  1. We can (can we?) thank Troy Chaplin for the improved conversions of I50's... right! right? And of course my point is, what has changed, it's not really the game plan...that was there all along.
  2. It's all about standards - they can play happy, angry, sad, bored, etc -as long as they play with urgency and composure. Today was a tick. On Viney - I've always (perhaps we all have) likened him to his Dad - courageous, tough, great work ethic, ordinary kick. The last two weeks, he has been very very considered and accurate. And it feels like such a marked difference, and I can't quite put my finger on how it has come to pass. What I mean is, he has always had the skill to be accurate (otherwise he couldn't have the last two weeks) so what is enabling it? Is it him? Is it the players he is kicking to? I'm thrilled for him, that he can prove to himself that he can execute, at an urgent pace. He was bloody ferocious.
  3. what was in essence the content of what was said @Sir Why You Little
  4. how good was the call from the crowd - as he floated across... WEEEIIIIID. (he wasnt even on screen yet)
  5. Yep -started with an Oliver tackle in the back 10m square.
  6. He has arrived. 3 goals (3 assists) which could have been his own.
  7. Thought he was an emotionless robot?
  8. 80 points is the new hundred right?
  9. Oh Omac, you are a star... you don't even intend to and you take a mark.
  10. You did ring up the podcast this week, and had a lengthy discussion. Does the length increase the margin?
  11. I've drifted in and out of the game whilst I've been celebrating my mum's birthday. Anyways.. Oliver seems to be taking more contested marks - and kicking more, which is fantastic. Also, how is Jackson's leap - I've seen him leap a few times this match and not quite taken the mark. When his hands come... look out.
  12. Hence the quotation marks - and yes, thank's for clarifying for everyone the real story. Actually, it reminds me of how the media perpetuate stuff. I was watching the channel 7 show 2 nights ago with Andy Maher, Mick Molloy and Todd Viney was their guest - really great interview and went over his career. It also spoke about a story whereby as a junior he beat Boris Becker. It was told many times over his career in interviews. The panel then cut to a clip of an interview by someone from Todd, and was asked explicitly whether it was true... Todd failed to completely deny it ...rather amusing stuff!
  13. Did you know Brad Green once 'played' with Manchester United?
  14. I'm excited by this... the safe option is Tomlinson, with no guarantee, but Jackson will be exciting from a Melbourne supporters perspective with even less of a guarantee, and Smith could be exciting up forward and even less of a guarantee than Jackson... Plenty of risky moves from Goodwin and co in selection.
  15. Check out Magnetic Island @Cards13 - beautiful lifestyle, one of the best primary schools in Queensland. Easy access to Mebourne via Townsville airport.
  16. What metrics are you looking at @old dee? Or is it also, just the eyesight test? I think there was a lovely run down on the podcast last night (highly recommended listening) about the worth the Kossie brings, that is not necessarily stat based. As he has pace, liken it to perceived pressure that he brings where opponents need to offload the ball quicker... a la Aaron Davey. Aside from that (if you don't place value on it) - he had a number of direct score involvements, so again not stat based (ie: tap on to Fritsch, sheparding) but a bigger influence on the match than stats would lead you to believe.
  17. That would infer that Goodwin has a Plan B @Cards13 and also a Plan C, however many here have argued, that he is stubborn, so I just assume that when he adjusts again to counter other teams adjustments, he is just using Plan A without flexibility.
  18. I'm having a few issues with the afl website... anyway, can anyone post a link to OMAC doing this? Or at least give the time on the video when it occurred?
  19. What does Jordan offer @DurriePirate, comparatively to others?
  20. Bang on John, I'd be signing him up for the next 5 years...big breakout coming up
  21. Any coach would say it @Grr-owl, it was telegraphed as soon as the article was written. That's ok, it's the language of coaches and football departments.
  22. It's a vexed question - like who has the better Jetta (Nev or that West Coast one?) Who's the better Macdonald?
  23. No, his kicking was not freakish, that's what we expect of him.. I just meant the circumstance is pretty freakish, and that we don't often see a goal like that... often a smother occurs and it is dished off to someone else to convert. I agree re: Weideman, again, it's the evidence that updates he can do it in clinch times vs the time against Adelaide, which must have sat around for a while. My thoughts on Petracca's kick that was marked in the square n the final q - as he burst through from a centre square tap was absolutely fine to attempt - as he clearly genuinely felt he could do it (and it just didn't come off) - it was a calculated risk that failed, vs an indiscriminent bomb. We want players to take 'risks' - when they come off, they don't look risky, they are celebrated.
  24. Because it's about getting a specific amount of work in to him, each week. The process is THAT refined. It's not about the context of meaningful or meaningless matches. It's not just about 80% time as well, within the time spent out there, there will be metrics around top speed, acceleration that he needs to hit (and NOT go over). In a 16 side game vs a bloody explosively quick Tigers outfit - I'd would have erred on the cautious side as well. Coupled with that (if we take it to be true) is that he was asked to work on some things defensively, he ticked that box and he is straight back in. Remember, it's not just Goodwin who makes the call, one of the best in the business (Burgess) will call the shots from a load management perspective.
