  1. Won't they ?
  2. Think they were still talking about the effects also of rain mate. Strong westerlies will prob bring the rain quicker.!!!
  3. I think you are overestimating the Lever influence. Sure Jake is the No 1 King down back with plenty of help from Maysie. But To say he he has the same influence in the workings and strategy onfield in our Forward line is overstating his role. And that is a good thing. It doesn't make sense that Jake is the Captain of our forward line. I regard Jake as one of our best players and leaders and ge may be our next Captain after Gawny. He does a fine job down back and that's enough to ensure control there. Great that he is with us another 4 years and let's go out and beat those Pies on Thursday.
  4. We also have to remember every recruit is different. Just as about 90% of D/Landers were ready to throw Bailey Laurie on the scrap heap about a month ago he has looked in about 3/4 games ( some D/Lers we're vocal on his being given the promotion saying how did it happen) small sample but very effective and looking comfortable and up to the AFL standard. Another slow developer was Chin but ha has save for a game or two looked very much an AFL player. We are a little, some a lot too often writing off players and it has proven that our steady as she goes can produce AFL players. And the Judd McVees are more a rarity from the lower parts of the draft. What a beauty he is. Naturally we expect our high draft picks to mature quicker and that is fair enough. Rjay has 2 knocks on Jeffo both only points in my opinion not reasons he hasn't the skill to make the grade. One is that he is introverted. That may be holding him back in his first year but next year he will have another 5plus kg on his frame and will no longer be the "baby" in the group That Will be the 2023 Draftees and he will also be in pushed from under by wanting to develop to a higher level than the newcomers. It's a mental thing. If he thinks about his game as Picket Fence says he does I will back him to be more out going and noticedin 2024. The fact that he was selected on a "needs basis" and for this same reason James Cook was also and looking at him he was introverted. He was a total failure as a CHF/FF recruit so MJ has the same two reasons for failure as Cook. No mention of the fact that we were a basket case in Cook's years and refer to the last 7/8 years of very successful drafting and trading so let's back JT and Lambie on their record plus our development program has been high class since the same period. Also Casey has developed into a reliable and consistent base for our list I the same period with the likeness in game style etc. the same as for our AFL heroes. Nothing is a given but most would agree that MJ has shown at times his undoubted class and skill and this is a great base to build a career upon and Avery good reason he was a No15 First Round Draft pick. That he is a boy/ man at our footy Club going through a first year is similar to first year at High School after being the big boy or kahuna at State School. Perhaps Fritta or Tmac could take him on as a sort of a project to work with him from pre season on and fast track his ability and game smarts etc. Let us remember Juddy smf more recently Bill Laurie and that breakout lamp in the dark sensational 2015 Cattery breakout game from Maxy. MJ is not near that yet but maybe in the scond half of 2024 he will play that breakout and be on his way then in 2025 he joins JVR in the big time regularly and our forward setup is as Goody JT and well over a quarter of a million Dees fans are salivating about now. It just takes patience and trust plus development and time. We gave Sam Weideman 4 years after his 2018 breakout and showed patience but it didn't work but Chin Tmac Sparrow and Laurie are proof that a little time especially for key position forwards is worthwhile and the rewards are definitely there. T. Hawkins says Hi!
  5. Well BBO why did you ask the question when 95% of football followers know what the figures on attendances are?
  6. Laurie May get a run but will surely be in the 23 on his form last Sunday.
  7. If it's Joel Smith he has already got a week off as he is prob not going to play with Casey unless they drop him. Salem's last quarter and a half was good and he should be kept in the team IMO.
  8. Welcome Back Luci hope your holiday was great. But you have completely misread my post. "Argument" may not be the best description of my point. A recent post by a DLander recently this season alluded to our attendances by saying some of our crowds figures were boosted by the bigger Clubs and in their opinion did not reflect that our supporters were part of the excellent attendances we were getting. If you read BBO's question I believe he could be more asking about MFC % of fans in our figures to detract rather than highlight our very credible attendance figures in 2023. My point is that all Clubs play each other and one of the major issues are the Alice Springs fixture plus the Blundstone Arena Kangaroos game. BTW I still think we should maintain that game as a football development and tourism event for the NT people's benefit. This years crowd was affected notably by the tension and racial drinking issues in that City. Actually we easily got half or more of the 8,000 Blundstone crowd if you compare the game Nth vs Suns last week which was only 4,000. But it still robs us of say 10,000 or more than if we played at Marvel. (Granted this is an away game in any case but just making a point). For the record we are sitting at the stage of being the nearest to theTop 4 Big Clubs Pies Blues Tigers and Bombers and are 5th/6th now ahead of all other Victorian and Interstate Clubs in the AFL. Compared to our membership we are doing extremely well and increasing season by season accordingly. Cats will undoubtedly increase from next year as their redeveloped home ground can take 40,000 and May be the AFL will be fair and send ALL Clubs their to GHMBA Stadium, especially if the GFC can raise their profits for each home game to near or greater than if they play at the G. The Caro's and and Sam McLure's of the world should study these figures and understand where we are in the very competitive market of AFL plus only about 12,000 off our MCG home target of 50,000 per game in our 2020 Strategic Plan. Well done Dees fans and if the crowd next Thursday is more than 93,500 (approx) we will have attracted our ONE millionth fan to our games for 2023. No mean feat no matter which way you look at it Caro and Sam?
  9. That's probably why Disco Should play next Thursday night and Laurie also. Don't flirt with form. Tommo is always the unlucky one. He is reliable though and a great one on one player. Disco has pace and youth for future. Half back is his role I reckon.
  10. Don't start that argument. It's the same as each team plays each other over a season. We are now becoming a bigger Club season by season.
  11. Massive Overreaction. There was no force or malice intended in the push. Jake was just very unlucky.
  12. Thanks Andy
  13. These are the same as posted on April 26 earlier this year!
  14. Perhaps check up with Club but $10 entry nnmntickets may need to be purchased unless you have an AFLW season ticket at $30 if you are an AFL Membership ticket holder. Otherwise I think an AFLW membership ticket for the season is $60. Look up under membership and the AFLW section first for advice. Good Luck and enjoy the game.
  15. Congratulations to all at the MFC Board, Players (AFL, VFL and AFLW) and every fan on this magnificent achievement. The Strategic Plan aims at 75,000 so we are that close. If we can win our 14th Flag this year it's totally on the cards that we can get to 75/80,000 in the near future. Heady and even more exciting days. What we need is the extra 5/10,000 each game especially our lower profiled games vs GWS Suns Freo and North to consolidate this growth. Our 50,000 average home MCG should be smashed next year and all those reserved seats for sale in the Ponsford Stand will be gone also. Mubb B h to Perty,s drlight. Big month of September starting tomorrow night with the fantastic record winning AFLW premiership team in the spotlight opening their defence of that great flag just under a year ago. Strength in numbers Dees there are still some fans to join and be rewarded by our major role and that is to continue to play consistent strong tough and exciting footy that makes us so proud of.our Club. Go you mighty Dees. Onwards and Upwards. Play with that Demon Spirit and be Possessed!!
  16. Yes was at both and enjoyed them a lot. Guess the semi in 88 as it put us into another Prelim Final.
  17. These sessions are always conducted on the Clubs terms. It's about reward for the fans and if you are a player this can be so uplifting. I will never forget the training runs before the '87 and then the '88 Grand Final especially. Bring them on I say. Go Dees. PS Great photo autograph and merch opportunities for all.
  18. Why ET better than a pick 47 who can't make it. He may never have the skills. History might show a No 7 has some very good attributes but for various reasons isn't comfortable in the environment. He may be squeezed out with the midfielders "club" of say Rowell Anderson Miller etc. for example we don't know. There is no right or wrong with recruiting unless some issues arise from history and are not changeable. We have shown we are a very good Club with a great culture and taking a chance on a talented youngster who May have an ego is hardly like a much injured player with a fitness issue. Both are solvable and we can't have too many "problem child's" I agree. if he fits a need on our list ( not sure of his physique or body details) but he started off kicking goals from half forward I seem to recall. He may be happier here in Melbourne with his brother and possibly his family. A player is not a No 7 for nothing so keep an open mind and it's up to JT and Lambie to check out I say.
  19. This year if Goody had Bedford I think he would have handled him differently and shown perhaps some more patience. It was the same with Chin he would always be the first dropped. And Toby did not play in a role as strictly as he is at GWS I don't feel. It just shows that a change of Clubs and another pre season plus natural maturity can make a difference to One's form and output. Really we have Chin who has made it his time after 2/3 years and GWS have Toby so it is a win win situation and the jury is still out about the winner at this stage. May be years before we know any winner if at all.
  20. Clarry not a champ?
  21. Was recruited the year prior 2021 draft not last years SOSNS.
  22. We met in 1989 it has been mentioned but it certainly was in a semi in 1988 at the G which we won.
  23. Tmac only change for Melky or if defender needed then Hibbo if passes fitness test.
  24. Am I a bit star struck that Bailey plays a little like Sam Michell. Lacks a bit of pace but has skill and poise to use ball well. Will be great op forward also an on baller or centre of the future. Think he kicked a long left footer (opposite foot) near to the front of goal in the last quarter, correct me if I am wrong. That's priceless in traffic or on the run. Should be in 23 for next Thursday as sub even in front of JJ.
