Yes, You are correct about round 5, slipped my mind but I am trying to not think about that game ever again. I really value him so highly as a defender and don't know why we are robbing Steven to pay Jacob. We have seen this regularly in defence but forward in these games he has only taken a handful of marks. We are going shorter in defence with the 7 rotation now being - May, Lever, Rivers, Brayshaw, Hibberd, Bowey and McVee which in turn has seen an increase in marks by opposition inside their attacking 50. Agreed that it ain't broke. I'm a big campaigner for the Keep Petty in defence, I haven't seen enough results to change my mind yet.

I've been very impressed anytime I have heard ANB speak. He bleeds leadership.

completely agree, we both think the same way and need to find those kicks and angles we had earlier in the year. I also think if we switched the ball a little more as it would open up the ground a bit better. We rarely do it compared to other teams but when we do we tend to get an avenue to goal or at worst a turnover at half forward.
-
I understand it's deliberate choice because moving the ball 50 meters forward to a new contest is more ideal when under pressure and unable to get to the outside, which also allows our defense the space and time to structure up, I just think they can do better with the inside 50 entries like we showed in the practice game against st kilda.
-
at least were at our prime and not needing to rebuild this time.

Brown kicked 4 goals in both the first two games of the year and looked great. He plays on the oppositions best defender and we don't kick it well to his (or anyone inside 50's) advantage. That is the problem, the players dump kick half the time to the oppositions advantage wasting 40% of our inside 50s.
-
Where he is played is the difference, Petty stops way more goals than he kicks per game. Since he has been played forward our average score against has gone up a couple goals a game. He's played forward for 4 games and kicked 2 goals 1 for the season, It isn't working.

Welcome to Demonland: Jacob Van Rooyen
FritschyBusiness replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Set shots have greatly improved this year since choco took over goal kicking coaching. -
I umpired local footy about 18 years ago. The umpires for the league would catch up every Wednesday night, we'd watch tape of any controversial decisions from afl games. If there was any incidents on the weekend in our games it was shared and discussed. Then would do some laps of the oval and some ball work. I would assume the AFL umpires would have a performance review during the week and would at least do a bit of running to stay fit for the games.

Sam kicked 5.5 on the weekend for Claremont, has a lot of potential and will have more eyes on him because of JVR . -
A lot of talk about to 10 game win streak at the start of 2022. We also started 2021 with a 9 game win streak, lost to Adelaide by a point then only lost 3 more games for the year and won the flag.

Great teams still lose matches throughout the season. We have travelled quite a bit, haven't had a settled side this year and our defensive chemistry was completely off for that game. We ran into a red hot bombers who have had a bit of a dream run so far and who were traveling for the first time this year. The game was what it was. It doesn't shake my confidence in a Melbourne side filled with the most premiership players i've seen in my life.
-
I would explain to your friend that anytime theres a stoppage in play it allows your team the time to set up defensively and match up on opponents. Good stoppage teams (like us) love a reset when the games not going their way and a chance to win the next contest. Some players will try to hold up the ball because attempting to create a stoppage in some situations is better than the ball spilling out when your defence might be mismatched further up the ground due to the flow of the game, player outnumber etc. It's hard to explain because the game is so chaotic .
-
I hope that the fact that we also have high quality premiership players running around eases your worry. :)

I am actually a big Georgiades fan. He showed a lot of promise as a junior. In a video posted by the club post draft, Jason Taylor said he would have taken him if available with the pick we took Trent Rivers with. So there's no doubt our recruiting team also rate Mitch. In my opinion, He hasn't had a great run at it to be developed into a good forward yet and a new environment would be valuable to his development. To elaborate more from my initial point. In terms of list management, we also currently have Fritsch, Schache, Van Rooyeen, Jefferson on our list as forwards. so until Brown or Tmac retire there isn't really any room for another.

Tmac and Brown are both contracted until the end of next year so whilst they are both on the list there probably isn't room for another forward.

What they area saying at Punt Road
FritschyBusiness replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
I had to look him up after reading his name in this thread. He is Richmond's 23 year old regular vfl ruckman. Pick 63 in the 2017 draft 1.98m and has played 14 games of AFL. Edit: He is 6-3-5 in those 14 games. Has played in 3 draws in 14 games, incredible stat. -
The reason why I bring up Alwyn is because you said in your previous post "something thought up in the land of never never. " I had historical reference of that exact thing happening. I'm also not arguing for or against it happening in this instance. I'm just saying it happens, and has happened at ours and other clubs in the past. In terms of selection last weekend, Melksham and Jordon are not "fighting" for the same spot. Goodwin loves his team balance and system. Melksham came in when Brown was a late out, a forward for a forward. Jordon was the sub. If Brown wasn't a late out then Melksham would have been playing at Casey and Jordon would have still been the sub.

I prescribe 1x rewatch of the 2021 grand final and if still feeling symptoms, the mii of the 2021 PF against Geelong. If you are still suffering please return for a new prescription.

Essendon literally did it with Alwyn Davey when Simon Goodwin was caretaker coach. - https://www.afl.com.au/news/870487/dons-double-davey-delight-a-plan-10-years-in-the-making All clubs do do it, We did it recently with Nathan Jones in 2021, He played the first 6 games, they got him to 300 then he was sub the next game and then only came in to be an unused sub in round 15. Melksham has kids and we will want the rights to them, that's apart of the footy business.

Gather Round in Adelaide 3 year extension
FritschyBusiness replied to YesitwasaWin4theAges's topic in Melbourne Demons
My biggest problem with gather round is the choice of opponent. It's been spoken about in the media (mainly SEN/AFL360) as a "bonus round of footy " an "extra four points". Yet, its the only time we play Essendon this year is that round. ( I think the same for Freo V GC) and possibly other match ups were also the only time they will meet for the year. How is that fair? Surely all games this round should have been against teams that you play twice in the year. -
That's an odd assumption to make. This guy watches about 7 games a weekend and regularly watches the dees because "were one of the most fun to watch". I brought up his comment because he isn't emotionally invested in the team like we are. One of Jordon or Harmes needs to be in the side, their defensive efforts are needed. Like you, I also prefer Jordon.
