When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?
old55 replied to praha's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think it's going to be MCG-like so very different from Subi which will be good. Altho maybe Subi suits our style too? It will be interesting to see how we go there. No KP this year which is very narrow. -
Wow that's about as close to unanimous as you can get.

I think it's not a coincidence - we've definitely played better footy at the narrower grounds - Etihad and Adelaide Oval. I think maybe our zone holds up better. -
There is no way this is not a bad outcome. Brayshaw off with head injury in the 1st 2 minutes!

Good for you VP!

Clayton Oliver has justifiably got great credit this year for his sensational play. I want to add Christian Petracca - what an incredible talent! He did some unbelievable things tonight.
-
I'd really like to congratulate the letter writer and the multitude of posters in this thread who agreed with him. Without their great insight and advice we could not have won tonight.

Try this for a better evening Steve: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/food-and-drink/features/the-ultimate-eurovision-drinking-game/

We're playing the top team, on the rebound, at their home, but I'm genuinely interested and excited about our prospects.

When Vince was suspended in R1 Tyson came in in R2 When Lewis was suspended in R2 then Vince came back in R3 Then Lewis came back in R5 and also Vince went into the midfield I think with Tyson, Lewis and Vince in there Jack is depth and even if one of them is out he still appears to be depth. Looks like 2 of them out and he will get a run

I'm not really sure what FP is these days? Garlett is the small who regularly plays deep. Petracca, Hannan and VDB (if he was fit) play medium-tall forwards but all are much more dynamic than Jack - I'd be surprised to see him in place of any of them. Then there's defensive small fwd like ANB or JKH - I guess that role is possible but they want Kent in there doing the defensive things AND providing offensive danger.
-
Trengove is behind Tyson for selection, that's the role he could be most effective in. He lacks the speed and/or agility for HF/HB. If Jones, Viney or Oliver get injured then it's hard to go with Tyson, Lewis and Trengove in the same team.
-
I'd like to see Stretch for Bugg too. I hope we persist with Hannan and Wagner. I think it's possible ANB could come straight back in if he was "rested" last week.

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-05-10/vfl-player-review-round-four Kent for JKH the obvious and maybe only change Plapp: Dean Kent: Dean had 18 possessions, seven tackles and kicked 1.1. It wasn’t the type of game where Kenty wasn’t able to show all of his strengths, because of the conditions. But the one pleasing thing out of Kenty’s game – that we were most pleased about – was his forward pressure. His ability to impact ground balls and put the opposition under pressure created opportunities for us. It’s been two weeks now that Kenty has played the way we want him to. He certainly puts his name up for AFL selection this week.

There's a big around the ground effect too. Hawthorn (and O'Brien) doesn't take those contested marks if Gawn is playing. We have another path down the line out of defence and we have another tall path in the forward line because they are not rucking so much.

The jumper is the same, the club history is the same, we supporters are the same, but as Goodwin has pointed out - this is a new group - Board, Admin, FD and almost all the players - writing their own history. We've had some a couple of frustrating losses by less than a kick, a couple of very brave efforts which would have been wins, a couple of decent wins and one great win. IMO this season cannot be characterised as the disaster many here are painting - we're having a good year. This group is not responsible for what happened in decades before - supporters will benefit if they can separate this in their mind. A flag is what matters to me. Learning is more important than winning right now, even though that is painful and difficult to accept. I'd prefer we win too, but the close losses we have had provide great learning opportunities - possibly greater than if they had been narrow wins. I think we're on track.
-
How does that compare with other clubs? Your theory is possible but you do not seem to have data to back it, it's jjust the vibe.
-
Where are we ranked in inside 50s against?
-
That's a mis-directional, you said "our defence leaks like a sieve" when it clearly doesn't at 10th for points against.
-
-
David Schwarz is not very smart and it shows - The Run Home with Mark Allen and Schwarz - unlistenable. Garry Lyon never stood up to be counted in coaching when he had the opportunity - no credibility.
-
Can you make up your mind?

Quoted because "like" is not enough

Quality post. There's a clear difference between 2010 and now and I'm very sorry for you if you cannot see that. I'm 100% behind the club and very confident of impending success. I think Simon Goodwin and the FD are doing a great job. I accept that there will be some mis-steps along the way but overall we're on track. The irony will be that "supporters" like the guy who wrote this letter and other wrist-slashers here will think that their expression of despair woke the club up and somehow contributed to our success. Go Demons!
