Oliver Trade Rumours

Trade Targets
Tom Morris 'journalism'... 🙄 Hey Adelaide, if Oliver was available would you look at him? "Yep, definitely" Hey Geelong, if Oliver was available would you look at him? "We have a lot of players on our radar" Hey Collingwood, if Oliver was available would you look at him? He's a quality player. We be silly not to" Hey Hawthorn, if Oliver was available would you look at him? "Definitely, he'd be a great fit" Hey Melbourne, are you looking at trading Oliver? "Absolutely not" Tom Morris... "I'm hearing there is noise around Oliver and clubs thinking he is gettable" Kane Cornes... "So Melbourne say they want to trade him?" Tom Morris... "No I didn't say that, but there is definitely interest" Morris is a [censored] grub. Every time anything re Oliver comes up, he's always the one pushing it. Most of the off-season [censored] can be tied back to Morris and his manufactured scoops. Why does he hate us so much? Is he still upset about Hogan calling him a leech and the fakest figure in the media?

POSTGAME: Rd 18 vs Essendon
A non-dominant ruckman is completely redundant in todays game. You don't bring a guy like Fullarton in just for the sake of it when he hasn't been much more than serviceable at VFL level. Because they know nothing about the developing talls they are talking about, other than their name isn't Petty.

Oscar Allan
This. Probably an unpopular opinion around here, but I don't think our forward stocks are that bad and see how it is getting to them as the glaring issue. If you copy/pasted guys like JVR, Fritsch, Kossie & Turner into the forward line of a team like Sydney with Heeney, Warner, Gulden and co. kicking it down their throat, they'd be looking like superstars. Probably the only FF we could bring in now who would make a difference with our current setup is Curnow, cause he has the ability to make something out of nothing, regardless of how good/bad the delivery to him is.

Food at the Footy
Bun Bun? That place is the best! Not sure how the roll survives all the way from Springvale station to the MCG though. Mine wouldn't get far beyond Westall station 😁

Food at the Footy
Also a non-buyer at the ground. Not that hard to survive three hours without having to get something to eat or drink and I can always take something in with me if needed. Last week we sat behind a couple who had two drinks each every quarter, plus food. In all, it would have cost them well over $200 on [censored] food and drinks in plastic cups. Cost of living crisis though they reckon........

Are we witnessing a re-build by stealth
You'd think, but the general theme here and on the various 'supporter' pages elsewhere clearly indicates that many have no clue at all. The level of anger and vitriol directed at our players and coaching staff for not producing 2021 (or even 2022/2023) type performances is beyond ridiculous, particularly given we now have no Brayshaw, Jackson, Grundy, Hibberd, Smith, Jordan, Harmes or Bedford, we have key injuries to Petracca & Lever and others such as Oliver, Petty & B.Brown are either seriously down on form or about to hang the boots up. So almost our entire premiership midfield, our second ruck/forward, our best defender and basically all the depth players we had to help cover situations such as right now have been replaced by kids, most of whom are in their first or second full seasons. Blind Freddy could see why we are struggling this season and will probably continue to do so until we get some more games and experience into our kids. But nope... let's blame Goodwin, or Stafford or suggest the club has serious cultural problems and say that anyone (like me) who thinks otherwise has no idea and is just "accepting mediocrity" /rant

Andy Moniz-Wakefield to Debut
We've been relatively young and inexperienced all season. People are only just starting to notice. All the following have been regulars except Tholstrup, Brown and I suppose Turner Tholstrup (18) Windsor (19) Brown (19) McVee (20) Bowey (21) Howes (21) JVR (21) Turner (22) Rivers (22) Pickett (23 - as of a couple of weeks ago) Then we have AMW who is 20, Woewodin (21) & Laurie (22). Chandler, Petty & Spargo are also only 24.

Hot Future Forwards
If we had Sydney's midfield and system going inside 50, we wouldn't need him. No one would be talking about how poor our forward line was and JVR, Fristch, Pickett and hell maybe even Petty would be looking like superstars. How many here would have said yes to Tom Lynch if he was available? Anyone see how ineffectual he was last night when Richmond were getting it in slow and high to him, just like we do? Our midfield is what needs all the attention.

Deep Midfield Issues
But I thought Stafford was the problem and all we needed was a decent tall forward?

Welcome to Demonland: Shane McAdam
Only club with a forward coach that was a non-forward when they played? Lets check... Adelaide - Scott Burns Brisbane - Murray Davis Carlton - Jordan Russell Collingwood - Justin Leppitsch Essendon - Dale Tapping Fremantle - Jaymie Graham Geelong - James Rahilly Gold Coast - Brad Miller GWS - Jeremy Laidler Hawthorn - Adrian Hickmott North Melbourne - Xavier Clarke Port Adelaide - Chad Cornes Richmond - Kane Lambert St Kilda - Robert Harvey Sydney - Jarrad McVeigh West Coast - Matthew Knights Western Bulldogs - Matt Spangher Not many names who can draw on their experience as forwards amongst that lot.

Welcome to Demonland: Luker Kentfield
Saad El Hawli (23yo) is the one that looked the most ready made and could potentially play this season. Half back/wing with speed to burn who has dominated in VFL. That said, I'm very happy to have Kentfield. My main disappointment with not getting El Hawli is that Essendon did, and they've already got a very handy player in Sam Durham from a previous mid-season draft.

Whispering in the Umpires Ears
I'm not sure why this is even a story, other than "Scoops" McLure and "Exclusive" McGuire thinking they are on to something new, which it isn't. I used to have one of those "AFL sports ears" devices years ago, though which you could hear the umpires talking to the players and also talking to each other. There was also a voice from someone else up in the stand talking to the umpires during breaks in play such as stoppages or centre bounces. Edit - I wish they still had those sports ears things as it was really interesting to listen to, particularly the interactions bewteen player and umpires that you couldnt hear on TV. That said, I most certainly did NOT enjoy hearing Razor Ray blowing his nose on to the ground or hoiking up whatever gunk he had in his throat before each centre bounce... 🤮

POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs Carlton
Special mention to the knuckle draggers hurling abuse, spitting and chucking rubbish at the umpires as they were walking off. Lucky they have that perspex thing to cover them or they would have copped it. Saw umpire 32 stop, glare at one of them and just shook his head in disgust before walking down under the stand. Absolute filthy animals. Anyone would have thought they had been screwed out of a win.

2024 Free Kick Differential
This is a bit of a myth. This season he has had 9 frees in 8 games. Of those, 7 of the 9 frees were in games vs North and Adelaide, and in the remaining six games there have been four games where he hasn't received a free at all. Edit - just went and checked last season. Including finals, he played 26 games and got 39 frees. Of those 39 frees, 11 were in two games vs the Filth (LOL) and another 11 were in three games vs North, Saints & West Coast. Remaining 21 games he had 17 frees in total, including nine games where he didn't get any at all, two of which were against us.
