PRESEASON TRAINING: Wednesday 11 December 2024
The very fact that injuries and kids have been the cards we had to deal with last year are the same reason that I am so bullish about 2025. After a tumultuous end of 2024 and pre off season with so much happening the âcrisisâ we had to have ( largely create d by journalistic sections of the AFL press, HeraldSun and Channel9 Footy Classified) the Club has emerged in a very fortuitous position. Finishing 14th ( about a win and 2% away from 10th) has enabled a draft pick position of 5 plus a creative prior pick for no. 9 has gifted 2 elite young ball getters with style and skills for the big time to blend with the older refreshed champs and solid good supports plus a dozen 19 to 23 year old very promising youngsters all in early stages of the years of their AFL careers help the blend to my eye that is captivating and hopefully we now play a brand of footy that inspires this combination to scale the dizzy Flag heights of the 2021 heroes with fast fearless and brave standards to match. Off field changes in personnel in Board and Coaching, settlement of club matters, and the promise of a new Committee approach with new life and direction are enticing for our future. Recent Progress in our Training and Administration development also has put a spring into Club steps after a long period of possibilities being dust binned for various reasons. While results ultimately determine progress and success the ground work now being laid is a great response in 3 months lead by interim President Brad Green and the existing Board. There is no doubt some AFL experts and even some of our own fans are writing us off the Top 4 and Premiership contenders list when you analyse seriously there is no reason believe our window has ended. Fortune with injuries and a very comfortable looking fixture will play a part if our dreams are to be realised. I get the feeling we are all reunited and that all feel that there is a great opportunity yo bounce back while we have an exciting and new list of unknown potential. Youth in the early 50âs led our revival and I canât wait for 2025 to test our tyros and hardened elders in the season upcoming. Check the current odds we are now at and if you are a betting person place a lazy $50 or $100 strategically on some success next year. Good Luck and Go Dees.

Welcome back to Demonland: Tayla Harris
You donât appreciate her ability to have a large effect on the game with her physical strength and marking. And she demands the first defender so that makes the other forwards roles a lot easier. If she plays at CHB look out for a stellar season. Her record of a goal a game is a worthwhile achievement in her 50 plus games. Start looking at team results not just her only as she rucks also.

WERRIDEEâS Rolling Squads
Thatâs more like it Werridee New Age vs Old Firm is the go.

WERRIDEEâS Rolling Squads
I agree with Windsor not at half back in fact centre should be his spot. If Goody prioritises half back vs wing or centre for Duke then he is again putting defence over attack and team attacking flair. Windsor on the centreline is a hoslkicker and pressure player on the opposition defence he is so good. He will kick 15/20 goals from the centre in 2025 if given the chance and truly make a huge difference to our attacking flair. Half back no Judd can do that and also Dalo and Bowser or AMW or Howes. Look at those options why waste Windsor at HB. I also believe Jeffo will be in our 23 by about Round 3/4 and Tmac might slso be. Thay would be improvements as well as Sharp over Sparrow in our team. His extra pace and forward play will also lift our team in 2025 from that one pace to fast with Windsor Sharp Kossie and Lindsay all contributing to a faster more aggressive game plan. These changes may take a few rounds but form will dictate that in time as the cream will rise to the top. Then our depth will be also strengthened accordingly.

Judd McVee contract
Surely we are talking only about Nick Daicos levels not the ordinary AFL ones which Juddy is a little above but not that much.

Eliza West and Maddi Gay
What a lot of rot that Eliza âdidnât fit into our fot structure â ( whatever that is ). She didnât have a great 2023 admittedly but a 2024 Eliza would fit into any team and improve it to Top4 standard, especially if Purcell was injured. She gets hard balls no other player can and was a great contributor in 2022 yo our Flag. I get the sentiment Libby had a poor 2023 also and was part of what I believe may have been a team upset around Finals time ( pure suspicion by the way) as they played 2 very ordinary games vs Lions at Springfield in Round 10 ( was there) and Qual Final vs Roos at Ikon in a row plus 3/4 of a game vs Cats in Semi. Very unlike that team and from then no one was singing Libbyâs praises on the contrary. Then the girls started to all want to leave âwith different reasonsâand it took until Mick changed our game plan we really got back our mojo and team spirit. Now our new girls and some this year are the start of a new era and potential Top4 team to challenge the other Big 3,who are as influential was ever. I think we need to recruit size and pace to match the new girls on the block the Hawks who as I see it will be Kangas new challengers with their height and running game. Over to the âJT ladies team â to get those good picks to develop our team from the 2022 to 2025 premiership model.

Sorry Eliza was improved with the Hawks but she is not that similar to Purcell. She is much more physical and tougher and was sorely missed and if we had had her even with the injuries we would have made the Finals and possibly a Flag chance. Purcell is a very good player but is more polished than Eliza with skills far more finished. Between the two we missed Eliza although she gid not have a great season last year. I think we need another class mid to add depth and variety to our on the ball division. Hereâs hoping we can recruit a mid this draft coming up.

2025 make or break year
Rot/ rubbish, the bottom 3 are the only ones being along way back. Look at the ladder and we are virtually equal with sides below Freowho finished 10th. L With all that happened including 7 points in four games losses some with weakened sides at the end.
-
2025 make or break year
You need to sit down and list the PROS and CONS and if you look at it critically and intelligently you will come up with twice as many PROS than CONS for a return to Finals or even a Top4 finish with Flag possibilities. Your usually half glass empty so I am not surprised of your general pessimism. Dont in any way share your view so if you act on my suggestion how you go.

Forward line fix?
Mostly I say 13/14 really but possible 35/40 goaler if 23 gamer in forward line in 2025.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Monday 9th December 2024
Thatâs probably because he seems to get more complicated leg/knee type injuries.
-
Chad Warner
Far too simplistic view re theGrand finals. BTW he was judged their best vs Cats almost the only one who stood up. I reckon if you wanted to not like that In our camp others might say Kossie has underperformed IMO in our 21 to 23 Finals in comparison to home and away games. But ha has been our 2nd goal kicker in 3:4 seasons. So it is so harsh sometimes.

Petty Training Down Back?
Horrible combination hopefully never see this mix. I could offer HF Pickett JVR Fritsch/ Sharp/Jeffo F. TurnerTMac Langford/Fritsch. At least thereâs ground ball cover smalls and Fritta can play either HF or Forward P. Much more movement and all players are interchangeable. Some will be Interchange no doubt.
-
Petty Training Down Back?
I will declare Jeffo will go well enough this year tO maintain a regular spot and maybe keep Johnson outbid a regular spot. JVR âs days in the ruck may not be over yet. At least the competition for spots will be interesting and all start with a blank canvas really. Jeffo has of all the best traits and forward skills and now with his bigger body will get some real chance to star and succeed. He will also make our forward line work as Troy Chaplin will also. Good luck yo all our forwards letâs make this part of our team the stars for 2025.

The Roy George Thread
Might get D/L ers off Frittas back if he succeeds.

The Roy George Thread
Thatâs what you go to an AFL Club to learn. 18/20 yoâs are not the full product. We put the training and playing habits into raw talented or potentially talented prospects.

Players who need a big year

Defensive forward - ANBâs replacement?
We have earmarked him for a purpose and Iâll be very surprised if he doesnât end up as Nibblerâs replacement. Or if not a slightly different version of Lingers on the other wing or he might be a very good outside mid in the midfield quartet plus ??? Who could very well expand our on ball brigade to elite. With Yhe champs back plus JV and Sparrow and Langford in due course plus Sharp Lindsay Riv Kossie and Mc Vee all being rotated through as needed. Talk about variety and versatility and most players are good / great or will be in their original positions. Only worry is will Goody use this variety and versatility??

Forward line fix?
Got years mixed up 2023 should be 2024 and 2024 should be 2025. Sorry.
-
Forward line fix?
I am with you Wrecker and get infuriated when the D/L ers IMO completely disregard JVRâs contribution in the ruck. Firstly they underestimate his worth just writing it off. He is by the Flemington straight easily the best second rock forward on our list till the end of 2023. How this will be in 2024 is anyoneâs guess. With Campbell and Johnson I would expect he might go back a peg or two. But he competes he scratches he palms he bodies and up forward I believe he engaged himself into the game more than if he was just a forward. He is not great at the centre bounce but should get more time playing behind the ball. I think he might kick 40 goals in 2025 rucking or no rucking. I think he needs to start grabbing some marks one grab and it will become a lot easier plus his confidence will soar. We can hope it this year!!

PRESEASON TRAINING: Monday 2nd December 2024
A big vote of thanks for all the reporters which makes us feel as if we are running with Tmac tacking with Clarry puffing with Maysie after his running rehabbing with Charlie and smiling with Trac plus getting his act together with Harvey yo show us what a big year itâs going to be fit the mighty Dees in 2025. 2024 a year from hell but itâs 2025 now and we will ring the Bell!!
