Would make more sense for us to to do a side deal with Carlton where we don’t go for Martin in PSD if they don’t go for player we want at 9 and we do a deal with Freo to swap pick 8 for pick 10 and 22.(provided players we want are still there before we make the deal on draft night) They still get the players they are after but so do we are we get pick 22 as a bonus.
-
Jeez if it worked out like that Freo would be the big winners with them getting Serong, Stephens and Henry

I’ve changed my mind on splitting pick 3. Now think we should just take best available at pick 3. Also think we should do full due dillegence on Freo academy player Henry for pick 8 and let out interest be known. He is rated as best small forward in most draft articles. He may be a good option for us but even if he’s not it would be no harm to have Freo concerned that we may take him before their pick 10 and in effect cost them a top 10 pick. Freo will also be concerned Carlton may pick Henry Then come draft night, depending on how things fall we could always try to split pick 8 for pick 10 and 22 if we know we can get player we are after at 10. Perhaps a goal scoring mid or small forward. Which ever type we miss out on we can go for at 22. Which means we could get half back in Young at 3 handy midfielder like Stephens or Robertson at 10 and small forward like Taylor at 22 If things don’t fall our way we just use pick 8 on player we want.

Poll: Who do you want with our first two picks?
Colm replied to furious d's topic in Melbourne Demons
I voted Young and Weightman. Young seems to be the safest option to succeed at the level going off reports and clips. Would be happy to then take a bit of a punt with 8 on someone with a bit of X factor who can hit the scoreboard. Voted Weightman but would be happy with Stephens or kemp either. -
This. Think this could be massive. Carlton will now be looking for small forwards which will make freo nervous as Carlton could nominate their academy player Henry at 9 and force freo to match and in effect cost freo a top 10 pick. If we were to do a deal with freo to swap pick 8 for 10 and 22 while having an agreement with Carlton not to pick player we want at 9 and we will let them have a free run at Martin means we still get the player we want at 10 and get 22 as a bonus.

Can you swap picks in the preseason draft?
-
Perhaps we could agree they won’t draft weightman if we have a pick after theirs? Might give us a stronger hand with splitting picks with freo?!
-
Given that Carlton missed out on 2 small forwards during the trade period and have pick 9. Getting pick 8 in for small forward looks even better than it did yesterday

Hawks and dogs are also in the market for a small forward and they have pick 11&13 I think so this might of influenced our decision to get 8. Anybody have any idea what Bonar is worth is Giants can offload him to Essendon tmw? Wonder if we swapped 3 for 6 with whatever they get for Bonar and attach a veto for player we are chasing with our first pick? They would still have to get past picks 4&5 but might be worth’s shot
-
Agree. Think this will force GWS to split now as we are in a better position to bid on Green as if they match then gives us more options at 8
-
That’s prob as good a deal as we can hope for. If we can hold on to 26 as well gives us a very nice hand going to the draft.
-
I’m not across the draft prospects but most articles in the media have him around 5. If GWS think young or any other player is a better player or better suits there needs they will not match for Green. But at least people will still be able to complain that we don’t have any quality small forwards or enough players who can kick straight.
-
At that stage it’s too late to be any good to us other than revenge. If there’s anybody in the draft after the first 2 that GWS rate higher than Green then we get another inside mid for what?! To stick it up GWS??? Cats are prob in need of an inside mid in that age bracket than we are.
-
Dunno why there isn’t more chat here about a split with the cats. Their list manager came out and said there’s s player in the draft they like and the only way to be sure they get him is to have pick 3( or something to that effec). They have 14, 17 and 24 at the min. Prob not what we want but if 17&24 could be turned into a top 10 then happy days. We need to be talking to them regardless even if it’s just to force GWS hand.
-
Yeah I came to same conclusion
-
Delighted with this. Well done Mahoney!!
-
Cats could be an option I guess. Really want to get a top 10 pick though. If they could swap 17&24 into a good pick in the top ten then it would be more appealing
-
Think this will go late and also think/hope it will involve splitting the pick. Freo will want to get the Hill trade done so they have better idea of where their at. Langdon + pick 6&7 for pick 3,22, future 2nd and third. Just hoping have no info Means they will have pick 3 will be able to pick up Henry too and their academy players next year.
-
Been thinking about this after listening to their list manager on trade radio this morning. He seemed to be saying they are sniffing around the Daniher trade. I assume for pick 5. Isnt Green an inside mid?! Giants will know we are stacked in that department. Not sure what Adelaide’s priorities are but maybe not an inside mid. If giants can get a hold of pick 5 and put it out there that they won’t give it up for Green then maybe we don’t have any real bargaining power with them for pick 3.
-
If we pick him at pick 3 then we will have brought in 3 wingers and no small forwards(assuming we get Langdon). Think if we going to get him we need to split the pick.
-
Jeez Stephens does look good in that clip. Can’t see him getting past pick 6/7 if freo have them as they will be looking for wingers if both Hill and Langdon leave
-
I like this. Thought it was overs but tried it in the draft calculator and pick 3+22+ future 3 is same points as 6+7. Would stil be able to trade future 2nd round for Langdon and we still have our first round pick next year. Freo get pick 3 and and 22 plus picks for their academy players next year
-
Ah right I’m with you now. You think this would give us more of a reason to split pick? As if we add him to other top prospects we could surely pick up a good prospect anywhere in top 10?! Thoughts?
-
Yes I know it’s also overs for any small forward and same for their father son( going only on what all draft prospects articles are saying)My point was more that with pick 11 and father son they are in a great position to get the 2 type of players we are after and if we do split pick they will prob have a crack at a small forward before us.
