Think a lot of us thought it might have been a factor, but geez when a former assistant coach says you're lacking leadership it's a bit of a (correct IMO) whack on the directional abilities of the leaders we had out there this year. Rawlings, who this week accepted a new job at North Melbourne, said a lack of on-field leadership left the Dees exposed when coaches couldn't get a message out. "The runner thing absolutely killed us, as a young group," Rawlings said on RSN radio. "The AFL, I'm sure, didn't do it to discriminate against younger lists but we were quite immature across the ground at Melbourne, (there were) some leaders at certain parts but overall quite inexperienced, so the runner thing really kills you." AFL Daily: Runner crackdown cost Demons

Same, sadly.
-
Rumour going around he may announce his retirement soon.
-
I really do not want to trade him. He's a unique asset and came a long way in 2019, BUT would we consider Frost for Isaac Smith? (Not saying I want that, just wondering what the club would be looking at)
-
Yeah, but thought there was word kicking around a couple of weeks ago he had re-signed? Edit - Scratch that, just saw @Demon Forever's other reply. Cheers.
-
Any kind of source of reference for this mate? Didn't he just re-sign?

AFL 2019: Todd Viney to depart Melbourne Football Club after 10 year off-field stint Already has something else lined up apparently. Not sure if he's leaving due to that or lined it up due to leaving, but I'm thankful at least for his solid and settled presence over a time our club needed it.
-
Yeah I'm not advocating for Richo to be in that role, just having a guess as to why it hasn't been formally announced yet what role he will have. Would rather have one person per role personally, but you never know what will happen now with the soft cap I guess.
-
The club hasn't said anything yet (which I find weird), but Richardson chose us over Essendon due to Essendon not offering a senior assistant type of role, so would make sense that he took the Dees job because that was on offer. Of course, there's the potential that he's also got some kind of list management involvement and that's why it wasn't announced yet seeing Todd is still there at this stage.
-
I'm hoping we can do both. We need to be reasonably busy this offseason IMO, not over the top or 'scattergun', but more than just the one trade and one high pick. Bringing in a mix of trades, draftees and free agents will hopefully improve our list, especially our depth which got found out a bit this year.

Have heard there will be a departure announcement today, assuming it's Viney but don't know specifics. I would be surprised if it was the last change though as apparently the review has been pretty brutal. That's just gut feel though, haven't heard how many more changes there will be.

That's the lot of us Melbourne supporters.

I'm no draft expert, but all the commentary I've read and heard about this year is that it's not considered a very good draft outside of the clear top 2. That's one of the main reasons industry people more in the know than us have suggested teams will look to split their picks this year. The GWS option to work with their academy pick is one, but let's not also discount the chance that we look to get a future pick as part of the split. Of all the club fans to not be too obsessed with a few spots higher, Melbourne ones should understand the most. This draft is not the 2018 draft, and it's not the 2013 draft. Strange that those examples are brought up when you could just as easily bring up all our failures that were top 4 draft picks.

Because 16 clubs are above us?

This whole riddle thing is a bit silly, don't see the point, but yet here I am.... Matt Buntine - Basil Bunting.

"A symbolic clock is as nourishing to the intellect as a photograph of oxygen to a drowning man."

Yeah true, hadn't really thought about that.

I don't know figures obviously, as none of us would, but gut feel is Weid and Frost wouldn't have had big pay rises. Weid due to his form, and Frost due to his career to date. Jones last signed an extension after winning 3 consecutive Blueys, so his pay cut would have those minor pay rises more than covered IMO. Brayshaw and TMac would have already been in considerations for this year so I wouldn't think their contracts would make much change to our budget for outside players this year. Just as Lewis and Garlett leaving would have been figured in. From memory, when the TPP changed last time everyone got a raise across the board.
-
It's the next couple of years that are the tester more than this one IMO. We have to hope Mahoney manages things well and that we can turn the ship around a bit so weren't not relying solely on money being the attraction.
-
Wouldn't think Weid would have got a big increase to be honest. What other players have we re-signed this year who would have had big rises? Would think any rise Weid (and probably Frost) got would have been cancelled out by the reduction in Jones' new deal. Guessing of course.
-
Wouldn't think we're currently paying 100% of the cap and need to delist contracted players to afford one. Especially given Lewis & Garlett are gone already.

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy

"Goodwin said poor kicking efficiency "killed" the Dees, who were unable to convert strong work around the ball into a winning score" Source Not that it actually makes any difference whatsoever.
-
Haha true mate.

What will you be saying that about? I wasn't saying he doesn't have designs on being a senior coach, I'm well aware of his level of ambition, I'm disagreeing with you about the circumstances of his departure.
