What is he worth? What do you think the cap is at in 2016? What do you think it will be in 2017 with the new TV deal?

Is the afl competition any more even since the draft & salary cap??
rpfc replied to Demonsone's topic in Melbourne Demons
4 would be not many... And they went from Geelong to Gold Coast, WCE to Carl, Haw to Syd, and Adelaide to Geelong - hardly the sort of 'rich taking from the poor' bleating that the OP espouses. And I don't mean Vince, Redden, Melksham, Howe, et al. I mean the superstars like above - they are the ones that alter clubs when they arrive and when they leave. We haven't had any history with these players. Hogan will be one. Brayshaw is looking like getting there, and we all hope Petracca might be one too... 'Drafting well' is the rider on the Equalisation-regulator known as the draft - and up till the last few years - we haven't. -
Give it a [censored] rest...

Ok, think about this - how many superstars change clubs? Not many, hey? So let's just say that clubs all draft like they know what the fark they are doing... Even competition yeah? Honestly... -
Fixed. I could blame it on my iPhone but that was all rpfc I'm afraid...

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
rpfc replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
Serves you people right for hating a bloke for no effing reason. -
Is Howe worth more than that?
-
The scenario that this would involve is where Adelaide does not agree with Geelong and they send him to the Nat Draft to be picked up by anyone. He puts a contract of his choosing on his head and the first team with some balls pick him up. Adelaide will take ND9 if Geelong offers nothing else. They won't cut off their nose to spite their face. But, yes, the FA/Trade infrastructure of the AFL is not weighted in favour of clubs losing their best players.

I just shuddered...

Well, that is an interesting way of deflecting how your attitude changes toward underperforming members of the list and their value. So Roos is to blame as to why he didn't play, he was a hypocrite in not playing him, and Jordie has paid the price for Roos' error... If we are going to treat players, and their worth, equally - Jordie did not forward the cause of the club onfield at all in 2015 and finished in the last handful in the end of season awards. It was a failed, waste of a season. No-one deserves to be treated like a walking contract, and I wouldn't do the same for Jordie, so just have some self-reflection about what you say about players you simply don't like and how it would be related to those you do like...
-
Yeah, all he needs to do is nominate only for the PSD and get overlooked by 5 clubs.
-
Yeah, I have nothing for you, BB. People have said enough about his year and I saw no need to continue it after someone had the gall to praise his attitude and love of the club. If we are on this self-righteous, club-first, financially concerned rant: maybe Jordie McKenzie can give his pay packet to charity because he didn't play at all at AFL level. Few hundred thousand wasted...
-
PSD is still there waiting to be relevant.
-
Oh, what a lovely sentiment... He was genuinely excited for the group over the next few years - always good when someone who has seen great talent tells you that he can see it at the Dees. He must have earned his pay packet at some point during the year according to the Match Committee coming in 16th in the Bluey.

You're having an ellipsis fit!

That's super negative stuff there, jnrmac... CAse by case basis when you lose people, otherwise you run the risk of being super blasé...

2015 Player Review - # 37 Aaron vandenBerg (R)
rpfc replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah, maybe better than 'right'... I just don't think there are many talents out there that would last that long to get to the RD. The reason that he only had us and one other club looking at him was because the NEAFL is so looked down upon. If he was in the SANFL (he was on his way to Centrals for 2015) he would have been taken at 50 by one of the Adelaide clubs I reckon in the coming draft... -
Well, I for one am very appreciative - he gave us good service for years (sans 2014) and then gave us a parting gift...
-
The only problem with having fake interviews is that sometimes a fake interview is the most genuine...
-
The cap is $11m next year and will be about $15m when Hogan signs his million dollar contract. So paying great players in the interim won't mean that he doesn't get that contract... Might help him to re-sign that contract...

Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...

Yeah, that set us back... Tanking is different depending on who you talk to and how they define it. If you want to legislate against tanking then a narrow view of telling players to lose should be the waters edge; positional changes, selection, and season ending surgeries are not the sole domain of those wishing to lose. If you don't care about punishing those who tank then the broader view takes us all the way back to the end of 2007 when we began 'retiring' professionals and stalwarts of our club and replaced them entirely with youth. That was when we began to prioritise something other than winning the next game. So it depends on your own personal definition of tanking as to whether we did and for how long, and the impact it had.
