He's not anymore. He had a contract clause that said if he played 30 games in 2 years he gets an automatic extra year. He's ended up playing those 30 so he's now automatically contracted for 2020. The sticking point is he's pushing for 2 years as an extension, and Carlton just want to stay with the 1.

Yeah, look talls are 3rd down my list behind winger/outside runners and small forwards, but we definitely have a lot of work to do on our list this offseason I reckon.
-
Yep, all fair enough mate, you raise some good points. I'm not super duper keen on him, but for the right price I feel some kind of mature KPF depth would be handy. Cheers!

So if Weid and TMac get injured again, like this year, then we have Petty and Preuss as our key forwards? Not convinced by that. The current reigning premiers have a pretty good tall forward setup. I'm not saying we invest heavily in gun key forwards, I've already stated that a few times, I'm saying our depth in that important area is now very poor. Surely we saw in the Sydney game how much a lack of tall forwards hurts us? And that was with all of Trac, Fritsch and Melksham playing. In that game we had 55 inside 50s, but only 11 marks inside 50, and a total of 5 goals.

Yeah can totally understand all of that mate. Wonder if we'd look at one in the draft then? Just feel that TMac, Weid, Petty and Preuss isn't much in the way of key forward stocks. IMO our 'quality' trading will go into the outside mids, so couldn't see us adding a gun key forward and players like Casboult and Jenkins seem the more realistic options.

He's not. If he hadn't played 30 games in the last 2 years he would be, but because he reached that number it triggered another year on his contract.
-
How many "match winners" do you think we can get in 1 trade period?
-
Yeah fair enough, don't see why we couldn't have more than one 'focus' though? Would hope we'd be more active in the offseason than that given the year we had. With T.Smith apparently gone, J.Smith no guarantee, Preuss a couple of preseaeons away, Keilty gone, we'd be going into next season with TMac (iffy proposition given this year), Weid (still a while off) and Petty (hardly proven) as our key forwards. I'm not saying it's our biggest priority, I agree outside run is, but it 100% is a need IMO.

Potentially available due to an 'awkward' contract situation at Carlton. Short version is he played enough games to trigger another year (2020) but given his form this year he's gunning for 2 years. Would be 30 when next season starts (birthday is in March), so 2 years doesn't seem crazy as far as we go. The problem could be the trade and wage cost given his lift this year, but for the right price in both regards he could be a handy pair of hands and back up ruck for us. The attractions as far as the club goes would be his versatility and that it gives us more options to play 3 tall forwards, which seemed to be the initial plan this year. Thoughts? Coling Young, owner of CSA who manage a ton of gun players was saying this morning he thinks a few clubs will look to split picks this year due to the quality of the draft. Especially clubs with top 10 picks. He's been told that when in conversation with club recruiters. Our first pick will basically be pick 4 after the priority pick and academy pick for GWS, and with our 2nd rounder earmarked for Langdon it seems a wise choice for us given our lack of depth if quality at the moment. Obviously it could change pending anyone who requests a trade out, but as it stands based on our situation THIS YEAR and all the context around it, I'm in the affirmative.

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy

We're 1 spot above GC on the ladder mate. -
No. Happy to trade TMac for pick 53?
-
Haha yeah I guess you could take the 'logic' to that extreme if you wanted to. But the context comes in to play, and you wouldn't see it when someone has picks 1 and 2, especially when they're clear ahead of everyone else and are best mates.
-
If they do, and I reckon it's a big if, I reckon it would be because as I mentioned above the first 3 are already locked away, we might be looking at Serong or someone else for a specific need and be happy to slide a little bit given it means we keep a second pick despite trading one for Langdon. If that makes sense? Edit - Wait, were you meaning GC's picks? Sorry, bit confused....

You realize Goodwin was the second choice for us behind Dew? -
Nah, lock it in mate, both are off to GC.
-
Not saying he's been great, and clearly we've struggled in those areas, but wouldn't you think that would mean you wouldn't get rid of him so quickly? Surely delisting players who have strengths in your areas of weakness isn't a solid strategy for improvement? I'm not surprised he's gone, I thought he may have actually retired, but I just disagree with people who try to paint him as something he's not.
-
Rowell and Anderson are 100% GC bound. Green will be snapped up by GWS as an academy selection. That's the likely top 3 IMO and we're no chance at getting any of them, so I don't mind the possibility of trading the pick. Wonder if we'd be looking at either North or Port's first two picks as a swap, meaning we can trade our second rounder for Langdon and still have first and second round picks?
-
Leads us this for both average goals and average tackles inside 50.
-
You'd think so. Gut feel is we'll get on with it quickly to try and move on from this season.

Garlett and Keilty officially gone.

Bloke gave us some exciting times as a Dee. Will miss him at his best. Best wishes to Dec as well, seemed like a hard worker. Garlett and Keilty depart

Great point! Hadn't even thought about that.

I would class him as a young, improving winger. Couple of injury bumps along the way so has been a 'late' bloomer IMO. Good athlete, sold kick. The key word in regards to us that you'll hear about him is 'competitor'.
