Farewell to Our First Pick in 2020
At the risk of my sanity I will attempt to put some sense into our drafting obligations instead of wild speculation. We must draft 3 players, we cannot currently upgrade a rookie as one of those. As it currently stands, because of the rules an upgraded rookie would cost us pick 8. We have to either split a pick or trade something/ someone in order to get a 3rd pick in the draft. If we trade say Stretch to a Club for say pick 88 then we could upgrade a rookie for that pick. We could parcel up 3 and 8 for a player but would have to get picks as well from somewhere. I believe the best course would be split 3 for two more first rounders and if that is what happens you can bet the deal was already done before the North Melb. deal. Now I could be wrong in my interpretation but for clarity I've included the rules below. At a National Draft Selection Meeting: (A) each Club shall exercise a minimum of 3 Draft selections (including selections forfeited under Rules 8.7, 10.11(a), 13.4(b), 14.4(d) and 15.8(b)); and (B) no Club may exercise more than 3 Draft selections if the consequence would be that it would exceed the number of Players which it is entitled to include on its Primary List pursuant to these Rules. Primary List A Club may apply to the AFL to transfer a Player or Players from its Rookie List onto its Primary List: (i) on the day when its Primary List is lodged with the AFL prior to the National Draft Selection Meeting under Rule 6.1 by lodging with the AFL the form prescribed in Schedule 1 as Form 33. In which case, the Club shall forfeit its last selection or, if more than one player, its last and each previous draft selection at the National AFL Draft Selection meeting.

Lystics AFL Podcast
Thanks to Dr Gonzo for pointing out this fabulous resource and particularly the intelligent insight to our 2019. I would encourage every person on this site to go have a listen to the Melbourne podcast in it's entirety, there will be an exam afterward. For those of us who are technically challenged, copy the thread title into any search engine eg; google and follow the link to the Lystics site. Anyone who fails to understand the above instructions and or decides they can't be bothered listening to the podcast please message me your name so I can add you to my ignore list.

Brendan McCartney on SEN
Damn, we should of retained that Lewis fellow. Perhaps his influence may live on. Seriously, was that what Lewis was like at Viney's age, I think not. Instant gratification to go with your instant criticism. Personally I think your view is less than 20/20

Farewell Sam Frost
Here is a challenge for you, please go back through the footage for the season and actually tally the fores and against. You might then be able to substantiate your assertions.

Welcome to Demonland - Alan Richardson
My read of the Macca situation was the Snr players were no longer listening/ agreeing with him which may have been influenced by Macca not having played at the highest level. Richardson automatically has an advantage in that area.

Free Kick Differential 2019
I'm not so much interested in the differential as I am in the result of For and Against frees. It would be great to see something based on a points system like Supercoach with points deducted or given for Frees resulting directly in goals or denying a goal, momentum killer frees would be an interesting stat also. The amount of times I see us awarded a free which halts our forward progress and allows the opposition to flood back does my head in. Would love to see the breakdown for individual umpires as well. That might confirm or deny long standing bias. Anyone know for certain that the Umps have stats recorded against them and what kind?

The Incremental Bang Theory...
I liked the fact Goodwin was trying something different with him when he tried the tennis ball training however it probably emphasized the short kick problems. Trac is a pretty good kick from outside 50 and I would love to see how he would go simply treating every kick like it was outside 50. I would have him blindfolded for a while and just move him around saying x is how far out you are. It might stop him incessantly flipping the ball around as well.

On SEN Today the following question was raised
Preuss's role would be to: A/ Mark the ball (funny but I see him doing this more and more) B/ Crush whomever is foolish enough to get in his way. Sorry, but I don't see too many playing at FF who are instrumental at locking the ball in. B/ above is the go, it should be a team rule that nobody jumps at a ball directed to Max or Preuss (floating in from the side excepted). So many times I see opposition players go 2 up against Max and Preuss and the opposition players end up sprawled on the ground. Much easier to defend the forward half when to oppo defenders are on their arze. Our players just need to recognize this more often.
