Dont be play that game. We were a missed kick after the siren away from a QF in Adelaide against Port. And then who knows what could have happened? -

Yes Embarressing… -
It’s a very even year; we are not the team of the 2021 finals. Geelong is weaker, Syd is immature and injured, the Lions are bullies in the front half, Carlton are all stars, no shine. Tigers are made of paper, Saints are well organised but young and starless, Essendon are putting in effort but have NQRs all over, WB are as good and as bad as they have been the last 6 years, the Adelaide teams are wilful but can lost their way at times, Collingwood are great when a team they play doesn’t commit as much as they commit, and then there is Freo, GWS, GC, and the pub teams. Peak at the right times, win enough games to be top 4 and get into a prelim. Those are my expectations. My hopes are higher but those are my expectations.

Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition

Adelaide will make the eight. The expansion sides will determine whether we get ND4, ND5, or ND6. WCE, Haw, NM are not going to be anywhere other than bottom 3 and Tigers won’t stay below Freo. Pretty good place to be. Chance for ND4 I reckon. GC will win games at home and Darwin and GWS will pull off upsets when their stars shine. -
We shall see.

My main point is how close he is from contributing in a complimentary role in this great team. He will only get opportunities within that framework, and that will be hard for him.
-
No doubt, but deep in the forward line with no ‘line’ behind him means he is unlikely to have a big body anywhere other than beside him. It’s a much safer place for him.
-
I think that 3rd tall is one the higher priorities. They are just going to persist with Gawn forward. JVR will need help if he is to make it, and we just can’t rely on TMac’s form or BBB’s health. I have been burnt on players like Jefferson; he is “two years away from being two years away.” He is a twig. So I think it’s important. As is back up for Gawn/Grundy. And the future FB. And, god forbid, a replacement for Kozzie.
-
I meant in terms of another tall; Gawn is the option 20m out, Fritsch is the combo medium tall that works best in the wake of another leading tall, and JVR is new commodity that will be persevered with due to his competitiveness but he might ultimately dictate what that remaining tall needs to be. If JVR prefers to get up the lines and back, then we need a deeper leading option like a Brown leading from the square to the arc to allow Fritsch less attention. Or maybe JVR is more effective close to goals and we need to get someone to help get up to the logos and be a target. King is a great talent and you can make do with that but if they want to get another few years out of Gawn - it’s as a FP/back up ruck well away from the knees and fists of CHFs behind the footy.
-
If our next three years are Gawn, Fritsch, and JVR in the forward line. I am trying to think what we need to compliment that. To me, Brown is perfect for this year because he is a lead up tall who can cause a contest. Move it quick and he will kick a few. Georgiades is similar to that while not being that big body (9cms shorter than BBB). Keep an iron in the fire but our options open.
-
Gawn and Fritsch will be in control of the forward line. JVR can play his role and do his bit. Predominantly up the ground in my opinion.

A few people who were right about our misguided decision not to rest people last year in this thread
-
Because it is 5 days later and it is North? Good clubs would do this to us back in the day and we deserved it. When we rested no one last year when we played WCE and NM and we’re obviously hampered I questioned it and then we lost the next three games and have been 9 and 10 since that NM game.

The benefits of having ridiculously long contracts with your best players is that they are suddenly very invested in keeping talent around them. When there is no escape one tends to want to drag others into the doom. …. That went dark quickly. -
He can play on that. It builds… RESILIENCE
-
How about we set JVR up to succeed and pair him with a proven fwd, yeah? Brown started the season well and allows JVR to have the second or third defender. And can you show some respect to some great Demons because you’re losing yours.
