  1. I think I might (sort of qualify) on all of those grounds but: 1/ I look for my glasses around the house, and my wife finds them on my head. 2/ I almost always start sentences, but forget how they are supposed to end. 3/ I'm no longer grey, balding or horizontally challenged, but I probably was 10 or 15 years ago. 4/ & 5/ I think I just worked out where all the hair went! 6/ I wonder how young people can afford hearing aids. Mine cost a bloody fortune, and they are much smaller than the ones the youngsters use. 7. I feel the cold much more these days, but I've learned that a cup of hot coco and a hot water bottle work well for me. 8/ I get up three times a night to water the garden, but keep wondering why the shrubs two doors down the road are thriving while mine still struggle in parched earth. 9/ I still enjoy the taste of alcohol, but more to the point, I need my nightly brandy to help me sleep. 10/ I still put on the red and blue cardi for my Sunday morning walk to the paper shop, which closed 5 years ago Bring on the footy for Christ's sake!
  2. I agree, and I feel honoured to officially be one.
  3. This week's update sounds promising: David Misson bye week update
  4. Not this year old dee. It will be the first time Mrs Oldfart and I have missed Round 1 for more years than I care to remember. However, we will be there for Round 2, as guests of the Club ...... part of the Ron Barassi Bequest Society. I'll also be catching up with and old Dee mate, who I lost contact with when we moved to this godforsaken town 45 years ago. He tracked me down through Facebook of all things, and I'm chomping at the bit!
  5. Just got my brand new training top (they look fabulous even on an old fart like me) and I feel rejuvenated, just like I believe our beloved Dees will be in 2014. I'm not expecting miracles, but I feel certain that my optimism will prove warranted over the course of the year!
  6. It's a cruel world ....... a good man taken way too early. Football is so insignificant in the greater scheme of things! RIP Dean.
  7. Searching for (small) positives: confidence here (DEMONLAND) and on the field will be badly bruised by this outing, but at least we weren’t playing for four points; I wonder if our boys got ahead of themselves on the back of a couple of encouraging performances. If that’s the case, coming back to earth with a thud in a practice match won’t do any harm at all (except maybe for Grimes and Frawley); we still have time to work on some of the deficiencies on display in today’s practice game (obviously there were a heap of them); and no doubt Paul Roos will have some important data stored away for future reference.
  8. Disappointing, but sh-t happens at all footy clubs. However, the really good teams make the most of adversity, and if we aspire to be one of the best, this setback won't come near spelling the end of our re-birth as a competitive team in 2014 (which is all that most of us hope for). I have enough faith in Roosy and his game plan to get us through the early rounds in reasonable shape, and have us really firing when we get a few key forwards back on the park.
  9. I bet Des Healey wishes he wasn't quite so quick.
  10. Close to the money I reckon. I'd put McKenzie ahead of Viney at this stage, but that could change if Viney puts in a couple of strong ones over the next two weeks (we already know what we will get from McKenzie). I'd currently have Terlich with his nose in front of Clisby for the second HBF, but again the next couple of weeks will be decisive.
  11. I'm not sure that I 'see' them signing an extension together, but I sure as hell dream about it!
  12. Don't worry od, they have 'The Ron Barassi Bequest Society' for the likes of you and me (but I'm expecting #13 and 14 at least, before they put me in a red & blue pine box).
  13. I agree with all of that 'bub. I said in another thread that he reminds me of our own Brett Lovett, in that he is an 'unfashionable' footballer who can be relied upon to do a great job playing within his limits. He will be picked to play a role, and indications so far are that he will play it to a tee. Roosy would love him for that!
  14. I've been keeping an eye on scores from Canberra. Well done to all involved. I'm starting to get used to this winning feeling!
  15. That was a 173 point turn-around from not so long ago, not just on the scoreboard but in attitude and the way we played. The road ahead will have lots of twists and turns, but we now know where we are going, and have a basic road map to follow. The two NAB Challenge games have exceeded my expectations by a long way.
  16. Almost perfect. The only 'side dish' I would ask for to top it all off, is a win against the odds. Go Demons, do it for jane02 and all the rest of us!
  17. Those last couple if sentences say it all S-T. I'd love to be feeling ecstatic at 10:00 tonight!
  18. So long as he doesn't 'Nikon' to the footy field prematurely and re-injure himself.
  19. Of course, but I'd rather beat an under strength Saints side than get beaten by a full strength one! Don't worry Demonsterative, we'll have plenty of opportunities to test ourselves against good opposition during the course of the year
  20. It was reported (speculated?) on ABC radio (Canberra) this morning that without Dank's direct evidence, the ASADA Report is weakened to such an extent that nothing will come of it. The term 'whitewash' was used.
  21. Sure, this is a short clip made specifically for our consumption, but if it typifies Roosy's normal modus operandi, then it's easy to see why he's held in such high regard as a people manager and player developer. I loved the constant encouragement of the players, the positive reinforcement for things well done, and the clear instructions set in context of what was unfolding on the field or what had happened moments earlier. And he did it from the field of play, not from outside the boundary while sucking on a coffee. Time will tell, but to me it's hard not to see the players thriving in this environment.
  22. ........ or a pensioner pledging a few dollars per win to assist the Club he/she has supported for 50 years.
