TRAINING: Monday 7th April 2025
Getting good at this soccer thing. Even put up a Soccer score on the weekend!

Chris from Camberwell Where are you?

Buying Waverley Park?
Is there any reason we couldn't move into Waverley Park as a temporary measure until we get Caufield? At least the club would be under one roof immediately but you don't need to consider it a permanent solution.

Chris from Camberwell Where are you?
Think he talks Dwayne Russel's ear off on a regular basis.

Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
Even if this is true isn't it still on the coaches for going down that path? Goodwin went back to the old contest/defence well in the second half of last year and admitted it was a mistake to do so. Personally I believe that we did need to change but find the gamestyle we've gone with incredibly strange. We still play incredibly defensively but just try to play keepings off with chip kicking rather than actually trying to attack and cause damage. Friday night was one of the more cowardly coaching performances I've seen. Reminded me of Brendan Bolton parking the bus towards the end of his time at Carlton.

Time to go Goody?
I alluded to this in the other thread but this is probably the better spot for it. These quotes really don't bode well for Goodwin "The purpose of the review was to identify opportunities for the AFL Football program to return to finals in 2025." "Our Playing List: The review identified strong confidence within the playing group and football staff that we can play finals next season. We have a very strong core group of players, but fast-tracking the development of our talented young players will be essential." "Members may have noted our commitment during the trade period to secure an additional top 10 selection ensuring we have two early picks in this year’s draft. This aligns with our decision to continue bringing in high-end young talent to complement our core group and return to AFL finals next year." "Game Style: The review emphasised the need to refine our method of play, focusing on all facets of the game— with the ball, without the ball and in the contest. During the pre-season, our coaches will work on evolving our game style to maximise the strengths of our playing group, aiming for a style that not only propels us back into the finals but withstands the pressures of finals football. As a competitive measure, specific details of our game style remain confidential. " "Our path forward relies on collective effort. With the reviews complete, our players and coaches are ready to put in the work needed to return to the finals in 2025 and we ask that they feel the support and energy from you, the Demon faithful, as we prepare for the 2025 season." melbournefc.com.auLetter from Brad Green | Football and Board UpdatesPresident Brad Green has written to members to share updates regarding both the AFL Football and Board reviews.

Time to go Goody?
So the sooner we sack him the better off we are next year basically as we'll have less money tied up in the soft cap?
-
New coach prospects
The club made very strong statements about expecting to return to finals after the review last year. So reckon Goodwin is in a bit of trouble on that alone.
-
Time to go Goody?
It really is just a matter of time now. Whenever the board can work up the courage to sack him. I expect it will probably be around the middle of the year probably a couple of weeks after we've appointed a new CEO.

POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Hodge has sounded like a Dees supporter the way he's expressed his frustration, I love it. He's one of the better commentators out there.
-
The standard of umpiring?
Umpiring definitely the biggest issue facing the Melbourne Football Club right now...

POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
We never ever looked like we could do enough to win. Playing behind the ball and chopping it around the backline, we never had players up the ground when we did break away. Goodwin is now coaching to mitigate the damage on the scoreboard. Not uncommon for coaches on their way to the sack.

Petracca & Oliver at the Dees in 2026?
The less said about that scumbag the better.

GAMEDAY: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Should have gone with the frosted tips and middle parts. Mullets weren't really a big thing in the late 90s

GAMEDAY: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Smalls need to be pushing higher up the ground to create pressure and leave some space to run into. Also having three plus tall forwards is fairly useless even when you bomb it in because you just end up with that many guys competing in the air so the ball hits the deck anyway. Two talls can do that just fine.

TRAINING: Thursday 3rd April 2025
I'm with you. I just don't think any issues he's facing justifies playing a second ruck that is even more limited.
-
The Kalani White Thread
Yeah Kalani will be at the Dees then.
-
TRAINING: Thursday 3rd April 2025
If that's the case then Gawn should be rested until he's right to go. Structurally playing two rucks who can't play any other position is a waste of a spot in the team.

TRAINING: Thursday 3rd April 2025
Playing Tom Campbell would be so pointless. Have we learned nothing from the Grundy experiment?
-
The Kalani White Thread
Don't they also have a busload of academy picks to find room for this year too? Kalani might be low on their priorities.
-
The Oscar Allan Thread
That press conference was bizarre. Why does he need to apologise?
-
The Oscar Allan Thread
Was responding to the second part of your post, specifically about their list management but you knew that. They've already beaten one of last years grand finalists and two other finalists from last year including one of the flag favourites. They're going okay.

PREGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Lucky we don't have a CEO for them to protest against this time.

Time to go Goody?
I agree. With all the off-field nonsense that's gone on I think it shows this group could use a fresh start. It's probably not just Goodwin that needs to go but one of Oliver or Petracca too. Possibly both. There are so many players at the club who have been good citizens and worked hard only to watch the two biggest stars at the club make things all about them and despite their form these guys are still being prioritised above other players. I sympathise with what Petracca went through last year but I do feel he's probably damaged a lot of his relationships at the club, as has Oliver. One thing Goodwin has always struggled with is managing the egos of his players. Some clear air could completely revitalise the club as it did with Collingwood and GWS in recent times.
