What They Are Saying At Princes Park
DeelightfulPlay replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
On the Magnet Balls interview, Viney talked about the changing approach to tackling and the need to ensure juniors are being taught appropriately since at the end of the day, it's a split second decision and it's easy to revert to what you were taught growing up in terms of tackling. He doesn't quite call it a confusion but it's evident that behind the scenes there's a lot of discussion about tackling atm. (See @Rab D Nesbitt's thread for the interview) Doesn't help that MFC players, even at VFL level, are guaranteed to get done for tackling! No wonder the boys are so tentative... good observation from Redleg Edit: maybe this is why Kozzy was BOG in round 1 - early on he knew he would get done for that bump, and so the worst was likely to happen and it freed him up to take on the game without worrying? -
What They Are Saying At Princes Park

I thought we'd begun to move past the 'bomb it long' strategy. I even thought we might move beyond the 'boundaries at all costs' mantra. Until we learn to effectively use and exploit the corridor and lower the eyes (two things you'd think would be pretty basic - not easy, but basic) then we've got no chance. This one sounds just like us! -
I think it might have been the North game? From memory it was not a game where we needed the extra goals (compared to Suns or our more recent losses 🥲)

But if the effects of concussion make your decision making worse over time... then maybe it's not surprising he's making the bad decision to continue playing? (Edit: which is why the community needs to step in to support him, rather than allow it to continue and then act surprised and sad at the worst case scenario when it happens)

Highly recommend getting a DA membership! Everyone is so lovely, and if you're going to interstate games (or live interstate like me), it makes a difference to have a passionate crew to sit with.

Digby seems like a real sweetie, so sorry for your loss!

In the broadcast on Kayo they said it looked like a cramp and then showed footage of Hibbo's legs being massaged while he lay on the side and watched the end of the game. He didn't seem distressed, so hopefully nothing beyond age and hard work

Nothing gets the blood boiling like umpiring when at the ground (or elsewhere for that matter). I've begun sitting with the Demon Army recently and my barracking has become a lot more positive, bar booing the umpires The beauty of being interstate and having the house to oneself is that I can swear and rave at the TV all I like with no one being affected... then I log onto Demonland and try to be calm and rational and to hopefully learn something about the loss. Perfect Jekyll and Hyde scenario!

Yes, understand why people don't think loading is a magical explanation, but also don't know why sometimes people ignore the reality that professional sport has to involve loading at different periods of the season (especially a long season like AFL). The Selwyn Griffiths interview was great! I think that our poor win record while playing as Narrm is linked to the timing of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round with the point in the season where we often are fatigued from draw / travel / and some form of loading to set up the second half of the season Between the potential effects of loading and our injuries, it's not entirely surprising that our execution of the game plan is lacking at the moment. Hope you're right that we're likely trying to be cherry ripe for the Collingwood game. In part out of self interest because I'm visiting Melbourne for the sole purpose of that game and am a bit faint hearted to lose to Collingwood again 😂

Our pre season games were blistering and had such a great attacking style, which we haven't seen much of in the past few weeks. Some of this is likely down to the disruptions caused by injury, but very disappointing regardless to have returned to the 2022 style...

I agree but I'm not sure we need to vituperate in order to vent It's one thing when analysing to say that it was not Harmes best day, a completely different thing to make him a whipping boy (Not saying you've said anything along those lines, more a general observation re Demonland post game thread today)

Whelp.

Salo has been a bright spot this game, and not just because he's freshly dyed his hair

Yep it's been shocking, far too close on the ball. Very annoying to try and understand the game

Hopefully no concussion for Sparrow 😰
