I don't think Jack and Frosty are in competition for a spot are they but yes, you can add Hibberd, I forgot him. Having said that there were a couple yesterday who didn't push their case so perhaps that helps Jack a little I suppose.

MATCH REPORT - IT'S THE MIDFIELD STUPID
Vogon Poetry replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Perhaps but Jake's form yesterday might have caused a rethink. It will be interesting to see if they are both played on the ground much in the next two games. -
I think I heard Goody say we played our best available team yesterday and if that's right it's disappointing for Jack. 26 players played and Tyson, Jetta and Kent all out who are sort of competing for the same type of role Jack would play. Disappointing. He'll get his go in the next few weeks and then of course he's got a year to establish himself but it would seem he's coming from a long way back.

And Weideman and AVB. Can't see Weideman playing on that form and still think he has a lot of development to go. He just wasn't in the game other than one contested mark and two Joe the goose goals. Harmes was a disappointment and I don't know what ANB brings. Spencer has really opened up some options for us. It will be interesting to see what happens. Am I right in thinking Watts was injured in the intra club last week. I seem to recall an incident where he appeared to hurt himself but then he stayed on so I ignored it. I note the usual debate over Tom McDonald. I don't understand it but perhaps I'm missing something. I think he's great but like all players makes the odd mistake. And what of Frost? Was he injured or just not picked? I thought he was very good in the intra club match.

Health said 2 to 3. But who knows.

This is such an ignorant comment but I can't be bothered giving a detailed response other than to say while Craig was there we played finals 7 of about 11 years while he was doing the job that is now covered by at least 3 people - Taylor, Viney, O'Donnell. I'm not sure how many full time recruiters we have now but Craig had no full time help. In the first rookie draft he picked Junior, Nathan Bassett, Daniel Ward, Matthew Bishop and Russell Robertson. Not a bad collection that.

There is an article about Trenners on the MFC website. He sounds really positive and is clearly a happy player with the Club. I'm a doubter unfortunately, I don't think he's got his pace back but this little puff piece makes me wonder - and more importantly gives me hope. It would be fantastic if he could get back to something like his old self - good luck tomorrow Trenners and may you have a great season. Heaven knows, you deserve it.

Second in Hawthorns B&F not good enough for you?

I'm a VDB fan. Watching some of last years replays it's interesting how many important passages of play he's involved in. He's strong and imposing, he's good overhead, he knows how to find the ball and he can play a variety of positions well.Unlike many who "rest forward" he is actually a danger and a difficult match up. Whilst he doesn't have a stand out strength he doesn't have any weaknesses. And I agree on his pace. The playing group recognize his pace. He was picked pretty much when fit last year, didn't train much during the week due to his ankle and missed some preseason as well. Indications are the FD rate him. Having said all that he is in a serious fight for his spot in the team along with a number of others. Melksham, Hibberd and Lewis have added some real anxiety to the bottom six in the 22.

That's an oxymoron Franky, you're still here! -
I disagree. I love that womens footy is taking off. I would imagine one of the last things anyone wants is to see acts of brutality like this tarnish the development of the WAFL. Downie was seriously hurt. She spent the night in hospital. It was a shocking look for the game and a strong message should have been sent. But I do understand where you're coming from.

Meg will miss something similar and has the chance of permanent damage. It's a joke. She should have got the season.

Any additional news on Meg. Personal friend of my son who was at the game. Would appreciate ate any news. -
I disagree entirely. If your assertion is that people look to blame others for their failures and that everything is in their own hands what the point of having a decent development and coaching staff? Gysberts had the misfortune to be drafted by the most dysfunctional AFL football club this century and didn't cope. How on earth can you lay all the blame on him? Gysberts was a very talented footballer and you only have to look at his early games to see this. He had clear weaknesses that Neeld and his development team failed to eradicate. I'd go further and say they were a terrible impact on him. Gysberts was an introvert and was crushed by the hostile atmosphere generated by Neeld and his philosophy. This has been confirmed to me by both players and staff who were there at the time. A good leader inspires and makes his players want to follow. Neeld did exactly the opposite. I don't know if Gysberts had fixable faults but he certainly had talent. Are you writing off Petracca and Oliver now because they struggle in the running drills? Neeld snuffed out any chance the kid had and by the time he got to NM he was shot. He didn't want to play AFL footy. Again, confirmed by those that know him. Neeld was a disaster. He alienated the senior players, he failed to develop the younger players and he left us in a significantly worse place when he left than when he arrived. Gysberts wasn't the only one significantly effected.

... include the bottom half of the list and top up players from Casey. It's a different story when something close to the best 22 are out there. Highlights for me: JKH, who I'd all but written off last year looks like he can become a good AFL footballer. Sad for ANB. Always thought he was limited and nothing seems to have changed. Weid looked a lot more competitive than last year. Salem will be a force if he can stay fit. Oliver confirmed he will be elite I started by saying at the beginning of the session yesterday that Hunt would be AA. I amended that by the end of the session by saying he'd captain the AA team. He's great I thought AVB looked good. Unlike others I thought Pencil was good and whilst Gawn is our ruckman Pencil is a very good back up. Was it just me or was Trengove prolific in the first ground drill but struggled in the match sim? I thought the physicality was reserved. Competitive for the ball but gentle on tackling. Good thing that. There is a thread about whether Brayshaw and Oliver can play in the same team. That thread wouldn't be started now. Brayshaw looked great. Frost will play and will show himself to be an inspired trade by Todd and his team. I think those predicting the demise of Bernie Vince are seduced by youth. Bernie has much to offer and looked good. Those thinking DJ is close to selection are off the mark. JG and JKH well ahead of him. Stretch will play seniors when fit. Poised, efficient and works very hard. 250 game player because he's so professional. We have lots of players now capable of playing good quality AFL footy. Nice hit out. Dancing with your sister stuff. Hope Tyson gets fit soon. He's very important to us. -
I've no doubt Scull Dog lied to Jim (and everyone else at the club). I think Danger lied. Franklin lied - everyone thought he was going to GWS. Frawley, Howe and a host of others lied. Scull Dog did nothing different to many others but people think worse of him here. And for the record I don't think it makes a difference that it was to Jim, sick as he was. In reality my question is "what was Jim doing fiddling in list management" but that's old ground and in a year where we are all so positive lets leave it. We got fantastic compensation for Scully and he did us a favour as it's turned out. Frankly I think Dangerfield is the least admirable of that lot. Adelaide had been fantastic to him, drafted him when he had a year to run at school, developed him, were a successful team and Danger ran out because he wanted to be with family. What rot. How many thousands of people have to move to countries for work reasons let alone interstate. Poor old Danger was an hour away! Scully had much more reason to leave - dysfunctional club and a contract offer than was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Danger is a great footballer but I don't like him much and I don't admire what he did.

Glad you believe that Dazzle, we can rationalize a lot of lying if we differentiate the recipient. I would have thought lying to thousands of loyal MFC fans was quite important but I'll remember it's ok for the MFC to lie to us. And again for the record, I don't blame Scully and I don't blame Roos, but both lied.
-
Some say Scully lied and he is evil but Roos lied and it's okay? Of course I don't blame either but I won't use double standards.
-
You're not suggesting that Roos lied to us when he said he didn't know Frawley was leaving are you? But your point is well made. We've been methodical and successful with our list management since Todd Viney took over. That, and the fact that Jason Taylor hasn't put a foot wrong.

Werribee has a little stand and better protection, PP and Punt Rd are much better. Coburg is better with a much bigger hill. Williamstown has a grand stand, Trevor Barker Oval has a stand and is a much smaller ground so much easier to see. Windy Hill has grand stands and Ballarat has a social facility. No ground is as exposed and all grounds have raised areas to give you a chance of seeing the game. Casey is the worst ground in the VFL for actually seeing the game which is what spectators go to do. It might be ok for the few who get to stand where Drunkin does but for the rest it's just terrible. As for playing conditions I'm not sure it's worse than a lot of the grounds but others are better. Why the Casey boys haven't planted a few trees around the ground is just silly. I'll go there because I like watching our team play but it's awful. Thankfully the burgers are great!

Life's too short Sue, just try and enjoy it rather than look behind stones for every evil.

And cover your face so CCTV can't see you. And don't use an etag. Getting money out of an ATM is fraught with dangers, they will know where you were! Don't use a credit card either. Privacy was lost a long time ago, some just don't realize it.
