  1. Probably the most succinct statement of where the game is at. Bravo. Yet I can't avert my eyes.
  2. Good to see Jurgen Klopp in goal as well.
  3. Quick comparison - Oliver on the left, Dangerfield on the right. Make of it what you will. First is comparing Oliver to Danger (who is 7 years older) for the current season and second table is at the same age.
  4. Imagine if he was eloquent in his interviews rather than throwing out the cliche. He would incredibly marketable and ALREADY be seen as a superstar a la Dangerfield. Alas that ain't his bag. No surfing Fairhaven in his suit for Oliver.
  5. Excellent Win4theAges - beg, buy, borrow or steal a telephoto zoom lens and catapult this man to the status and heights he deserves
  6. the ol classic lose lose scenario.
  7. I'm pleased for Weid, bobs up for 2 goals a game...even in an inconsistent side. Coleman medal form. Imagine if he had decent service.
  8. Where have you been subsequently!
  9. Mmmm north sea tidal sludge.
  10. Dutch Antilles? Now that would be jaw droppingly good
  11. Thanks @FrostyBeast - I was feeling quite emotional about life this morning. My 4.5yo got his top on... we don't really speak footy all that much in our house. But... I cannot think of any stage in my footballing supporter life, when any win felt like a certainty. We got crushed by Richard Osborne's winless Swans...perhaps 20 odd games they hadn't won... I was maybe 12 at the time. And there have been a multitude of similar performances since, that just reinforces the experience that we are all having before tonights game. What other godforsaken teams supporters at any level, in any competition, in any sport - would come up against a team 0-9 and go... 'yep, not even slightly a certainty.' "Whatever doesn't kill you, causes atherosclerosis."
  12. Just getting his Adelaide Vibe on W4tA...phwark another 6 hours to go... dragging on.
  13. Not sure what all the fuss is about. We know how it plays out, we know that when we can win, it staves of the doubt for another 72 hours.. we lose and it confirms that the team doesn't care. And it feels like all the emotional effort put in is worthless (and some would argue it ultimately is anyway). Ultimately, it doesnt care about 'us', or 'me' Perhaps that's why I get so angry, because really, I am angry at myself. Where else in my life would I tolerate heartache like this...? So here I am on gameday, having an existential crisis. Of all my 41 years of being alive, these memories flood back Crying whilst on holiday into my banana milk shake when we heard on the radio Jimmy had run over the man on the mark... loving Ricky Jackson coming out of the locker and listening on vinyl to 'some forums' theme tune listening to the reserves reports of Darren Cuthbertson wondering how some freak goal kicking, marking machine couldn't get a a run of games (back injuries I believe) the sexyness of Steven Tingay... kevin Dyson thighs guy rigonis hair a hero called Allen, another called Garry. The anticiaption of a dynasty with David and David as the spine. The spruiking of The Reverend, The joy of Brad Green vs Carlton, The sadness of Troy, Brad Miller kicking 5 against the Saints for my first game back from living overseas, thinking, we've got a superstar here! yze goal square hanger in Geelong whilst we failed to win and merely draw The hollowness whilst present to watch 186, the inconsistency of the mid 90's- 2000's. the awful skills of 2010 plus Aussi Wonnameri vs Freo, First round draft picks...none of them superstars. Mark Neelds hard [censored] attitude as the saviour(!?) Jack Watts against Collingwood...as a first gamer Jack Watts against Collingwood with the titanic In bali for the first time, in some seedy bar going beserk when TMAC kicked the final second goal against WCE to start providing some long lost hope Dean Kent in the West Mitch at the G It's my football supporting life flashing across my eyes... and it's my Hotel California, unfortunately, whatever happens tonight.. I can check out, but I can never leave. Postscript... Here is my son..just now. I am still unsure whether I have consigned him to a life of misery..just look at his head...it hangs low. He knows how to do the Melbourne Supporter look well.
  14. I have a vibe on a couple of exits at seasons end, be them driven by the club, player or both. I can see both Macdonalds but more than likely Tom move on at seasons end. There seems to be very little joy for him in the act of playing at the moment, and pragmatically contributes a little to how the team plays. I also see parallels between Brayshaw and Chip Frawley, both essentially being played out of position for the entire year before exiting the club. For me, Chip was never going to be a forward and presumably the logic was to get 20 odd games into a defensive unit without him. Not dissimilar to Brayshaw not 'really' being part of the midfield mix going forward, and that being tested out during this season.
  15. I'm too emotional to disagree with you right now
  16. Time poor at the moment *but not enough to post on Demonland A'nd there's a big revelation in episode 2, as Adrian was informing me, about a misconception that still lingers around like a bad smell - keep an ear out for that one.' - What is the misconception?
  17. Thanks for that @Grr-owl
  18. Sounds good bobby - out of interest, what's the metric for you to assess whether the approach was appropriate or not? Rather than looking at a W/L record, I'll be looking for how players compete in the final quarter. I'm not quite sure how to best measure it beyond optics on the tv, as we don't have access to km run per quarter and at what speed per player (unless someone can guide me to those details). Let's chat in 21 days
  19. As they are experts in their field, with a range of other experts at their beck and call to draw data and information from, from a biological, training and biomechanical perspective, do you really genuinely think that they would proclaim not resting players publicly, without understanding deeply what the similarities AND differences are of the two sports.. Quick maths 2x45 minutes halves= 90min 4x16 min quarters = 94min Both have periodic relentless running, whilst also being stationary periodically. I am sure this has been quantified. Also, the effort levels of walking, running, sprinting (and how things track between the two sports). Not withstanding Burgess has a long association with the AFL before he went to the EPL. They've both had roughly 20-25 years at the elite end of the spectrum in this sport. It reminds me of the Apostrophe statement. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KNOWING YOUR [censored] AND KNOWING YOU’RE [censored] I dare say Burgess falls in to the latter category.
  20. Yes AF, I did read that as a follow up (click on as many links as possible to make sense of things), and essentially it explains how the evolution of tactics in sports evolve, its' no different here in Australia. Remenber the days when publicly we were worried about flooding??? Jonathon WIlson is a fantastic sports writer... I used to read him 20-10 years ago when I was a keen follower of the EPL - I've drifted a fair bit - but it's always good to go and have a really thorough forensic analysis of strategy, I wish there was more access, or more content like that for the public to consume here.
  21. https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2020/jul/28/premier-league-2019-20-what-we-learned-tactically-klopp-liverpool-guardiola-manchester-city?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other ive just read through this article and cannot help see some similarities as to what Goodwin is trying to do at the Dees... even if you’re not that interested in soccer, this is a great piece on how tactics fit into soccer more generally, and how certain elements fit into our game. Particularly the high press. timely with this new EPL thread
  22. Has game day been rescheduled or is the AFL App not synching the calendar correctly?
  23. Many many melts, if Spargo even gets listed as an emergency methinks...
  24. 100% Beetle - close to a decade now.
