Which is why we should have pursued Hayden McLean instead of Grundy.

This is an argument for another thread but I would argue that Max needed to lay down his truth on the FD - if you want to make me a forward, I won’t want to do it nor be able to. Then we could have pursued a different strategy along the lines of McLean.

  2. This selection says a lot of things about The Grundy Experiment, the Future of Grundy, the Spargo Situation, the Laurie Opportunity, and the Tomlinson Conundrum.

Also, some on here are playing 4th dimensional chess when it comes to player roles. Selection Integrity demands that there be consistent roles across the teams that player compete for - Speed Forwards as Stafford calls them - however, each of those player have different strengths and conceptualise the role according to their capabilities.

It doesn’t mean they don’t play the same ‘role’ and it certainly doesn’t mean they can’t lose their spot to a similar if not direct replacement player.

Doesn’t surprise me that stat. Some would think he lost more games, younger fans would think he won more games.

Nathan Jones played in over 200 losses…

Well done to Max for staying himself and becoming a champion. One the best 3 players I have seen in red and blue. The other two also playing on the weekend…

Spargs role is not the same as Nibbler. Nibbler plays ‘on-ball’ a lot, to say he’s a regular ‘first hands’ attendee at stoppages (rarely CBA), so will obviously get more possessions. Spargs is never that, he’s next layer out, wider for the release, of which he’s just one of other options.

All players spend time in defence, as defined by the back half of the ground, given the high press. Chandler is always the last line, the most attacking line, as per JVR. Spargs will be higher in that press, closer to the defending goal. Different role.

There’s no doubt that Spargs possession numbers are his weakness, but I reckon he’s top 5 for ball use in the team. Top 3 probably. Bringing the two together is obviously the goal, and he’s taken his chance to offer just that again. He gets 15 possessions, the team benefits hugely.

I think they are similar roles that are played differently because of the varying strengths.

ANB is different because of the work he does to release CP5 and CO13 at stoppages but MC need to decide what interpretation of the role they appreciate best and/or are complimentary.

I think Spargo is a momentum killer and he dwells on the ball to much for a team that has too many of those players up and down the ground.

But we will see what the FD think soon enough

Im hearing Harmes is on circa 500K pa. If we were to move him on for scraps (3rd rounder) and traded Grundy out who is on reportedly 600-650K pa. Surely we could put a decent contract in front of a needed player? Then there is additional cap that maybe freed up by a retiring BBB or a departing Tommo. I doubt TMac will retire and probably need him for depth - if he does somehow get back to '18 or even '21 form it probably can make the 22.

Expecting we get 2-3 players from the draft including Brown's son so they'll be on minimum wage. Still leaves a potential treasure chest even if Grundy did stay.

    Potentially.

But potential is wishful thinking until it isn’t.

  6. He’s already getting stints in the middle. This year has been great for our continued competitiveness at the top with Rivers and Pickett through the middle, McVee down back as an attacking yet capable defender, and Petracca proving he can go forward whenever and cause headaches.

Caulfield is LITERALLY...not figuratively...but ACTUALLY  the Geo Centre of Melbourne...is does not come any more CENTRAL than Caulfield.

Parking for who...you ??   who cares..No disrespect but training facilities are about the Club and Players.  There is NO WHERE in the Port area that has the potential space that Caulfield has.  As to how amenable either is...  the Port area is easily tied up with traffic . There will be ample parking within any new development...   It will be accessible via all three modes of PT

It's time to move on from this idea of we MUST be next to Mummy G...I mean ffs...    Great Sporting Clubs around the world pick locations that afford the greatest potential to create world class facilities...they are often NO WHERE near where their so called 'heart' exists.

Caulfield is a very rare opportunity....  if we dont do something we'll be nomadic forever.

Yeah, my care factor is so low on this that I won’t say much but yes - this is for the effing players and staff. It’s got nothing to do with proximity to the G because that was always a dumb reason to locate a training base. It has nothing to do with getting fans there because that is the nuffiest reason (if I can use that as a pejorative adjective - and I think I can) ever conceived on this topic.

    Anyway, yay, one training base…

Same here. Jaded is a slave driver.

I mean, another DDOS attack on Geelong regional infrastructure??

Couldn't find a thread on him, so thought I'd put it in here.

I hope we're into Ben McKay, provided he's willing to come across a bit cheaper.

He'd be an upgrade on Tomlinson, serve as May's ultimate replacement, allow May to play higher up the ground and enable Petty to go forward permanently in 2024.

We might try and back Adams and Turner, but I don't think either of them can play on that gorilla type and this is what free agency is for. To enable the top clubs to poach good players from struggling clubs. 😉

It could be our Frawley to Hawthorn move.

I would prefer his brother at the right price

Eesus. Melksham as our main target? That’d be why we lost the match.

While I don’t disagree with the sentiment, the main reason I think he gets the most targets is he is the smartest forward we have atm taller than 5’9 and on slow plays - he draws the eye and the footy.

I totally understand it’s not as simple as this but I would preferred we lost on sat night moving the ball with dare and lost by 5 goals trying to fashion a forward line that can kick a winning score.

  11. I think this is all up to Max.

Again, if he has to ruck for 100 mins to be effective - he will be taking a lap of the G in the back of a Toyota before l the 2025 GF.

Can you be effective on 70 mins ruck? Can you stop talking about how much you want to make it work and just do it? Just be in each moment and positively impact it?

I would not have done this trade and I would try to get out of it but I can see the logic - there’s just one man standing in the way…

  12. Must beat the Hawks of course.

If we don’t, and the Blues win up in the GC - that Sunday night back back of us in Sydney and Carl against GWS at home will be 4 teams playing for quite a bit.

I don’t want to be playing for anything.

Used to be. Has become a bit of a liberal s*^thole now. Drugs and homelessness everywhere in the city. Was surprised after being away 15 years, what a dump it’s become . Becoming like Seattle or San Francisco in the US. Still the best sporting city in the world

Yeah you and @Deebauched left the country and came back to some change.

Maybe, maybe, it is you that has the issue? And maybe, just maybe, you should let people be and not [censored] all over everything.
