  1. No sh*t sherlock, I don't agree with it either! Look at the bump - it has almost disappeared overnight from the game
  2. If the AFL were fair dinkum about protecting players' heads, they would punish elbows to the head (accidental or otherwise) as they have done with the bump (e.g. Dangerfield on Kelly). And it removes the grey area of trying to determine if an elbow is careless or not (e.g. Hawkins on May, Hipwood on Ridley, Dangerfield on Vlastuin). If Fritta gets off tonight, I suspect the AFL will look at doing this.
  3. Gotta love the media when it comes to elbows: Fritta - ERRANT Hawkins - ACCIDENTAL Hipwood - ACCIDENTAL
  4. Trading out Andrew McLeod for Chris Groom was pretty good too: https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/trading-trick-or-treats-20111009-1lft1.html

I don't really like digging up old posts/threads (heaven knows I have posted some shockers over the years on this site!). But I really think Josh Mahoney deserves a bit more credit for the tireless work he did behind the scenes in getting guys like Lever, May, Langdon, Tomlinson, Hibberd, etc. to the Club. These guys have been huge acquisitions for us and we really need to appreciate the part Mahoney played in those trade deals. Especially when the Norm Smith medal is hanging around Lever's neck at the end of September. Go Dees!
  6. And to show how stupid the HS SuperCoach fantasy game is, he ranked second WORST of all players for the match (just ahead of medical sub Ross)!

So true. And how good would it be to beat a top 5 team like Richmond and then go 10-0! Tidbit: we have only beaten five top 5 teams in the past 10 years: 2012 Round 10 Essendon 2016 Round 20 Hawthorn 2017 Round 8 Adelaide 2018 Round 22 West Coast 2018 SF1 Hawthorn
  8. As much as I have criticised Clarry on this site for various things over the years (e.g. kicking scrubbers, overhead loose handballs, grinning after missing easy goals, etc.) and posted heresay about his text message to Cripps last year, I am sincerely happy that he has signed on. Clarry is a genuine A grade inside mid and we need players like him to finally win another premiership. Well done to all involved who helped him over the line in the contract negotiations. Go Dees.

And I thought the AFL regarded the head now as sacrosanct? If Dangerfield gets 3 weeks for an accidental clash of heads, Hawkins should get 3 weeks for an accidental elbow to someone's head

There would be no doubt if a no-name Melbourne player like Trengove or ANB were involved. How strange that Hawkins doesn't get cited for his errant elbow yesterday that caused major damage to his opponent's face but gets 3 separate suspensions for puny jumper punches causing no damage whatsoever. And Dangerfield doesn't get cited for his errant elbow in last year's GF but instead gets 3 weeks suspension for an accidental clash of heads. Perhaps errant elbowing has become a thing again in footy.
  11. Yes, tended to hook it quite a bit. Kicked 25.38 in his unfortunately short career. Still was great to watch, especially his marking and unusual kicking action:

Um, you might want to add another 374 games to the 1986 tally: Todd Viney - 233 Earl Spalding - 109 Warren Dean - 32
  13. And unfortunately the bravery of the victims often doesn't translate to sufficient punishment for these rockspiders. This teacher who abused Rocket and nearly 20 other kids over a 10 year period only got 1 and a half years in jail because he pleaded guilty. Initially he received a wholly suspended sentence from the Magistrates Court!

Yes, he won Round 2. He is now one of the nominees to win the whole thing. The only other Dees player to ever win the whole comp was the Wiz back in 1998 with this beautiful torp on the run:

  17. Isn't Hannebery a 3 time all Australian?
  18. Give it a break mate. Gawn hardly struggled. He clearly beat his direct opponents, Hunter and McKernan. What else do you want? He had 40 hit outs, 17 disposals, 5 marks and 3 clearances. And he was scragged and had his arms chopped constantly but the umpires as usual missed all that.

  22. Rubbish. Up to this point, Oliver is no better than Yze. Here is a little comparison (21st century stats only): OLIVER YZE GAMES 99 177 GOALS 29 196 ALL AUSTRALIAN 1 (2018 on the bench) 1 (2002 on the wing) BROWNLOW (BEST) =9th (2020) =3rd (2002) And Yze was definitely a better kick than "scrubber" Oliver....by "quite a way".
  23. Good riddance indeed. What goes around, comes around. Finally gets his comeuppance for his own racist comments in 2013. But like Teflon Trump, got away with sexist comments (Wilson, Rowe) and dishonest dealings (Olympic Park) over the years.
  24. My point exactly. He should have moved himself into the midfield or defense and taken on some responsibility as captain, rather than hide in the forward line
  25. And don't forget Green's performance on that fateful day down at Geelong when we lost by 30 goals. He was barking orders as Captain from f*cking full forward. A real Captain's performance that day - 3 marks, 2 tackles, 0 goals, 0 points. Pathetic.
