  1. Ultimately Weed needs to ruck relief but he's a couple of years off it.
  2. Agree on JKH, I hate the idea of bringing players in for 1 game and then dropping them unless they break team rules. JKH got better as the game progressed and 7 tackles shows intent.
  3. Agree. Fwd-Ruck was the option. Vardy and Darcy Cameron were available to us at the Hannan and Johnstone picks.
  4. Agree but desperate times ... OMac is a reasonable replacement in the backline and Hibberd is a steadier. Frost for example had absolutely no idea in the ruck.
  5. I'd ruck TMac - he has the bulk for it and can run all day, he's done it before. OMac into the backline with Frost and Hibberd. Pedersen for Smith and he and Watts can both spell TMac. Lewis for Melksham.
  6. You'd think so though with the angst here. I think Weid is the long term solution, but like I said I'm very happy to see a good slice of Smith and Hannan in the meantime, and they may be complementary. I know Pedersen is not the flag answer.
  7. People sweat the small things here. Hogan's dart, Pederson's non selection, Spencer rucking, Melksham playing, Vince, Hogan and Lewis suspensions, the list goes on Angus' form and health and his ability to deliver on his potential is the only thing that's really concerned me this year. Get well Gus and hit top form!
  8. I think selection has been very good. J.Smith, Hannan, T.Smith, ANB, JKH - these are progressive selections. I don't always agree, but I never will - IMO Bugg for Smith last week was a mistake for example. But generally I think we've selected well. I've got nothing against Pedersen but I recognise he's just a journeyman and depth, I'm in favour of trying Hannan and Smith ahead of him, some here see him as the next Carey such is the fervour for him. I think Melksham was ordinary last week and would prefer to see him out, but it's not fatal and I'm prepared to give him and the selection panel some more rope.
  9. AFAIK Weideman Bugg Kent Tyson Hannan named in the extended Casey squad - take your pick.
  10. Dusty play permanent forward and kick 7? No thanks.

  13. Some good deduction by @Dee-liciousin the Casey thread
  14. It seems reasonable that par for every player should be at least 1 tackle per quarter - how hard is it? That's 88 tackles minimum per game.
  15. That simply cannot be correct because the total number of tackles per game far exceeds the sum of stoppages and free kicks.
  16. Weed is a beautiful kick too. That's very important for a KPF.
  17. https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/what-is-the-definition-of-a-tackle.956406/ The AFL website provides definitions for statistics here (link now broken). Tackle When a player stops an opposition player with possession of the ball from getting his kick or handball away in a legal manner, or reduces the effectiveness of the opposition's disposal. The tackler's action must change the course of play.
  18. Do the crime, do the time. You must've been bad?
  19. Jack Watts specifically mentioned JKH on SEN this morning. Goodwin's pre-season player review of him in Heartbeat was glowing. Will not surprise to see him in.
  20. Frawley was key to the Hawks winning the 2015 flag - played an awesome finals series once they put him in as KPB - he earned his medal.
  21. Hitouts 18 v 83 Tackles 76 v 120 Kick to Handball 1.24 v 1.66 Free kicks 9 v 20 Marks 116 v 62 https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/2017-casey-lower-case-demons-thread.1157575/page-10#post-49760418
  22. I hope Hibberd is ready to play but I can understand if he isn't. He missed a year, had an interrupted preseason and has played what? Less than 2 full games?
  23. We're too short and too poor kicking in the backline - Hibberd is the ideal remedy for this. Vince and Melksham are too similar IMO and Vince is a far better competitor, Melksham needs to be a great kick to be of more value and he isn't - too many turnovers. I really like what Frost offers - size, incredible closing speed and aggression. We need Hibberd in for Melksham if they think he has enough game time under his belt. We're also too short in the forward line. I think T.Smith was removed far too hastily and just doesn't seem to be figuring in people's "ins". I wouldn't have replaced him with Bugg last week and would have him straight back in - he's a genuine marking option, a reliable kick despite missing an easy one against St.Kilda and a forward pressure demon who tackles to maim - 11 tackles for Casey. I'm a Hannan fan, he's clean and skillful in the air and on the ground and is a very nice kick - he just needs more game-time. I see people have him out too making us even shorter in the forward line! Weed is just being used as a decoy and that was crazy against Freo when we left Smith out. I'd replace Weid with Hogan and bring Smith back in. That gives us a lot more flexibility to use Hogan and Watts up the ground on occasion and still have some marking power deep. I thought Watts' contested mark to set us alight in the last was one of the best I've seen in years - sure people get higher vertically but he had enormous pack splitting forward motion and height - I haven't seen that in an MFC jumper since Schwarz regularly did it 5 times a week. I can't see the value in having ANB, Harmes and Bugg in the same 22 and ANB and Harmes currently offer considerably more IMO. Petracca provided a spark in the centre last week and I'd use him more in there, with Brayshaw out of form we need more midfield classy depth. There's little chance of it happening but I'd go: In: Hogan, T.Smith, Hibberd Out: Weid, Bugg, Melksham B: Jetta TMac Hibberd HB: Hunt Frost Vince C: Stretch Oliver Salem HF: Hannan Hogan Petracca F: Garlett T.Smith Watts R: Spencer Jones Viney I: Tyson Kent Harmes ANB
