At long last a microscopic look at Kossie's underperforming and approach to the team. Partly I also blame the Coaches( Goody and Stafford ) for not getting any apparent improvement since early in the season. Not any on the ball or cameos at half back to get him " started" and no team play limitations like his ridiculous marking attempts that are virtually all "unrealistic attempts". Sad that since his contract extension the fizz has gone out of his team play and our results have been ordinary as well. We can't afford our equal best goal kicker to fade off in firm and contribution to our efforts .

Good point KITP and Your namesake Kossie would do well to do some some searching on his game and attitude ie flying for MOCentury and no hope of getting it. His job is to crumb and wait at the front mainly ( occasionally at back ) for opportunities to convert.

Fair enough if the medicos get on top of it and judge that he be managed.
-
Are you for real? Jack does not need managing when in top form.

I told a WC supporter last week ( on a Train Special Trip all around Switzerland heavy AFL discussion) that no one on the East Coast of Australia especially in Vic cared a toss about the Eagles and their predicament. In fact that them and The Pies are most hated opponents as their supporters are the worst and most arrogant in the AFL. He still thinks that it will only take 2 seasons to be back in the hunt but alas is a bit impatient about who they are going to trade out and when are they going to start getting rid of most of their gassed and banged up heroes of 2018. And who is going to want any of them in their present malaise?

That's part of the problem really A great side has multiple type players who can stand up and play strong but win games on their ability alone. we have clearly not enough X factor players with ability up forward at the moment to win games especially in tight last quarters. This Goody likes certain types all over the ground has to alter as it is not working. Howes perhaps is a chance to be one and I have no doubt that Jefferson when he has another pre season or two will develop his exceptional forward skills. JVR of course should in the next 2 years develop as a fine leader of our attack unless we get another trade in to perform the No1 role.

I really think it's time that Melbourne coaches reassessed the value of our ball winners ( all players) and stop lauding the more talented gatherers who waste their efforts with patchy or very poor disposal. Time to value players who get 12/15 genuine disposals and achieve rexults as score/goal assists or passes to other players in a chain. Our game values are based on our mids as bulls which while it's our standard start of our game we need to become far more concerned about what we do with the ball. It's the same with our goalkicking bring wasted and demoralising by shabby attempts at icing ouff etc good play. Also lead down the ground not into pockets for maximum effect. Until the coaches are prioritising this in our play the waste of talent in this team will be its next biggest feature after our 2021 Flag. And if I I hear Goody poo poo that our accuracy is not one of our biggest challenges thats probably why he has made no move to solve the problem of Greg Stafford still having the forward post as Coach. ( with Chocco sometimes lending a hand. )

Pickett has not dropped six potential MOY. He has not got near most of his flying attempts either too far back or blatantly unrealistic jumps that are spectacularly nowhere near marking. He needs to be coached a little more and set to team standards to become effective again. Where is he when we want a match winner in the last quarter ( Could ask that of many really) like last week and vsFreo. Inaccurate kicking spoils many fruitless Melb forays forward and spoils some good play to some extent.

Sorry not HD ( meant to be he) Salo.

It's up to his 2021 best ever form the last 3/4 games. Agree but HD was a revelation in our flag year,

McVee so you are not that honest!!

Totally agree and we need to move Stafford out or to another area but it's not working and our players are terrible shots for goal set up by very average footy. it must be deflating to the players who once the opportunity to kill the game by scoring something comes over they panic fumble or make bad decisions. Has been going on too long now amd it must be addressed and Goody cannnot just brush it aside. Next week we will be under pressure as it now looms as a must game if we are any chance of Top 2 or even 4. Shocking selection effort and feel very sorry for Tommo who played his best game ever for the Club. Jordon Spargo and Chin are all not playing well and ANB must be dropped to get more out of him. Petty was rushed back despite Goody saying things at times which don't happen. From one of our best efforts which was like a 5/6 goal thrashing of Pies we flounder again scoring poorly when playing well. We have to put goals on the board when on top and not give sides the opportunity to get back into it. That's really 4 bad last quarters in the last 5 games. Port we lead at 3:4 timeFreo was average, against Blues only 1 goal Pies they out scored us as we wasted the shots and this effort we folded again from in front. ' Can't rely on good 4th quarters any more. Looking a bit like last year. There are opportunities but they are wasted with poor football. Whst coach can come up with an answer ?

What are you talking about rjay? -
Huge commiserations to Bernie's family on his passing and solace to all who were lucky enough to play with Bernie or see him play or barrack for him in his 99 games. He was a very good player and as noted he played a vital role in our Dee' s 1964 team's triumphant 12th flag victory. Vale Bernie Massey No 37.

We could do a lot better in fact a bloo.. lot better of getting Harry completely fit before we risk him in any grade albeit in a VFL game that he need not be playing when not fully fit. Whatever your thoughts you are not serious please, and thinking of Harry's future in any way shape or form.

I was simply providing a different opinion on your post reflecting on close finishes and predicting a 5 -10 finish as what we are worth. Completely different view with a half glass empty and yours not even half full. Cheers for now! -

What a mundane summary of our season do far. Suns were never in front and we had 5 more scoring shots. Plus the JVR fiasco stopped a good run at the start of the quarter which helped Suns get back in the game. In the Freo game yes they played better footy but we kicked the game away in front of goal. Also I suppose you thought we were lucky on Monday? Well Pies and Power have been best to date but are they going to be able to maintain the rage? Monday proved ( like in 2021) our footy often improves vs the top sides and now that May Lever Salo Fritta and Gawny have hit consistent form like in 2021 we are a much better defensive group and tighter as a unit all over the ground. We are categorically better than a 5 - 10 position and are up to our eyeballs in this flag race. -
It is potentially a younger list when about 3:4 at Casey perform consistently to put real pressure on the AFL "role players" and occasional players who go missing st times but just hang on in there. Butcwe are about 5th or 6 th oldest due to Hibbo Tmac aNd Browny.

No we all love Kossie BUT he is not in good form. First game vs Dogs that's what he can do and simply he is a little undisciplined and not in the right crumbing spots too many times. Needs a small wake up call.
-
Might be Charlie as he was subbed before 3/4 time. Let Smithyvstst he was handier than I thought. It's an X factor if he can do better than a small forward with goals and tackles and Kossie fills in the gaps as the small it's a win win. Also gives us a roaming presence in a good marking type who can go back if necessary. But he must produce or perish.
-
Better get used to cheering him as he ain't going anywhere soon. Only spot may be a swap of wings with Lingers or you swapping your preference if which side if the ground you sit. Was an amazing game as I hardly noticed Lachy much except for the obvious and also Trac get 28 disposals. Problem IMO he butchered about a third especially on the forward line. He really must just realise that most times he has another split second to steady and deliberately kick for goal rather than bang it on to his boot ASAP and waste the pill.
