  1. you've basically just descibed the perfect model for a near side winger, the fat side where all the space is you have ur speed, ur bounce, ur engine working up and back but near side where the ball spends most of the time you want a exactly what you descirbed. thats why we've tried jones, vanders, harmes coz theyre bigger bodies. i completely agree re the SSP situation and holding onto blokes too long. Hunt will be a 9 year servant of our club when hes next OOC! for what? 6 good games? its pathetic and vandenberg is just an injury prone meatball who has never displayed any level of actual footballing ability or ability to accumulate possessions as a midfielder and he's not a goalkicker so what is he? this years OOC group contain our entire 2018 draft neg sparrow but include baker who have a combined 15 games. i'd love to know how that stacks up across the competition i can't imagine it's too healthy from 4 players. u can hardly call them young kids anymore they should be afl standard/regular contributors but they're not
  2. i did think we could do with an extra kit man when i was down at training earlier this week, the last bloke was getting on in age just a tad
  3. anb came to the bench an awful lot considering he's such an "aerobic beast" like at least 6 mins a quarter except bowey is training and required as a defender and can't use his elite ball and foot skills in the fp like he can coming out of D50
  4. smith* the y is in deakyn
  5. ok well yes and i get inside types take longer to develop and we've rotated a lot of smaller types off our list in the last two years and at the time i didnt see an issue with either selection, but it's always good to put the hindsight glasses on sometimes
  6. discounting the academy picks, i highlighted who i woulda taken instead, notice a distinct lack of inside bullocking types. obvioulsy mosquito showed a fair bit as has jarrod cameron and the two rucks briggs and williams look decent too but don't fit a need for us
  7. he only had one year to go! all we had to do was offer him a standard 3 year deal and flatten the coin out, promise he would walk into the 22 and it woulda been signed sealed and delivered but we didn't and now we look stupid. two players i really like for the wing spot if they become available are lipinski and vandemeer who ironically towelled us up yesterday. but OOC at seasons end and spend some time in the 2s last year even on the back of 20 touch games coz they couldn't fit them in especially with treloar now in there and mclean to come back from an acl next year. ffs ill even take lin jong. also josh kelly is the obvious like a-a grader that we should have already registered interest in too.
  8. a lot of what i'm going to say has probably already been said but i'm not going to read every single post on the thread now that i'm a couple days behind. i was at the game and there were some really concerning things which stood out to me 1. the doggies kicked 8 behinds in the first quarter and every time we just smacked the ball to a contest centre wing, didnt mark it, didnt win it at ground level and just saw it come flying back in again. after 2 maybe 3 efforts of that maximum - in one quarter - surely you have to try something else, look for a chest, actually work hard run and block to create an outlet coz it was just lazy and ineffectinve 2. hunt, in a game which is now all about run and carry and handball receives and metres gained, to have what 13 disposals? that's pathetic, especially when the ball was down there all game. never knew why he was given a deal after last season was obviously never going to be a regular in a serious side. 3. our midfield, yes we have outs but all our mids are one dimensional theyre bash and crash they can't kick (except brayshaw kind of) and now the game is less tackling, less contested and we got diced. and now they want to add sparrow and jordon in who are exactly the same mould. it can't happen. we can not play 7-8 inside winners. vandenberg is [censored] and i bet we're wishing we let him walk to sydney when they came for him. if anyones a rugby player it's him 4. our "kids". sparrow and jordon are 3rd year players now. and they tried hard yes but they got smashed and now they're not even the midfield type we need and become almost wasted selections and we can't afford to carry them in the 22 playing outside roles and baker, my god. i also called for his head last year and was fuming when we didn't go after phillips, well. send him to the 2s asap and leave him there OR he needs to be trialled at HF coz i think he actually has a semi decent eye for goal there but he just doesn't get enough of the footy or do enough with it. being quick is not a personality trait my friend 5. ANB, i've been a big critic of his last two seasons especially but to his credit he performed and played well, undoubtedly come round 3-4 the goals will dry up and he'll deserve to be dropped but he played like he cared and did a decent defensive fwd job on daniel in the 2nd quarter so i'm ok with him being there round 1 - still want him gone come seasons end tho. 6. tmac - nope, give mbrown a run this man just doesn't do enough or impact the game/scoreboard at all 7. may and lever, fantastic, outstanding, not enough superlatives to describe the impact they're beginning to have for us. but i'd really like to see petty in there instead of tomlinson, i mean the guy let firstly josh bruce and secondly some bendendo guy out mark him thats poor from a seasoned bloke like him he doesn't do enough to impact in the air can't wait to see salo, hibbo, gus, viney, clarry, weid and brown back out there can't come soon enough
  9. derek eggmolesse-smith was cat b at richmond for 3 years got delisted and invited to train on and just now signed on as a cat a for this season, running HB 2 to go, thanks to marty and nietschke they'll be taken to the MSD
  10. bold statement, what's ya source?
  11. dumb statement, it's just about the most important thing to have and every club works their [censored] off to set up a spine that is elite and builds out from that i hate that every season the pecking order seems to reset and we see all the hard work he did last year get thrown out but i back him in to work his way in at some stage before the seasons done. he'll thrive off being tossed out, kind of player you know just loves proving doubters wrong and has been doing it his whole career
  12. yep lockhart for salem but pushes hunt and riv to the highest spots and plays as a more lockdown type but i think they really want to draw that attacking side of his game out. he's a good kick i think pretty precise for short 15-30m hit ups into the corridor and to break down a compact defense (even tho that doesn't happen anymore )
  13. meek is the best ruck they've got, dont be fooled by the sean darcy is the second coming of sandilands nonsense. and treacy has done bits since getting rookied and is more than capable to replace his work i50. lobb has been lying to himself his whole career pretending he's not a ruckman. he's very ordinary as a forward hardly ever kicks proper bags and definitely doesn't tally big goals/season
  14. the way i'm reading it, bowey in for jetta at HT/3qrt & laurie for jones at same time vanders in from the get go due to no oliver, viney, gus. the correct way to use him in the squad he's not a best 22 player - full stop. keen to see sparrow, jj, harmes from the get go petty to swap out for tomlinson or to give may/lever a rest as someone on the last page suggested bedford might get a quarter late for chandler/anb i really hope mcdonald isn't playing wing and we're playing small ball in the forward line. u still need to structure up around a tall who isn't a second year player @ goodwin
  15. melky and tmac already have '22 contracts
  16. monday morning @ whitten oval
  17. do you just intentionally misspell their names?
  18. absolute star, when he grew the hair and beard out, had to rep him
  19. grundy had a poor year based on his extremely lofty standards and was still top 3 rucks in the comp last season, collingwood will definitely not regret their decision at all. and you reward your captain for their importance to the club as a whole and the extra work they put in off field to lead and create culture and represent the club? how can you not understand any of that
  20. this, and also he's a 30yo on a list clearly bottoming out and would just hold back younger types if he stuck around any longer could be a gun, could be another nietschke hardly a comparison to us and majak. one club wants to play september the other is at the beginning of a rebuild
  21. it's not really great list management really, the competition average every single season is 8 per team add in the shrinking list and it's just standard procedure
  22. mckay rolled an anke tonight, curnow LTI, mcgovern injured, casboult injured, TDK injured, he'll do a year of insurance and then i'd imagine make way
  23. Round 1 ? it in? Lever 8 May 1 Hibberd 14 Hunt 29 Tomlinson 20 Rivers 24 Langdon 15 Brayshaw 10 Harmes 4 Fritsch 31 McDonald 25 Sparrow 32 Pickett 36 Jackson 6 Spargo 9 Gawn 11 Oliver 13 Petracca 5 Chandler 37 Jordon 23 Jones 2 Salem 3
  24. no - cal moore of richmond previously and carlton listed in '20 is also training on and named on the I/C tonight. another tall type
  25. everyone's so reactionary, just let it play out. this thread has now ruled out Daw, Kobe thread has a line through him and not a single person has any credible source. the only way to look at it is that we have 4 available slots and no one has been turned down yet so they're all still a chance
