day when their 'unflagging' support is rewarded with a Flag, and I'll wager that you do too!

Playing four quarters like Sunday's last 90 seconds would attract a bit of attention I reckon.

Nev is a 'fair dinkum' footballer who would have slotted into defence equally as well in the 1950s, 1960s and 70s. He has no special 'gifts' as a footballer, but what he lacks in flair, he makes up for in guts and determination, and a fierce desire to make the most of every last little bit he has to offer. Huge testament to Nev and the coaching staff.

I totally agree dr. I've generally been ambivalent about North over the years, even though they seem to have had the wood on us for a long time ...... but Brad Scott's outspoken comments about Melbourne not deserving a priority pick in last year's draft really got up my nose, and I now hate him and his team with a passion. Sick it up 'em dees!!

Bloody hell mate. I'm struggling to get to the medicine cabinet!

After the Richmond win I enjoyed a classy bottle of red. Tonight I'm reaching for the viagra!

6. Dunn - Outstanding game. Going from strength to strength, to strength!. 5. N.Jones - Led from the front as usual, and must surely be heading for AA 4. Kent - Very good. Strong, hard, quick and added a new dimension to our forward line. 3. Jetta - Very dependable. Hard, courageous and very reliable with ball in hand. 2. Grimes - Similar to Jetta who just pipped him imo. 1. Watts - Work rate up and back was excellent, and his class showed through on a number of occasions. ,

I reckon we will win comfortably, but won't get the credit for it. It will be all about Essendon's 'outs' and the impact the drugs saga had on their players.

'Drain' Russell: "mark of the year". Often for the third time in the match.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 12

I agree Jaded, but it's really encouraging that we now have sufficient depth on our list to be able to drop a defender who, as you say, has been defensively good all year. It's fantastic that for the first time in years we can now afford to let players with obvious flaws go back to Casey to work on addressing them (a la Jodie McKenzie). There's no point letting them get 'comfortable' in our best 22.. -
I'm not sure what you are saying od. Is it that none of the 'four' have not improved under Roos? or just some of the 'four'? Of the 'four' I reckon Dunn improved considerably in 2013, but has taken his game to a new level under Roos. The others have come from pretty much 'nowhere' imo.
-
I totally agree Bobby. It's actually an interesting question: Jetta, Pedersen, Dunn or Bail for most improved under Roosy? Fair to say that they are all former 'fringe' players who are now thriving. Roos is an absolute master at this.
-
'Doc' Roet would have been an automatic selection at CHB in that team, so I'm guessing that he was injured for that match. There's an interesting story / myth about Doc. who earned his nickname because he was studying medicine while playing for the Dees. The story goes that his opponent had been concussed the previous week, and Doc got into his head early about the dangers of playing football the week after suffering concussion. The obvious conclusion is that his opponent had a very poor game. Not only was Doc's sledging effective, but 50 years on it seems that his medical advice was also spot on. Nice of Doc to be so thoughtful towards his opponent!

I hate Essendon with a passion, but for the good of the game, I hate this whole stinking episode even more. -
I dunno about this one, but Paul Roos does!
-
6. N. Jones 5. Dunn 4. Vince 3. Petersen 2. Jetta 1. Watts
-
I agree mono. I expected that maybe they would alternate in and out of the team, playing a similar role, for a combined total of perhaps a dozen games for the year (if lucky!). As it is they are keeping a string of more experienced players out of the team. The future is looking brighter and brighter.

Spence has a strong work ethic and we've seen a heap of improvement over his time at the Club. He still has a way to go, but he carried our rucks competently early in the year when our other ruckmen were injured. Further, I'm not sure we could have traded anyone better without giving up more than we will be prepared to part with. Well worth holding onto imo, and he wouldn't be commanding a huge pay packet.
-
"now I just want to play finals". Great stuff Dunny. Thanks for the timely decision .......... now its time to enjoy the good times!
-
Exactly ..... and the absence of Maxwell should work in our favour.
-
I'll leave it to Roosy and our selected 22 to continue on their established path of continuous improvement, but I'll also assume that the question posed in the header refers to the collective 'we'. If 'we' all get along to the 'G' on Monday arvo, and match the noise made by the 'filth' supporters, I reckon we can help lift our boys over the line. I'll be going home hoarse, but be saving just enough during the game to belt out a few healthy renditions of the Grand Old Flag after the siren.

Just viewed today's media conference on DeeTV : Media conference: Chris Dawes He had them 'eating out of his hand'.

Agree Chippy. Nothing can completely overcome the pain for '58, but beating them any time is a nice analgesic.
