Apparently he was known as Duke at the Lions. If he is half as good as the Duke we had in the 80s an 90s I'll be happy.
-
If we do draft him he will take three years to develop. The most promising of the talls in my opinion, but will take some time.
-
But would he beat Freak in a beep test?
-
Matty Warnock is 26 next year believe it or not!
-
Reckon Graeme Yeats is a bit stiff to miss out on a spot. Terrific back pocket.
-
Would have included the Duke Spalding, Alan Johnson and started Yze on a wing, but otherwise a good effort.
-
Please note West is not I repeat not our midfield coach. Mark Williams has the job and is assisted by West.

My favourite player over the past 20 years, just pipping the Wiz. In his prime rarely beaten, tough to a point of being kamikazie, Melbourne's best tackler and clean with both hand and foot. Cruelled by injury particularly in 2000 and I think 2002. Here's hoping there is some role for you in the club in the future.

I have been following this kid for a while. Has an incredible build but in my opinion is raw and lacks polish. With that said could be a champion but I prefer others including Dustin Martin from Castlemaine as well as Scully and Trengove.
-
Funny thing about recollections. I thought he whacked the current Planning Minister in a ruck duel!

I am making a case forward for DUSTIN MARTIN who plays for bendigo pioneers/ vic. country. gee this kid seems underated ?? have not seen much press or a case being made since trengove hit the scene ,but this kid is a gun. He has been single handedly holding his own tac side together. his stats have been as good as scully's. with more b.o.g.'s IN TAC CUP. d.martin has averaged 26.6 disposals in 10 games ;;played 11 but( 1 game injured ) he was no "1" best in 4 games , and 1 each of 2nd, 3rd & 4th best..out of 10 games playing for a bottom club ie; flower esq. in the u 18's champs.for vic.country he averaged 21.4 disposals with a ,ke. of 63% & de. 68%. (kicks effective= ke%; disp.effective= de% ) went inside 50 on 27 occasions ,he is a solid taller attacking onballer who kicks both feet. best on ground with 28 disposals against WA in grand final game at edihad..who were u18 champs. all australian;picked in centre..( how he did not get MVP for vic country bemuses to the extreme) garry rohan got mvp with 12 ave. disposals whereas "scully" played 6 games for his tac club.dandy. he averaged 26.3 disposals. was "1" best only once for dandy stingrays with one each of a 2nd ,4th & 6th best.. his stats for u18's champs were 25.4 ave disposals with a ke. 61% & de. 76%. and mvp for vic/metro.- ALL AUSTRALIAN. r/r OBVIOUS GUN AND NO 1. and lastly "TRENGOVE" u18's champs.had 22.8 disposals ave. with a ke.70% & a de. 72%. and MVP FOR SA.AND please note he has mentioned in interview how he would like to stay in his home state of SA. probable no 2 pick but !!!can u envisage him spending the next 10 years away from his home ??? is an obvious quality kid and any club and supporter would be rapt to have but is he a risk of doing a "thompson" ?? no problem with one D.MARTIN WANTING TO GO ANYWHERE BUT VICTORIA.. will be very interested on how he is rated by prendy and clubs generally.. just a bit of by play for anyone who was interested and unaware ..

While it is tempting I would still pick a mid and a key position with the first two picks and get another mid with pick 19 or whatever it is. Garland, when fit, can pinch hit forward or back depending on form/injuries etc.

6 Jones 5 Moloney 4 Johnson 3 Morton 2 Bruce 1 Davey

Flikker op, occo, you are a [censored] of the highest order.
-
Bit hard for Tom to get a game at the moment with Garland, Warnock, Rivers, Martin etc occupying the key defensive positions.
-
Could be an Isaac Weetra scenario mark II. Played for the sake of playing.
-
Regarding Newton, I remember a Sandy game a couple of years back where he told Paul Wheatley to go and get effed after Wheatley tried to tell him he should have done the team thing.
-
If it is truly 'best' to worst it should look like this: 1 Jared Rivers 2 Brock McLean 3 Brad Green 4 James McDonald 5 Matthew Whelan 6 Russell Robertson 7 Aaron Davey 8 Paul Johnson 9 Brad Miller 10 Paul Wheatley 11 brent Moloney 12 Colin Sylvia 14 nathan Jones 15 Matthew Bate 16 Matthew Warnock 17 Simon Buckley 18 Cale Morton 19 Clint Bartram 20 Austin Wonaemirri 21 Daniel Bell 22 Lynden Dunn 23 Mark Jamar 24 Simon Buckley 25 Michael Newton 26 Ricky Petterd 27 Addam Maric 28 Stefan Martin 29 Jack Grimes 30 James Frawley 31 Kyle Cheney 32 Tom McNamara 33 John Meesen Based on potential: 1 Jack Watts 2 Cale Morton 3 Jack Grimes 4 Col Sylvia 5 Brock McLean 6 Col Garland 7 Ricky Petterd 8 Tom McNamara 9 Addam Maric 10 Sam Blease 11 James Strauss 12 Jamie Bennell 13 matthew Bate 14 James Frawley 15 Stef Martin 16 Simon Buckley 17 Michael Newton 18 John Meeson 19 Austin Wonaemirri 20 Kyle Cheney

Schuey, as he is a Melbourne supporter!
-
Big Red, I think your backline is a bit tall! You gotta have Wheels there. He is hard, disposal excellent and rarely beaten one-on-one. Apart from that he can run and carry and leads by example. Other than that only three key defenders are necessary so one of Garland, Frawley, Martin or Rivers misses out. Other than that is looks good!

Can we stay in the AFL if 2009 is as bad as 2008?
dee-tox replied to Demon trucker's topic in Melbourne Demons
Correct! Under Ridley we had reserves of 3 or 4 million from memory. In my opinion it was Szondy and subsequent admins that sent us broke. -
Suggesting Whelan be delisted is among the stupidist ideas I've heard. He is tough, can tackle properly, is rarely beaten on-on-one, and hits targets when he gets rid of the pill. Shows more leadership in his left nut than Bruce ever will. Make him captain until Brock grows up.
