Nah, appointing our own for the sake of it is silly. Board members and presidents should be supporters because it's a passion project for them but employees should just be the best person for the job.

Time to go Goody?
Now it's all about the third quarter against a battling Essendon side in a game we got comfortably beaten in. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Time to go Goody?
Feels like we're going to be hearing about the third quarter for years.

New coach prospects
I'm definitely interested in Bruce. Came to the Lions as a midfield coach after they'd bungled their third finals series in a row, said in an interview when he joined his major focus would be their running patterns. That year they make a prelim from 6th, the following year the make the Grand Final, then last year they win the flag. This year they are top of the ladder, undefeated after 5 games. I remember watching the lions during 2023 thinking about how easily they seemd to be able to move the ball, always seemed to have players in space. Hope we interview him.

Time to go Goody?
Even if we win 2-3 of our next games it's only going to buy Goodwin a month or two. Our draw is brutal after we play West Coast. It could get really ugly.

What we have lost
Pretty sure he had a baby last year and his partner wanted to be closer to family. Just reading between the lines it's not unlikely she was experiencing some PPD.

The Luke Beveridge Thread
Oliver was okay for about a month until he hurt his hand and he was awful for the rest of the year. Should have put him in for surgery but I reckon the club was afraid he would go off the rails again. Pretty poor situation for us to find ourselves in. Big picture, I think we've managed the egos of our stars horribly since the flag and it's coming back to bite us in a very big way. We tried to sweep things under the rug to keep the premiership side together rather than making some tough decisions and now it's all catching up with us.

The Luke Beveridge Thread
Sure but you still need to draw a line somewhere even for the greats. The main issue is that we basically gave Oliver the 'shape up or ship out speech' and he threw it back in our face over the pre-season and we still had him back in the side for the first game of the season. Every other player on the list who is doing the right thing is seeing that and thinking 'why bother?'

The Luke Beveridge Thread
What's your point? Oliver burned the club for half a season and a pre-season and was allowed to come back into the team as if nothing happened. Should standards only be enforced on players with an ordinary CV?

The Luke Beveridge Thread
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills with some of these comments. Beveridge is so different from Goodwin. He's pushed out several senior players that he didn't believe were up to snuff. Was happy for Daniel and Macrae to play VFL last year, he's a far more attacking and experimental coach than Goodwin. Turned Rory Lobb into one of the better defenders in the comp, and Ed Richards into a gun midfielder. Never found him to be rigid in his tactics at all. Doesn't suffer culture killers no matter how good they are. Keeping JUH out is the total opposite of how we handled Oliver. He certainly wouldn't be my first choice but he seems absolutely nothing like Goodwin as a coach.

Media Madness
I think it's a fair criticism of the administation since the flag. It's nice to have ambitions but they need to have some basis in reality. 50,000 average home attendance is big 4 club territory. Even Hawthorn didn't get that during their golden era. For us to achieve that it needs to be a generational project. Goes hand in glove with Roffey's chest beating about us being a big club a couple of years back, it's just not true and is so easy to be made to look foolish when you say stuff like that.

Media Madness
This is what she actually is quoted as saying. Don't really read it as her blaming the men's team at all. Feels bad for the Men's team and blames the admin for allowing the issues fester that overshadowed both teams.

Kozzy Homesick & Wants to Leave?
I'd take the Murphy variety.

The Next CEO
We built our whole program and preseason on this guy's advice. Not a great endorsement so far.

Time to go Goody?
I always hear this but I never feel it. Say what you will about Hinkley but when I watch Port I can tell Hinkley is a real players coach. His players love him and show it. Most of the times I see Goodwin interacting with players they just look bored.

Anyone know anything about Nicholson's work? He's the AFLCA CEO which has been a fairly toothless organisation for a while.

Letter from Brad Green
When a whole team performance is like that I fail to see how it doesn't fall on the coaches. Those issues arise because the players arent well drilled enough about what they should be doing with or without the ball. You can see it in our performances. The second guessing, the indecision, the poor running patterns. The players look shackled by a gameplan they don't understand.

Richmond a much better side than us.

At least we're consistent now.

Time to go Goody?
He doesn't have the fortitude to deal with pressure like this. He's an anxious personality and crumbles when the media apply the blowtorch. Blaming the players publicly was Neeld-esque. But a massive misstep from him too. If the players can't execute what he's asking of them then it's a coaching failure. Its a failure of the clubs program and a failure of communication. He's lost the players and he knows it.

Time to go Goody?
Reckon Cameron Bruce would be a good option. Was brought in by Brisbane to coach their midfield and especially fix up their running patterns back in 2022.

Time to go Goody?
Who cares? I don't get the concern about a caretaker coach at all. They're just there to hold the fort for a few months.

Time to go Goody?
Another coach who absolutely would have kept coaching his side had he been allowed to. Come on man.
