  1. That means Aaron Davey, Dan Nicholson and Josh Tynan come back but Jake Spencer?
  2. I think the situation highlighted the experience and the nous of the Eagles players who recognised the flow of the umpiring and played perfectly to them. Some clever ducking of the head into tackles and a couple of well executed dives didn't do them any harm. It was just one of those days for us and we were always going to be up against it but I thought the failure to award a free to Mitch Clark when he seemed to be interfered with in a marking duel set the scene for the first half. Didn't do much for our confidence.
  3. Thanks DR. The player is Michael Riseley who last week made the first intake for the 2012 AFL Victoria VFL Academy, a select group of young players who will take place in a special development programme with the VFL.
  4. I think this thread needs a name change so it's going to be "The New Sponsors?".
  5. It's already been discussed above.
  6. I thought I'd kick off Gameday early so we can actually talk about footy instead of the other stuff that's been in the media. I think it's fair to say there are a lot of pessimists around and probably rightly so after our last half last week and the sombre mood that seems to be pervading the club. On the other hand, we have 22 blokes out there. What if everyone of them played at his best? Here are the midfield match ups taken from today's Herald Sun:- Cox v Jamar Kerr v Trengove Shuey v Magner Priddis v Grimes Gaff v Watts Rosa v Jones Then there's the second ruck of: Naitanui v Martin And if you compare attacks v defence, we don't match up too badly. Yes, we need to be at our best and we don't have the star factor but I'm not buying into a 24 goal defeat either.
  7. I suspect that it's a case of Demetriou, with the aid of some friends in the media (who are now painting Mifsud as a saint), deflecting from the issue of an employee of the AFL divulging sensative material to a member of the media. Mifsud should have been sacked on the spot for this, failing which Demetriou should have immediately accepted his resignation. In any event, Mifsud's position is now that of a lame duck. He's untrustworthy in the context of receiving confidences from the people he's supposed to be serving. On the matter of what Aaron Davey is alleged to have said, I think it's interesting that Mifsud is dodging Davey. Meanwhile, Melbourne is still in the competition and the coaches and players have jobs to do so they quite properly are focusing on that and not the media hype.
  8. Simon Black is to have surgery after fracturing his hand last night. Expected to be out for 3-4 weeks. Pity we couldn't make that retrospective.
  9. 1+1+1=7
  10. This is nothing but a diversionary tactic by the powers that be at the club to deflect attention away from some of the bigger stories of the week. Nicholson has obviously been set up as a patsy and there is no way he can be guilty as charged. I checked through the MFC official injured list for the past month and his name was nowhere to be seen. Therefore, it follows that he could not possibly have been undergoing rehab and, as a consequence, is an innocent man.
  11. No big deal. All it really means is that he spent three years trying to pass Year 12 at an expensive public school. He's still going to earn more this year than his mates studying third year Science at Monash. After all, that$ what life's all about.
  12. Chris Connolly: "Challenges like these only work to make us stronger and more united, as we focus on high performance with high integrity."
  13. a nice touch from out Casey way ... Plan to honour Demon great
  14. Do you mean that if the players show that they're prepared to have a dip whether they win or lose then it won't say something about them and their club?
  15. I don't think he will be selected. His form doesn't warrant selection and it's clear now that he's distracted by other issues. He needs to find form at Casey and that's where I think he should be playing this weekend, if at all.
  16. It's more serious than that. If he doesn't go then nobody from any club, be they an official or player, would have any confidence in discussing any issue with an AFL official. Demtriou should set the example and if he doesn't want to accept Mifsud's resignation then he should resign himself. Right now, the AFL is a sewer.
  17. Whether or not the story Thomas told is true (and I believe that it's untrue) then Mifsud must get the sack. It is not appropriate for a delicate matter of this nature to be handled in this way by an official of the AFL The AFL's integrity depends on it taking swift and decisive action.
  18. Well here's my contribution to this thread which is all about amazing things like miracles happening in unusual circumstances - Crocodile Bites Off Part Of Elderly Man's Testicles In Zimbabwe; Jonah Maturure Survives Attack . Even in adversity of the worst kind, people can survive so why get upset about losing a football match or a pair of agates?
  19. Curious. No Dan Nicholson and no James Magner on the injured list. Nicholson missed last week but isn't on the injury list although at least on Internet poster has stated that he heard Nicholson say he was likely to miss another couple of games. He was seen a fortnight ago at Casey Field wearing a moonboot (& stating it was a precaution). Right? Magner limped off with what appeared to be an ankle injury. One of these blokes is in line for the this week's Mystery injury of the Week come Thursday night!
  20. From the Herald Sun Footy Barometer - Round 2
  21. Nothing against AC/DC but I must have been sitting close to the loud speakers at the MCG because the only thing I learned for the whole day was that it's A Long Way To The Top if You Wanna Rock 'N' Roll.
  22. It's Nick - a younger brother of Addam Maric, now with Richmond. He's a terrific young player but unfortunately not tall enough for the AFL at 165cm.
  23. I agree that we deserved most of what we've copped from the media after such a limp effort but I must say that some in the media must have agendas against the Melbourne Football Club. 1. I heard Leigh Matthews on radio discussing Jack Watts with a caller and Matthews bagged Watts mercilessly and unfairly. He was by no means anywhere near our worst player - in fact I had him in our best three or four. 2. The SEN commentators describing the Bulldogs as brave after losing their game today. I thought they were as pathetic as we were yesterday but their 49 point loss was apparently a brave defeat.
  24. I think there might be some changes for next week.
