I really think we've done that. Tom Scully would have left wherever he was as long as he was getting more money. There was nothing we could have done to keep him, save for spending more money on him.

I love going to [injunction] too. It's my absolute favourite place. I really love the steamed [censored] and the fried [patent pending]. I hope I can go there again someday . . . if I can still remember how to get there.

Evidently they did make comments like that, and furthermore the fact that it is virtually his full pre-season should make his inability to train to his utmost even more likely.
-
I can't believe the sheer number of people who think it's somehow possible at this time of year to let your results do the talking. All we have to go on is what people have said and the few training sessions that have happened so far, and anyone hoping for more than that at this stage needs to go jump in a lake and leave the rest of us alone.

We should get David Costabile (aka Gale Boetticher) to sing that song in front of a series of space-related images. That would really get our message through.

I think it's terrible (and bordering on discrimination) that any male outside the medical field should be forced to shave if they don't want to. Facial hair is something that every single man on the planet over the age of about twelve has to deal with, and those who (for whatever reason) choose not to make themselves look like they haven't hit puberty shouldn't have to. The only time I ever cut my hair (facial or otherwise) is when it starts getting in the way. And that, IMO, is how it should be. I'm of the "Do What You Feel," Bart Simpson mould, in that regard. And when you add charity to the equation, then forcing someone to shave is even more ridiculous.

If you believe that after what we've all experienced this year, then you haven't learned anything.

Of course, but all I'm saying is we got the same compensation as a club who payed a leaving star that much money, but we didn't have to pay the money at all. I'm not arguing that I wouldn't have payed Ablett what he got at Geelong, knowing what he produced. Rather, I'm arguing that we got the same compensation as a champion's former club did, without having to suffer any blow to the hip-pocket. Obviously I would have rathered Scully had stayed if I could be sure he'd achieve the same as Ablett has, but since that's unlikely to happen with even the greatest players, I don't think we really came out any worse than Geelong.

Unfortunately, old Stynes is a year to year prospect these days. Here's to better times . . .

just scored an offical game day top for only $30!
Chook replied to EVIL DEE's topic in Melbourne Demons
Looks very nice, but what's all that white crap beneath the yoke? Shouldn't it be navy blue? Obviously an intentional buy, I guess. -
If you put it that way, Nuggets, then you have to add the 9 years of $500 000 to $1000000 dollars (per year) that we won't have to pay Scully that Geelong did have to pay Ablett. Rough figures I know, but the money saved has to be counted as a bonus in some way, right?

Anyone who thinks hurt feelings mean jack is obviously never going to be a part of a successful us-vs-them environment. I liken sport to war, in that you develop an absolute brotherhood against the world - a team of fighters under the command of a select few who they may not like, but who they damn well respect. Mark Neeld is making these Demons salty, so that when the time comes, they will be ready to eat their own guts and ask for seconds. Get on or get off.

As long as it's not a sinister fast-food boss giving us carte-blanche, then I'm happy.

With all that newly-acquired money, he probably has a very large house, right? So all he has to do is place any ordinary mirror a long way away from him and bingo!

I understand that you're unwilling to jump into bed with someone when you don't know how well they will perform, but someone who is really intent on sitting back and watching would be more discreet when doing so. Those who don't post at all (or rarely) on an issue are the ones who are really keen on observing without passing judgment. You can be content to watch without needing to inform everyone that you're doing so. But this is a footy forum, so if there's a place for that kind of thing anywhere, it's here.

Zing.

I'd prefer to be "up to my balls" with a new coach than waiting behind him with a cricket bat at the ready. There is no such thing as action in the pre-season and the closest thing to it is talk and good training, so I'm afraid that's what you're stuck with for now.
-
I always assumed your nickname was just the a result of an unfortunate encounter with a jellyfish of some kind.
-
He's certainly performing under his potential.

One day, a coach who just wants to get 'in' with his Club's supporters, will secretly give all his players food poisoning so that they spend every training session puking their guts out, to the everlasting joy of 90% of this forum. Throwing up is not something you should be aiming for when training. The stuff you regurgitate would serve you better inside your stomach than out.

While what you've said is true, I (and others) feel that Nathan Jones has improved in all the areas you've mentioned every year since he was drafted. Continual improvement is the key to success, IMO.
-
I for one won't be one of those who are surprised when Jonesy turns it on next year.
-
People are quite picky about which shoes they wear. I have a feeling there is no universal "shoe sponsor" which is the same for each player at the club.
-
It seems to be Jim Stynes opinion that that's what happened.

Just for the record, my dislike for the Aussie cricket team is unusual. I support Australia in every other sport - just not this one My support for the Dees is unwavering. However. my dislike for the Aussie yobbo team may change after years of good behaviour and some cracking comebacks. They are Australia, after all.
