Generally, the commentary team "cheer" for the losing side so the game seems more competitive and engaging. Happens in almost every game.

It took a year for May and Lever to get their chemistry, it's gonna take a year for Gawn and Grundy

The talk has come from GW bringing it up on Crunch time today and to put it in his words "Sure, Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant tag teamed sometimes but they are better opponents" It's not happening, we are not trading him.

Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition

Can Hawthorn win 3/4 games to get above Freo? They have North, Richmond, St Kilda, Collingwood, Footscray, Us and then Play Freo at the MCG in the final round Freo's only soft game coming is against West Coast -
Shortly! Waiting for my brother to come back from walking the dog

Yup blokes get dropped, players go in and out of form etc however, Teams aren't picked based on player salary - they are picked on player role, performance and team balance. Trust me, what players are played is completely irrelevant to the selection team Not one person at selection would ever say "but we should play this player cos we are paying them X more than..." They would get laughed out of the room. Friendly reminder the current best player in the comp (Nick Daicos) is on the same contract worth as JVR which is pre-set when drafted.

Media really going overboard on this. Nothing to worry about here, he's having a week off big deal. I think the work on his forward craft stuff is something the media has made up as a reason... Casey aint even playing this week. Grundy has played every week this season and this will be the only game this year we've tried with just Max.

I'm pretty excited for this kid and the way our ruck handover may work. Kalani will be available to be drafted Nov 2025. The same time that Gawn's current contract ends where he will be 34. Grundy is contracted until 2027, so we could forecast for Kalani to start getting games by 2028 after 2 years development.

I've been ignoring his opinion for over a decade now, my life and my view on footy is so much better for it. Only show I watch nowadays that he is on is Sunday Footy Show, I watch it on replay so I can fast forward when he starts talking.

Just sitting on my couch waiting to head to the ground thinking about how much I bloody hate Brisbane

Completely agree. Kicking accuracy inside 50 to a target and towards goal has been the whole issue. Fix that and we enter 2021 finals form.

I haven't stopped smiling since I heard the announcement.

Whilst I agree there are no excuses, I disagree that Oliver coming in wouldn't have changed our forward connection. He is our best star and the best hands i've ever seen. He doesn't fumble and he hits targets all the time with his hands. The way we play going forward of the ball has been very different without him, the way we move out of the center has been different. We haven't been spreading and hand balling out of the contests the same since he's been out. Since Oliver has been out Petracca has put the weight on his shoulder and has stopped hitting up forwards and started blasting it at goal.

Very interesting! Harmes named on the ground so looks like he's in for JJ. I'd assume Bowey for Hibbo and then who knows from there, Brown for JVR?

Today feels longer than the 9 day break it's been.

I'll be spending two hours on a train tomorrow, i'm almost annoyed its not a 3 hour ride so I could fit the pod all in this one trip.

So with the Dan Butler one, Does the tribunal result mean that the free kick for dangerous tackle was incorrect and it should have been holding the ball?
-
That was a very dominant performance littered with small errors throughout the whole game. Should have won by a lot more but didn't kick straight, Carlton were never a chance at any stage.

2023 List and Contract Details
FritschyBusiness replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
I remember Gus and Gawny reacting about their "salaries" in the media back in 2020. https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/melbournes-max-gawn-and-angus-brayshaw-react-to-published-afl-contract-figures-c-1205143 I think you might have gone overs on quite a few -
we will be fine

Yes Jayden and Jack 100% both wanted to stay with us but moved to continue playing AFL level. Their opportunities were dried up and that's why they had moved on, our list management wanted to move into a different direction and I agree with their decisions on both of those players. I believe Sam was happy either way and if it didn't work out with Essendon we would have kept him on the list and not get Shache. Harmes' personal leave has nothing to do with the club.

Firstly I'll say in sport the word deserve is an interesting one. I don't know if teams really deserve anything, cos you earn Premierships and awards by winning however the number 1 pick you get by losing, is considered a win. It's good because it removes a direct incentive to tank. You can do it, but good luck getting pick number 1. San Antonio are kind of like Hawthorn, had a solid team that won championships across a very long time. They are rebuilding and hadn't found the right player to build around, now they will have him. Detroit and Houston traded away their better players to be terrible in the hopes of snaggin him. Hornets got hit with injuries Trailblazers are like Freo, they are terrible at the trade table and Dame (like Fyfe) can only carry them so far I'll agree that 82 games is way too many in a season for NBA, I think its ridiculous. When you have 30 teams in a league, it's going to blow out, but also all those games bring in massive amounts of revenue that go to the players. Being able to watch your team multiple times a week if you want to is pretty fun though. I actually think we play to many rounds in AFL but thats a seperate conversation. The play in tournament I like because those games mean something, any kind of knock out game is a spectacle to me. It puts the players under huge pressure to perform with their finals hopes on the line. Jimmy Butler has had a decent season, but he is another level in playoffs. His performance today was a beauty to watch even for a Celtics fan like me. My favorite thing about NBA is the Playoffs and having to win 4 games, the stories and battles between the sides. the changes in tactics between games, the clutch situations players at put in. Players have to be good on both ends and the weak players get exposed in the playoffs, just look at Dillon Brooks. There's still things that I don't like about in the NBA, just like theirs plenty I don't like about how the AFL is run. In AFL it would be fun to have a play in because it keeps supporters hope in a season a lot longer. Wouldn't it have been nice in 2017 to have one more crack at getting in when we finishes so close to the 8? It would have been interesting to see how we turned up the next week after that loss to the magpies. Now in reality, Not that it would be actually relevant to the competition because outside of bulldogs in 2016, a top 4 team wins every time. Lastly, the media just wants more player movement because it makes their job more interesting and easier. Talking about players moving clubs are the easiest click bait articles to churn out and most of them never come true.
