  1. I think many of us already have the insight into those barriers but the problem is one of understanding life within the communities themselves. Of course, this is not meant to excuse violent acts against others nor am I suggesting that Liam is guilty of anything of the sort. I do feel however, that even if all of the facts come to light, we are going to have to stretch the boundaries of our understanding of a culture with which we're not familiar.
  2. Discussion on the subject has been reopened and topics merged. I urge extreme caution in what is said here given that the charges laid are serious and, unless withdrawn or varied will ultimately be heard in a court of law. Please remember that under the law a person is innocent until such time he or she is found to be guilty.
  3. Just a reminder that when Liam is up there, he is at home.
  4. Did they show the Dipper Incident?
  5. Liam Jurrah is just 23 years old but I understand that he is regarded as a bit of a leader in his community. That he has to deal with difficult situations in that community might well be a burden for one so young but from what I have seen and read about him, I think he will be able to handle it and come out a more mature and rounded person. His wrist won't be right until early April and I'm sure he'll look after himself physically whilst he's with his people at home so there's no need for the angst here.
  6. Yeah, they're very tight lipped out at Casey. You can't get much out of them. On the VFL Footy site, they're also only discussing Port and how they only lost because they had players out:- e.g. 1 e.g 2 It's true that it's practice match time and they don't mean much but the fact remains that over the weekend, Melbourne and its affiliate at Casey beat the two best performed clubs of last year from their respective competitions. It may not mean much in the long run but it's a fair start.
  7. Nostalgia time for Austin Wonaeamirri: Aussie's team, the Tiwi Bombers are into the NTFL grand final. He has played eight games this season coming back from that bad ankle injury and was in the goal kickers only twice during that time. Despite the fact that he has been struggling, has signed with NEAFL team NT Thunder this season. Hopefully, he can put in a good one in the grand final.
  8. My grandkids enjoyed it thoroughly but kept getting lost which was rather unfortunate as they missed having pictures taken with the players. Great to see a sea of red and blue.
  9. Michael Klinger who scored an unbeaten double century for South Australia yesterday.
  10. What's the story with Will Sheridan who took five wickets for Victoria in four overs before lunch today?
  11. Anyone watch the joke that passed for a game of AFL at Launceston yesterday?
  12. Prestia of GCS. Apparently, the entire family are big fans and actually, based on the way he's played in the Suns' two games to date, I would like to see the Demons make a big effort to do the right thing by the folks and the lad and organise a reunion.
  13. The last kick of every quarter was a shot at goal. Q1 - The Russian misses after the siren from about 30. Q2 - Maxwell goals after the siren from about the same distance. Q3 - Shaw scores a supergoal from 51 on the siren - awarded after a minute's deliberation. Q4 - Ball goals from 35 after the siren. Net result: Collingwood scores 21 points after the siren. We score 1. Where I'm going with this? Er ... not sure really.
  14. My wife saw this headline in the HUN and thought there had been a major aviation disaster - Wangaratta match called off after Essendon's plane fails to land.
  15. I watched the Hawthorn v GWS game this afternoon and it demonstrated to me that the Giants really need another year before they're going to be ready to play in this competition. I feel that the Suns were far better prepared because some of their young, immature kids had a season in the VFL whereas the Giants spent last year in the inferior standard NEAFL. On top of that, the lack of strong bodied talls really told on the team and I suspect that we are going to see some big hidings from this mob. Demon sightings - • Kyle Cheney - i always did like him and I think he's kicking on a bit at the Hawks although it was always going to be a tough ask for him to get a regular gig in such a strong team. • Cameron Bruce - solid effort but he's getting a bit long in the tooth. • Tom Scully - flashed in an out and played fairly much outside skirting the packs and disposal just fair. Better than his first up effort but still well below par and not doing enough for what he's being paid. • James McDonald - one of my favourites at MFC for over a decade but I'm sad to say that Dean Bailey's decision to delist him has now been vindicated.
  16. This is real schoolyard stuff. Claiming wins on forfeit or by toss of the coin. Neither side was likely to play off in the finals under this system so what's the big deal? If they want the points make them play a game at Etihad on Tuesday night and donate the proceeds to charity.
  17. This was only the second occasion we've played Collingwood in a pre season match and we've beaten them both times. Great effort from the boys even though the Pies will say they were nowhere near full strength. We look to have found a couple of hard nuts in Couch and Magner. Next week v Hawthorn should be a ripper.
  18. That sounds just about right to me. We have a list of 46 players with 15 injured and a couple being rested. Leaves nothing over for the Scorpions' game. I understand KC's point about the club losing "name" players who were major contributors in the past. However, one shouldn't disregard what happens when you have a tight young group who have trained together since November. Many of them are "no name" players from local teams and the Under 18s. Last year, the Casey Reserves did well to come from nowhere to win several games on end before the finals and they were unlucky not to go further in the finals. Many of those players will obviously push up for games this year. It's still early days but a win against the reigning premiers in any conditions is nothing to be sneezed at. Still would like to hear from anyone who went with some snippets from the game.
  19. How did Briefed go the other day, Redleg?
  20. Win for Casey in the wet. Casey Scorpions 6.5.41 def Borough 2.6.18. The Casey Development League team (fancy name for the reserves) also won today by 8.10.58 to Port Melbourne's 6.5.41.
  21. Clive Palmer, Is this drop kick doing a good job fcuking up the sport (if not the English language) in Australia?
  22. His worst career move was to leave Melbourne.
  23. I remember reading at one stage in the early days when we were courting Tom Scully a story about Phil Scully and Bastinac's father having been teammates at Dandenong in its latter VFA days. Now Phil is on the GWS payroll and his best mate's son is in the final year of his contract at North. Is Sydney town big enough for both fathers?
  24. Why do the Lions keep using him for target practice?
  25. I was locked up in meetings for most of the day. So what's this about Jack Grimes? A couple of weeks? Three? So these injuries give a few of the younger blokes an opportunity to show their wares. I want to see Lucas Cook, Troy Davis, Kelvin Lawrence, Tom McDonald and Josh Tynan. I think it's great that Tom Couch and James Magner will get more time in the midfield. That's what this series should be about. Sure it would be good to get games into the players but many of them are only 2/3 week injuries and many will still get a run before Round 1.
