Hardwick was playing finals. Goodwin isn’t. 4 years is enough time to imprint your personality and style on a group. Our style is chaotic and disconnected. And inconsistent. There is no other factor that matters other than results. We’re not a young developing team. We are finals ready and have been since 2017. Comparisons to other teams is not a basis for holding unto a coach but if you insist then I suggest we’re more similar to St Kilda before they removed Richardson. Ratton is doing a much better job. You’re entitled to your opinion but I reckon we’d have a better chance of success with someone like Ross Lyon at the helm. If he does win it I’ll eat humble pie but unfortunately I don’t think it will come to that.

His brother was Sean Og O hAilpin Setanta kicked his team mate.

i don't whether he listens to the other coaches or not, whether he stubborn, whether he's innovative or not. All i know is results have been sub-par during his 4 years in charge. Other than a flukey run to the prelim in 18, which turned out to be a mirage, we have been consistently inconsistent, incapable of beating the top sides and miss finals. If the head coach isn't responsible then who is?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHARLIE SPARGO
BDA replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I’m not a fan of threads for specific players and particularly players who are young and developing. They’re under enough pressure as it is. And we should remember that players don’t pick themselves, either in the draft or at the selection table, and they are reliant on the coaching staff addressing deficiencies in techniques and skill. If there’s a failure its either in recruiting or development. As long as players are professional, hard-working and sweat for the cause we should just leave them alone. And if we insist on separate threads then I’d prefer to focus on senior under-performers such as Melksham and TMac. They’re well paid and in the case of Melksham, the application isn’t there anymore. He deserves some home truths. -
There’s been some humdinger names in the NRL. I reckon nothing can top Fuifui Moi-Fui Moimoi

I don’t rate Goodwin. But maybe he hasn’t had the right team around him. Maybe now his strengths (not sure what they are but presumably he has some) will shine through and he can lead us to a flag. It’s not possible to win it with a dud coach so if he does lead us to the promised land, I’ll gladly change my opinion and heap credit and adulation at his feet. I’ve never wished to be more wrong about anything.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - FRASER ROSMAN
BDA replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I like the name Fraser. A great name for a cult hero I reckon. -
The highlights look very impressive. Evasiveness, hitting targets, tackling. with a couple of check side goals for good measure. If he can develop and reproduce these skills at AFL level then we have a real player on our hands. Melksham has competition, finally.
-
Or maybe it was all a ruse DS and we really wanted Fraser Rosman all along ?
-
No worries. Chocco will work his magic.
-
Why do you say its going to be a super draft Poita? I think its going to be a bigger lottery than this year. Plus we can always trade back into next years first round just like we did this year.
-
Music to my ears. None of this try to make the 8 and win a final mediocrity. Top 4 and a crack at the flag has to be the aim.
-
Christian is fine. I'd prefer he focused on helping the likes of Gus and Oliver emulate Petracca.
-
Both great appointments but Williams has more runs on the board. If i had to choose between the 2 i'd choose Chocco.

Welcome

Wow! Huge get

3 years was not enough time to finish what he started. He should have stayed for 5. And he lumbered us with Goodwin.
-
I’m sorry to see him go. Met him a few times at events and he always gave the time of day and was forthright with his answers. I was sat beside him at a lunch once and asked him why he stayed at the Dees given we were such a basket case (about 5 years ago if i think). He gave a wry smile and said the job satisfaction would be greatest helping a struggling club improve. I always liked him after that. That said 13 years is a good run and maybe a change is for the best. I wish him well at the bombers. I think he’ll need it.
-
Maybe thats why they're bringing him across?

I reckon the go home factor is overstated DZ. How many players drafted from WA actually end up going home? There’s only the 2 teams over there. And Freo isn’t exactly a destination club. When Kelly had the option of Freo in 2019 he turned them down so the home sickness can’t have been that bad. Hogan of course went back but has left again. McCarthy went back and that was a disaster. Bennell didn’t work out. Rory Lobb is a good pick-up for Freo but GWS didn’t try too hard to keep him. So you really only need to worry about West Coast and they still have to trade if they want a player. I don’t think go home factor should not be a consideration when selecting a player. If the team is successful the WA players will stay put.

I thought he was going to play a pivotal role in the working group tasked with getting the home base project off the ground. Or was that just BS. And I didn't know Richardson "replaced" him. I would have preferred Richardson get the a**e. I like the pick trading Mahoney has been doing and wouldn't be surprised if he pulls another rabbit out of the hat tomorrow.
-
My recollection of the interview Bartlett did back in July is that he was bullish on the home base. Plans to be announced imminently (my impression 6-12 months). He didn’t give himself much wriggle room should the plans hit a snag, put his neck on the line well and truly. No announcement within the next 12 months and he’ll have to resign.
-
Good point. I don't know if restrictions are in place.
-
I don’t know what "AFL standard" is in terms of facilities but as one who has seen the inside of a few gyms you just need to make sure the basics are covered, the rest is just for show. The basics of strength and conditioning hasn’t changed all that much since Arnie was winning Mr Universe comps. As long as you have the kit to perform deadies, squats, benching, rows, presses you’re covered. Hopefully the roof doesn’t leak, the plumbing works and they’re hasn’t been any shoddy workmanship such that a shelf or a weight falls on a player. From the brief clip the gym seemed fully kitted out and there’s ample room. (Maybe a sky-light to illuminate the space a bit. Seems quite dark).

Hope you're ok L36. Looks like your prophesy was right up to round 6 last year but we turned the corner and are in good shape going into 2021. The list is Top 4 imo, we have Yze back on board, BB to slot the goals, the finances are stable and hopefully plans for our new base will be announced soon. A lot to look forward to i reckon.
