Denham is still waiting for Mitch Clark to make his debut for Freo.

always thought PJ would have been good as a tall soccer striker heading the ball into the net, never seemed to actually put his arms up in the air when trying to mark the pill...

How much of the game could Martin have played in the ruck given, like Spencer, he is on the way back from a long injury lay off? Sellar would have had to ruck for at least half the game. Spencer may not be a future champ but your criticisms to me are very harsh considering he is had played what, 4 or 5 games with Casey?, on his way back from a year out with a knee reco. Ordinarily both Martin and Spencer would have had more games with Casey to build match fitness and touch.

"Don't go to the snow, come see Scully" - Sheedy
demoniac replied to H_T's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sheedy looks, ahem, how can one put it politely, more match fit than he did when he left the Bombers. Not quite as ruddy. The man needed a long break. -
He is being played as a defensive forward/inside forward. His job is to engage a damaging defender AND to be a part of the setups for stop ball situations inside 50. Sometimes stats are not the be all and end all.

FRAC* David King said he'd be staggered if Jamar was at the Dees in 2013. Happy to help with 'staggering' of David King. * Failed Richmond Assistant Coach

Failed Richmond Assistant Coach David King will be staggered.

WINNER: Goose of the Year ... David King
demoniac replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
“Everyone is dancing around the issues - the whole football world - but I think someone just has to come out and say SEN and FoxFooty have made a massive error as media organisations, appointing failed Richmond Assistant Coach David King as a a footy expert,” Demoniac said on the Demonland forum.. -
Or Neeld and Misson inherited a playing group who were not at the same fitness levels as the players at the Pies and the Saints and who had no real grounding in modern game plan/structures. Fitness wise Misson has said that we were deficient with one marker being our players inferior 1km and 3km time trial times compared to the Pies and Saints. Misson also revealed in his interview with Peter Ryan on the club web site that we are doing more running in season compared to the Saints last year because we are still building our fitness to the elite level. This extra running will have an impact on our performance in games this season - we won't be as fresh as opponents - but its all about laying foundation for 2013 pre season which will hopefull allow us to run out in Rnd 1 2013 with a team as fit as their opponents. Its the same with our tactics. Players are learning the decision making required to implement the modern structures afte playing the flood under Bailey for 4 years. Thats not something players can master overnight.
-
If it was Schwab and Connolly who, with a seriously ill Jimmy the nominal Footy Director, had to tell the Board not to extend Bailey's contract then they did what had to be done.
-
I could not disagree more. They had to rebuild the commercial operations of the club first in order to pay for a competitive footy department spend. They can't just click their fingers and get a pot of gold.
-
Schwab and the board had to rebuild the commercial operations of the club to have the money to fund the rebuild of the foot dept. 2012 is the first season since the mid 70s that we have had the combo of elite facilities and a competitive footy spend. Only Nth and Port have won flags without that combo since then. I could not give a flying you know what about Michael Sheehan's comments. Did he read the Peter Ryan interview with David Misson? Doubt it. Explains the legacy issues inherited by the new footy department. Misson even revealed in that interview that we are doing more running in season that the Saints did last year because we are still building to elite fitness. That will undoubtedly impact on the freshness of our players in games this season but ensure better foundations for the 2013 pre season which should hopefully see us bridge the fitness gap that Neeld, Misson and co inherited.
-
I think Cam Mooney has summed us up well on SEN. Bailey played an attacking game plan not resilient enough to stand up in finals. Neeld has to go back to basics and instill a defensive game plan and ethos and an understanding of what it means to be an elite athlete. Financially we've been a basket case since the 70s and its only now that our finances have improved that we have elite facilities and a competitive footy dept spend. I am confident for instance that Misson will have bridged the fitness gap that he inherited by Round 1 of 2013. As he said in the interview on the club site we are doing more running in season than the Saints last year because we are still building our fitness whilst they were at the elite level and were just maintaining the level. This will obviously impact on our perfomance in games this year but it will build the players base for the 2013 pre season.

Mooney is on the money for mine.

Failed Richmond Assistant Coach David King is that you? One of the more bizarre opening posts in the history of Demonland. And that is saying something!

Because he is our General Manager of Player Development who is is fulfilling the role of National Recruiting Manager for 2012 because the person sought for that role was made by the Pies to serve out the last year of the contract as the Pies 2IC of recruiting. Pretty simple really.
-
How many teams have won flags in the last 30 years with combo of crap facilties and a low footy department spend? North x 2 and Port x 1? This is Year One for us in terms of having that combo of good facilities and an increased footy dept spend. I have good reports that CS was both on the Grassy Knoll and at Cheviot Beach. He is the Beelzebub amongst us. And yes my tongue is firmly in my cheek.
-
There is no reason that Todd Viney is not currently functioning as a 'Proper Recruiting Manager' in his role as our Interim National Recruiting Manager. I don't see there been much of skill set difference between his role as head of development and recruiting. It was in all the papers that Jason Taylor was prevented by the Pies from leaving and is being made to serve out the final year of his contract before joining the Dees to head recruitment post the 2012 draft. Viney looked very impressive in the Under 18s GF (as a bottom age player) and in the VFL v Geelong. We are committed to him and will take him and that may have to be with our first rounder if other clubs bid. I don't really see it as crazy at all. I call this thread a storm in a very small teacup.

Loving your work Jackie! I once saw CS on the Grassy Knoll and at Cheviot Beach!

"I could employ words and expressions such as 'pathetic', 'disgusting', 'unacceptable' and 'mind-boggling', yet, as stark as they are, they aren't really adequate. "There's a sense of hopelessness this time, and hopeless is as low as it can ever get. Demoniac's view on the Facile Football Media

What you've outlined (5 years) is pretty much the timeframe for an AFL player who comes into the system at 18 to develop into a fit, hardened, skillful professional footballer. Out problem is our development has always been poor. Thus Neeld and Misson face the legacy issues of sub elite fitness, tactical naivety and lack of a hardened defensice ethos. Just look at fitness. When Neeld, Misson and Craig arrived from Pies, Saints, Crows they realised our player's 1 and 3km time trial times were not in the same ballpark as the times they were used to seeing at their old clubs. So deficient were the times that Misson, renowned for his conditioning work at the Swans and the Saints, had to accept that it would take a couple of pre seasons to bridge the gap.

Sheedy need a long break after his Essendon stint. He does look alot more, um, er, match fit these days compared to his last years at Essendon. His nose is less, well, red. He would have been a very poor appointment at the end of the 07 season. End of story.

David King has a woeful coaching record in the AFL. I stand to be corrected but I believe his only coaching stint was as an assistant during the Wallace years at Richmond. Maybe if Wallace and King had demanded elite preparation and performance from the Tiges Hardwick would not have had to come in and clean up their mess.
