  1. Timely discussion because today’s Herald Sun discusses the needs of the various clubs and what it means in terms of the upcoming mid season draft. For Melbourne - “MELBOURNE THE Demons are tracking to have two of the last picks in the mid-season draft, however , there is every chance they don’t use both. Season-ending knee injuries to Marty Hore and Aaron Nietschke have opened up the list spots, despite the Demons listing Majak Daw and Deakyn Smith in the preseason . Coach Simon Goodwin’s game plan is based on chasing , tackling and harassing, with the Demons ranked No.1 in the AFL for pressure. Who is the best matureage pressure player who could walk into this premiership contender? Another small forward to sit in behind Kysaiah Pickett, Charlie Spargo and Alex Neal-Bullen would not be the worst result. Werribee wingman Kye Declase is a player they’ve followed this year.” They have a caption showing the main prospects (below)
  2. Three years on the list = Year 1 at Casey with Bayden Preuss occupying the ruck position for most of the season. Year 2 in a hub with zero matches other than some Mickey Mouse make up games. Year 3 (one round played) You call that 3 years? And what statistical information due you bring to the table about the changes in his playing weight over that time?
  3. Not sure that “handicapped” is the right word. You need to remember that in those days our #1 ruckman was Mark Jamar who made All-Australian in 2010 and Spencer and Gawn had to fight it out as the understudies. That’s how it should be at a football club. You should be given time to develop and grow. With big men, it’s only the very exceptional who make it at a very young age. Also, we shouldn’t confuse getting an odd game here and there with “making it”.
  4. Best result apart from the Demons would have to be Carlton losing at home by 1 point to Southport after leading all day.
  5. Bring a skateboard with you and you’ll be fine.
  6. Wow. That’s closer than the leader board at the Augusta National Golf Club.
  7. Interesting the reunion of former Demons experiment seems to have failed at Hawthorn with Chip and Scully gone and only Sam Frost around these days.
  8. The stories of Rod Owen and Robbie Muir before him warrant an investigation by St Kilda into its past culture and what the club can do to make good the sins of the past. If honours and awards have been given to people involved in the past, they can be revoked. An apology and a pledge to do better in the future would also be helpful.

I take this with a grain of salt after Channel 9 was hacked a few days ago.
  10. Great finish to the season. I was worried a few weeks ago that Carlton might overtake us because of their easy draw but justice has prevailed!!!
  11. Just a guess but I would say that Oskar will be the sub and Petty would be there as an emergency in case of an injury before the game.

The commentators kept banging on about the players being fatigued but I thought the umpires were the ones who struggled to keep up. They seemed to get worse in their decision making as the game wore on.
  13. Good luck to JJ. I guess that rules out Bowey making a debut as well?
  14. Oh look ... a practice match where one team had half a dozen or so of its AFL listed players and the other team had none and the game turned out to be a bit of a mismatch. Reminds me a bit of a game played at Marvel Stadium last week. Anyway, a premiership awaits Casey and it’s season over for Box Hill.
  15. I’m also not sure about it being a case of egos but rather a matter of the way the players’ roles have been laid out for the individual. It seems that this is where the coaches are attempting to tweak how the midfield will operate in 2021. One thing’s for sure, we won’t find out with the line up fronting the Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium this afternoon.
  16. Brown back in full training and moving well on the back of last year’s nightmare knee injury. He’s doing at least 2 full sessions a week and on track for the preseason. Melbourne looking to improve forward conversion after failing to captalise on the midfield stocks. Brown is expected to take pressure off young forwards in Weideman, Jackson and Pickett. Tom McDonald training well and could be used on a wing alternating with Luke Jackson and others such as Fritsch, Petracca, Spargo and Gawn can be dangerous around goal.

Junior Wiz at training. Looks very light.

Today’s Herald Sun quotes Farmer’s height and weight from the Peel Thunder website “at a tiny 169cm and 65kg.”
  19. I’m loathe to do this because of the pressure it puts the kid under but it’s out there and the comparisons will inevitably happen.
  20. How is that? Casey is another 20 minutes further away from town than Dingley.

As we can see from tonight, a future fourth round pick is worthless. If next year’s draft is as slow as this, we might not get some of those future picks until 2022!

Collingwood need to keep trading to get McInnes.

    A trade?

To summarise the latest changes - Geelong has added to its 2020 draft hand via a trade with the Gold Coast Suns, bringing in the Suns’ second-round selection 27 in exchange for a future third-round selection (tied to Melbourne). Brisbane has traded two Round 4 picks (66 and 68) to Collingwood in exchange for its Round 4 pick (70) and a future fourth-round

What was the deal? Dogs pay $600k p.a and Collingwood pays the balance. If not, get it sorted out by mediation and if it’s not done by the time of the draft, exclude both clubs from the draft. Simple.
