  1. To those hand wringers worried about the 'state of the club' - we can only move forward with the best we can do from now. The present. Roos is not going to just [censored] off and leave the club in 2017, he is a Demon now. He will have coached 66 games and hand balled the life consuming job of head coach to Goodwin. Roos may even move up the chain and give our board some appreciated help when it comes to football decisions and AFL industry lobbying. Jackson is doing a fine job from all reports and the board look to be quiet if not impressive, I will take quiet. What you are seeing is the club waking up from the malaise, what we don't need is for, once again, the grudges and anxieties that plague those that follow this club to manifest themselves under Roos and, more importantly, under Goodwin. Building a winning culture, comes before winning, winning will bring out all the dormant Demons, and only with all the desperate groups and factions behind the club will we be strong enough to thrive long term. Thinking of ways to strengthen that is helpful, looking at the avenues to tear it down is, seemingly, the Melbourne way...
  2. Nah. Good service isn't a cushion for disloyalty. And we are going to trade Jones because he hasn't re-signed, we have about a fortnight... It will not happen.
  3. That sounds sensible, Redleg. Although I will say that this time last year, Tyson wasn't being talked about, I don't know what Roos and Viney have on the stove...
  4. What was wrong with that? The bloke is thankful that being at the club and being a footy player has allowed himself to work through some, from what I have read, some pretty hefty issues. Good on him. Most footy players are that self-involved and arrogant - at least he is giving it with some eloquence.
  5. What a driven little f'er he will be if we pass on him because of 5 whole spots in the draft... And more condolences to the family of the kid we end up taking over him, he will have about a month to get going. This is probably why we were thinking about doing the trade with the Bulldogs for 6 and 21 for 2. We can pick up Stretch and the kid we won't get because Stretch went early...
  6. 'Remain in contention' - do you mean 'keep winning flags?' They would never give up something commensurate to ND3 while they are as good as they are for Frawley. They also wouldn't have ND3 would they? They don't need him, they are doing just fine without him, and if we asked for something akin to ND3, they would move on to the next bloke in their list, or they would pry him out through the draft at Pick 19.
  7. ND3 is worth more than Frawley. The top 5 picks in the draft is where good recruiters find stars of the game. Frawley is not a star of the game.
  8. Classless once again.
  9. I don't think Roos would agree. If we are looking for a premier mid - Pick 3 is a great deal more valuable than Frawley. Roos' exposition on the de-equalisation of the league was fairly and squarely aimed at the League offices charged with giving us our compensation.
  10. Well, I care what is good for you; you need to work on your grammar.
  11. Looks like he is a proud little fella. If we rate him 30th and are forced to take him Pick 22 or pass on him... What do you do? Shoot the hostage. That reference was from The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down...
  12. Wow. Can't believe he said that back then. Rock bottom... He didn't know what rock bottom was. He's about to find out.
  13. So you agree that Roos would have put a high priority on keeping a bloke who had played 15 of a possible 66 games?
  14. Well, he didn't play much footy in 2014. I was surprised he mentioned him at all really. Hasn't played much footy for him.
  15. Yeah! Wait...wait...you're serious. Oh. Ha!
  16. I don't really know the juniors that well, I am just alluding to the need to talk the kid down so we can pick him up for Pick 65...

Whatever you say buddy. He will be playing for your team next year. In the red and the blue, and you can sit there bitter and grumbling if you want to - it won't change a damn thing.
  18. One thing is for certain, the kid will be a hell of a lot better player the minute after the bidding process is over... Right now? I could take him or leave him. Meh.
  19. We should have put up a fight about the 'no draft assistance ruling' - at least that is backed up by a rule of the effing game. This is just happenstance piercing our O-ring - Clark is not worth what he was worth and clubs won't pay what we think they should, precisely because he can go into the draft. We can stand on principle if we want to - but we will be howling at the moon, and how we will be howling if Pick 33 turns into something for the Cats?
  20. As for this half-pregnant Free Agency - it was implemented poorly by the AFL (shock, horror) and requires tweaking with other regulations to make the competition more competitive. With that said - FA has been an interesting bag for us - we have lost Moloney and Rivers as they declined, gained Byrnes as he did the same and managed to turn Sylvia into Vince which is a massive win for the club. If Pick 3 and the extra money gets us something valuable - are we working well in the new paradigm?
  21. Ok, you're Roos and you don't have a functioning midfield - what is more value to you; 1. A CHB, pushed/pulled out of the backline on around 6% of the salary cap? OR 2. Pick 3 in the ND that can be used to acquire a ready made midfielder or a midfielder of the future? I think there is grey here - Dunn was a free agent but very wanted by the club, he stayed. I really question how highly Frawley was rated by Roos and co.
  22. Perhaps he means the offer has been sitting there unchanged for a while.
  23. When we got Byrnes we were trying to game the system because the AFL said that you will get one pick for net players lost and it would be the value of the sum of the players brought in and lost. Then the AFL changed the rules on the fly, again, and Byrnes and Moloney 'cancelled' each other out and Rivers got us Band 4... Not that I am bitter about how the AFL establish their rules or anything... Give me two weeks in charge. Two weeks. That's it.
  24. My dad knew him quite well being a journo and then involved at the club. Was well enough to have a beer with mates last week. I am too young to appreciate Robbie but I do appreciate his effect on my dad, which has been vast and lasting. He made an impression in my life.
