  1. There has never been a better buyers market in the coaching world than right now. In the seasoned coaches wing stands Clarko, Bucks and Lyon. On the highly respected but untested wing stands Yze and Blake Caracella (and probably others that I am not aware of). There is no way known that the AFL is going to give the keys to their orange Ferrari to James Hird after what happened at the bombers, it would be a PR disaster area.
  2. Sorry, the last remark was just me responding more generally to some of the commentary on this thread. Not at all directed to anything you said.
  3. You are entitled to record any workplace conversation you are in. Generally you would alert the other participants that you were doing so but there is no legal obligation to do so. Publishing those tapes in the media is usually a different thing, I can't speak to the legalities of publishing though and the fact that he is now living in the US and presumably published them from there may mean that Australian media/defamation laws don't apply. Given that the club was largely represented by Bucks with respect to Heritier I don't think there is anyway for him to attack the club without bringing Bucks into it. My impression was that he and other culturally diverse players attempted to engage with the club in their response to the Do Better report but no longer believe that the club is genuinely engaging with the problem. His only avenue to satisfaction, as far as I can see, is through applying pressure via social media and direct legal action - suing. While people question Heritier's motives they seem to conveniently forget that Leon Davis and Andrew Krakour have also withdrawn from the reconciliation process. Heritier seems to just be the most vocal one.
  4. I think this is exactly right. Although we try to defend the ground the same way every time, we have a few modes of play in attack and you can visibly see us switch modes when the time is right. I was sitting next to my son as the last quarter was starting saying - you watch we will slow play all our attacks this quarter and soak up the clock. This is our defensive mode once we have a defensible lead. We never go 100% all game, we control the tempo. It is actually strangely effective, when we switch gears teams get confused for s while and it often opens up scoring opportunities.
  5. Isn't that what they did at Essendon, putting Woosha in and then doing a succession plan with Truck? I just think they (or the media) overhyped themselves this year. They are a fair bit back from finals with some work to do. It is not all doom and gloom, they have some great building blocks, they just have a some work to do. Unfortunately when the media starts pumping this sort of thing up everyone stats leading with their mouths and the club can implode before the plan has a chance to bare fruit. Honestly, i could care less whether Essendon succeed or fail this time around, i have no love for the bombers, but I do hate media hype led decision making.
  6. There is no doubt in my mind that Gawn is one of the best rucks to play the game. Once someone gets to that point it gets hard to say what defines ‘the best’. So much is opinion and preference. What I love about Max is not just his mad tap skills and his marking and now goal kicking, it is his leadership. He is a big reason that we have this team first mentality that has pushed us to the front of the pack. i don’t know if he is the best that ever played, but he is a great of the game, no doubt. I feel super lucky that he is our captain, long may it continue.
  7. It’s funny how we all see things differently. I really enjoyed that game and I never thought we were likely to lose. I knew without a shadow of a doubt that we would play the last quarter slow and defend the lead we earned with a good 3rd quarter. We let an extra 10 points through than the high end of our average but we were missing some really important pieces of our defensive grid. They moved the ball aggressively and got exactly what you would expect. A couple of times they pierced our zone with multiple switches and quite a few times they came totally unstuck. i thought Hunt played a good game and a great first half. Others thought Milkshake was great but I thought he looked like an old man who can’t keep up. He kept losing his feet and the Melksham of 2-3 years ago would never have missed that shot dead in front. What I love is that we always play the same way. What makes our game look different is how other teams try to counter us. I’m glad we banked the points with so many forced changes. We got a good look at Bedford and there is definitely something there. Weed was solid as 2nd ruck and took a ripper off a mark to kick his goal. I also thought we had a great turn out at the game. It was a great atmosphere and there was plenty of red and blue. Our numbers are growing and if we keep winning like this we’ll win an even bigger following.
  8. This is going to be really interesting. I’m not at all sure how our system will stack up in the face of so many outs, including the coach. If we can get the job done this will be an incredible shot in the arm for an already confident group. Of the ins Melksham is the biggest worry for me. He has form for underwhelming pressure although I will admit he looked pretty good for Casey last week. Regardless, there is no way he can cover the distance to fill holes that nibbler regularly does.
  9. How good is it being the hunted?! All of a sudden teams are changing the way they play to try to take our game away from us. It will be really interesting to see a team bring it for the full 4 quarters, so far we have seen patches where other teams have had things more on their own terms but no one has been able to keep it going for the full 4 quarters. The interesting thing it has brought out in us is this ability to go full beast mode for 10 minutes to a quarter when the opposition loses concentration and blow them off the park. Brisbane or the Swans will likely bring a full 4 quarter effort, I can't wait to see how we respond. Bring it on!
  10. Streaming is already part of it in Kayo. Foxtel / Kayo has invested significantly in footy and shows around the game itself. Any other streaming service who won the rights would do similarly. FTA is close to dead and calling for its continuation seems a bit like 'old man shouts at cloud'. My kids won't even watch FTA, they struggle with the idea of watching something based on someone else's schedule. Seven's coverage is stale and its investment in shows around the actual game seems ever diminishing. I don't really care who wins it. I'll just rejig my subscriptions around that. I'm only paying for Kayo because of footy, if it goes somewhere else I'll just cancel my Kayo sub and pay a similar amount for a different service. I think it has to keep changing to keep the networks/services on their toes, they tend to get stale after a while.
  11. I’m not sure what people are complaining about. I thought that was a great game. Besides the goal kicking, that was a clinic in how you play the Melbourne way. We absolutely strangled the life out of the Tigers and would have pulverised them in rebound had e we kicked even half the easy goals we missed. i thought Richmond came with a strategy that might have worked but our pressure game caused them to doubt themselves and their hesitancy cost them. What amazes me is that we are just that good in our defence that we can beat a team like the tigers even when we are kicking like that. Wow
  12. Okay, then I guess my only option is to stick you on ignore, this will be my first. I really can’t see how you think blasting a fan forum with your derision for fans who can’t make it to the game is in any way helpful. You sound like the school bully who thinks he can beat and intimidate the class into liking his favourite tv show. Given that we are on a demons fan forum, you can be pretty well assured that most people here are going to every game they can get to. How about just letting people support the club in whatever way works for them rather than spraying your anger here whenever you feel the crowd numbers haven’t met your expectations?
  13. It’s not that there is necessarily anything wrong with the idea. Goody just doesn’t swing the magnets for an experiment like that these days. Partly, I think he learned his lesson with Fritsch in the early days. But mostly continuity of team and structure is a big part of what makes our full ground defensive press work so effectively.
  14. Yeah, I hear you, but I'm actually just responding to stuff that I have seen at the game. I didn't see it on TV at the Port game and I'm not even sure I'm right. Like I say, I have historically loved what he can do, but he has looked quite indecisive with the ball in his hands and has coughed it up on a number of occasions or kicked a howler. If he stays in then I guess the FD are happy with what he is doing, I'm happy with that.
  15. I agree, i think Smith will come straight back. I had been thinking that he would be coming in for Hunt. I can't decide if hunt looked more solid last week or if I just see it less when I am not at the ground. I love what Hunt brings when he is in form but he has looked shaky to me earlier in the season. If the FD read is that Hunt is shaping up then it will be Tommo who makes room.
  16. This I just want a change. I am sick to death of the old boys club 'nothing to see here' attitude around so many important issues that border on football. Pretend stances on racism, sexism, gambling, concussion and mental health while doing nothing practical to change things. I don't like the fact that my young son is more familiar with the gambling odds for a game than the players or the ground. AFL is never going to change the world but it can improve things in many small practical ways. Sorry Fork'em, if I'm sounding super woke today but hey, there you go.
  17. GWS can certainly get the job done when they are playing their A game, I wouldn't be underestimating them. One thing is for sure, we are not going to see a repeat of last week. They will try to move the ball fast to score and we'll have to score reasonably heavily to win. Bring it on, last week was not a great spectacle, this week should be much more enjoyable to watch (particularly if we win it, which I am fairly confident of).
  18. Thanks for that article mongrel, you have provided me with my favourite quote of the week: I guess everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face by the Demons, right?
  19. I watched the replay yesterday also and it looked quite different in places to what I saw at the ground. For one, you could not see clearly how massively they were flooding our forward line in the first half.
  20. It is purely speculation at this early stage but my guess is that of the new contenders Collingwood and Hawthorn will fall away as the season rolls. Carlton on the other hand might actually have something going on. I'd really like to see them against us or Brisbane or Sydney, who I think are the current fairly certain contenders. That being said they took care of the Dogs so you can't say they just have a lucky draw so far.
  21. There is no way known that Weed will get dropped. The message that would send would gut players fighting for their chance. You don’t tell players to get themselves prepared in the twos and that their chance will come and then drop them after they grab that chance with both hands. Weed will be playing next week, no doubt
  22. We must have watched different games. I thought Smith was excellent. Even when caught out of position he manages to have an effect. He is really improving as he gets done continuity. I can’t let this go by. Hunt was an absolute disaster area for the second week in a row. He couldn’t hit the side of a barn with a field kick and right in front of me in the back flank he turned his back on Langdon in the middle of a one, two handball chain and lost the ball. He is hopelessly out of confidence and form.
  23. TBH I'm pretty happy with the way we are perceived now. We are the benchmark, we'll have to do something pretty spectacularly bad or good to get the spotlight. Other teams like Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon (for different reasons) will get the spotlight for their changing fortunes (both positive and negative). 'Still Awesome' is not a great headline. We will get plenty of headlines when someone beats us though, you can take that to the bank.
  24. lol, but unfortunately very true. That was a shocker of a game for him from a dismissal point of view. He was directly responsible for 2 goals. Hunt on song is a very nice thing, opens up the ground for us so well. Hunt playing like that is really damaging. If lever or hibbo are ready to go he may well have stamped his own papers last night.
  25. There was a patch issued in September, seems to have fixed things right up.
