Agree with this, but I don't want to see our best ball movement in Round 23 against Hawthorn at the MCG. I want to see it in September.

I also think losing Petty has robbed us of going quickly to a long contest. We're more likely to try and work by hand and short quick kicks, but we pieced together 4 or 5 good chains today.

We still haven't quite found the balance of attack v defence.

Let's see how we go now that we're guaranteed a double chance.

Ps. I think if a side goes to work on Rivers, we might struggle to move the ball from back to front quickly. He's become our Daicos over the last few weeks. He chips and handball receives and kicks with such penetrating, we get great territory. As evidenced by his 496 metres gained.

Yeah, I agree, we have improvement in us but as a warning and a possible explainer for an impotent September, it’s important to note where we’re at.

As for Rivers - it is so important we keep him free to ignite.

  2. ND4 still on but the Reid deal is dead now.

All good. Chucking a bonafide young talent into this team will be fantastic.

They may dangle ND4 to get a star KPF and I would encourage that but it would have to be a game changer. McKay after a medical on his shoulders, Naughton after a medical on his knees, but I am naming those two without knowing what talent is there in U/18s.

If 5 years ago someone told you we’d be a top 4 side three seasons in a row, with a flag under our belt, you’d tell them to go lie down.

I would tell them to lie down because I would have murdered them

Dont give me hope like that

    DONT DO THAT TO ME

  4. I said this a few weeks back - we are not going to be ‘out of games’ but we will have periods of dominance that I just don’t think we are going to be able to capitalise on with the way we move the ball and the space and entries that we create.

    61 Inside 50 for 87 points.

Never sneeze at a tough win against a resurgent Hawks (they need to be remain dead a bit longer so let’s hope something happens) but we have not seen our finals forward line and we have not seen the best of our ball movement.

We just need a win to get the 6th position.

    6  Footscray  48  % 129.81

    7  Casey  44   %  130.13

I heard the commentators say we need to win by a certain amount, not true.

6th guarantees a week off, as 7 to 10 play for wild card entry into finals.

    Screenshot_20230820_133740_Chrome.jpg

Percentage will matter if we don’t win by a few goals at least.

For example, if we win 129 to 103 we will still be 7th.

Our percentage win in this game cannot be lower than 127.18. So if they score 80, we need to score 102.

    85 - 109

    90 - 115

  6. The tech isn’t good enough but also it was good enough to overturn last night. The frame rate is reprehensible for a pro league. News corp and Seven shell out the cash to keep others out of the game. They do not care about providing a good product. It’s stuff ups like this that take the air out of following the league, same with the fixture and with umpiring in general.

I’ll be honest I thought Campbell was not going to make it. She played as a forward in a couple of the early VFLW games and looked out of place.
As Dees in October said she played in the ruck today and was getting a lot of air at the centre bounces. Apparently she was a Victorian age high jumper so that will explain the leap. In the last she was out jumping the Hawks ruck and hitting the ball forward where our mids would run onto it and kick quickly to the forwards.
    Early days but looked good.

We have a ‘Gawn type issue’ in the women’s team with a dominant ruck coming nearer to the end and Lauren also struggles to impact forward to allow a back up decent minutes. It’s not one to worry about just yet but it’s the one downside to the amazing strike rate of rucks this club has had for 40 years.

  8. If you would have told me 10 years ago that an Aussie manager in 2023 will have beaten Man Utd in a game for points and we would come 4th in either WC I would have been pretty rude.

    Mate ... i get it..

Youre constantly harping on lije some kid who didn't get the choccies..

We understand this may be a bust....in the greatee scheme of things. Brodie may or may nor be at Melbourne next year.

Max has certainly benefited from him being here which means we ( Dees ) have benefited.   In fact we may not be in the position we are had he not come aboard.

Had we not 'tried' we probably be a bit stuffed righr now...shades of 22.

So instead of trying to ram your monotonous rant down everyones throats for the upteenth time...  and i just know you've got an " i told you so" waiting in the wings...  why not just stfu on this for the time being..

I rate your postings generally.. but ffs ...give itva rest... lets see how it all pans out.

As you say...water still going under the bridge.

    Go Dees..and I for 1 ..thanks Grundy.

    Cheers

I get what you are saying. They are hardly rants, although I can harp.

And I have nuance about this trade and what is next for it - I just effing hate it when people will say something to your face as if it’s a certainty and when it doesn’t happen - they just move on as if they never thought it.

  10. Ladies and gentlemen, today we gather to bid farewell to the Geelong Football Club, a team that provided endless, until now, joy to a backwards people that like two thing; pingers and surfing. With a penchant for government money and an uncanny ability to recruit absolute chards, the Cats have been a source of pain for those of us who relished in their misfortunes.

Their legacy of shattered dreams has now been renewed and long may it flourish. The way they managed to raise hopes only to let them plummet into the depths of despair was a true masterpiece of psychological torment. The Geelong Football Club served as a stark reminder that even the most seemingly formidable opponents can be brought down by hubris and Jack freaking Higgins.

Through their numerous grand final losses and heartbreaking defeats, the Cats inadvertently united their adversaries in a shared delight of witnessing their downfall. Recent history put to one side, we will always be grateful for the unforgettable moments of schadenfreude they provided us, reminding us that even the mightiest can stumble when it matters most.

So let us not mourn the demise of the Geelong Football Club, but instead celebrate the joy that this has brought to the football community, as we revel in the joy of what the Matildas have done these last few weeks, can we also shed a happy tear for a September where Chris Scott can wail and groan violently to kitchen staff as his Tex Mex takes just that little bit too long on his stop in Dallas as he tours international clubs looking for someone who wants to talk to him.

May this legacy be one of humility and a testament to the shared humanity and grace of those that only go over the Westgate to get to the Hume the other way when it’s bonkers up at the ring road.

Bagging the opposition on a banner is not something you see these days, certainly not with our Club anyways. But this happened today…

Bit of early crow there boys?

Seems Max is playing fit and well at this time of year compared with this time last year.  I think that's got to do with the ruck minutes he's shared with Brodie throughout the year, ruck minutes we wouldn't have been able to confidently put into a third stringer.  So there's that contribution from Brodie in the bank.

I noticed that Mason Cox came on last night and played with a purpose to put his name in front of the Collingwood selectors for the first final, and we're likely to be their opponent.  Are you completely happy for Max to go solo against Cameron and Cox if that's the way it turns out - particularly with Cox's tendency to try to hurt Max?  What if we lose and face Carlton in week 2 with Pittonet and TDK vs a beaten up Max, again solo?

There's a bit of water to flow under the bridge ...

Plenty of water to go under the bridge - I just don’t ignore the tonnage of water that’s already flowed.

    aaaaaargh!   Never mind. lol.

Seriously , isnt Pink Lady the brand name or used to be of a certain street product in St kilda?  . just saying.

This would be one of those things that happened when you were living overseas - we helped facilitate breast cancer awareness and some men were so secure in their sexuality that they could wear pink/salmon clothing. Still there are some that projected their own homophobic self hatred but that’s a history lesson for a different mirror.

  14. In light of his non-selection a few may need to revisit their confident dismissiveness they met the reports/opinions of Grundy possibly not playing finals, leaving the club in October, and the whole thing being a misguided venture.

If Grundy leaves (and I doubt it), who is our next in line ruck if Max goes down?

    Anyone?...

    Anyone?

If you were in the Demonland Pub and loudly asked that question, you would be yelling ‘Anyone?’ over about 15 people telling you ‘we would go and get someone to backup Gawn who is less expensive and more comfortable playing less and/or playing more forward’

So meek posturing aside - if Grundy wants to go we will facilitate and that recalibration may make us a better team.
