My 3 word player analysis V North Melbourne
Vogon Poetry replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think Watts is playing very sore and understandably so. He's had one game where he's been a genuine back up to Gawn, two games where he was our number one ruck for the majority and a number where he's spent considerable time there. Opposition rucks have been understandably hurting him and it's catching up I think. We underestimate the collective physical damage an undersized ruck would suffer when asked to do it over a considerable period. It was interesting that McDonald rucked all the last quarter and not Watts because on face value we would most likely have been better the other way round. Take that as you may, but he hasn't played the role that is his since round one and he's played pretty well over the course of the season. He was poor on Sunday but potting him for it shows little insight.- 70 replies

AFL to change punching rules midseason.
Vogon Poetry replied to John Crow Batty's topic in Melbourne Demons
If we'd done it and won we'd be praising the "unsociable" football. I think the whole issue has gone on far too long but I'm glad it's being dealt with and couldn't give a stuff that North players aren't suspended. I wouldn't do us any good. It's unbelievable the umpire didn't reverse the free to Cunnington and give it to Vince. Maybe the MFC doctors followed the Demonland advice and didn't sink Cunnington in their medical report. Some want it all ways. Salem must feel unlucky. Nothing in it beyond a fine. -
The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
Vogon Poetry replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Good article. I liked this bit: "He’ll be doing that in red and blue. Out of contract at the end of next season, he said re-signing was a formality. “I absolutely love it here,” he said. I don't just love it because Petracca loves it, but because it indicates a fantastic environment that all the players will love and will attract others. Exciting times. -
Yes. As others would say of us. We can throw in tanking, tax office bills in the bottom draws of desks, desks worth ten's of thousands, loans to CEO's when we just went to the members to ask for money, multiple first round draft pick blunders, losses by 186, administrative chaos and on it goes. I know gloating is part of footy, it's just that every time I see a mistake I say " there for the grace of god go us".

Haaa! MFC supporters gloating over trading and draft mistakes. Gold!

The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
Vogon Poetry replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm not a McCartin fan but I think this talk is too premature. He's a third year tall. I'm not sure Boyd or Patton were much ahead at the same stage. Weideman is still miles away and wouldn't be getting a game at the Saints and there are lots of "promising" talls who are taking time. Having said that, McCartin has looked anything but convincing. It just shows what a freak Hogan is, to have had as much influence as he had in his initial seasons. Petracca is a sensational player. We are so lucky Saints overlooked him. I love his passion for the game and his teammates. -
Howe wouldn't get a game?! He's heading for All Australian. He was outstanding tonight.
-
Looks like Harmes held over and Hunt ok. Good news.
-
Was fantastic tonight. Heading for All Australian. Just saying.
-
There is a question about "will be". Your irrational dislike of Oscar is just silly. It's likely that Lever will be better than Oscar and it's likely Oscar will develop into a good and possibly very good footballer. It's time to leave your future absolutes behind.
-
Agree Red but we only have so many dollars to spend so they have to be carefully targeted. I'm not sure Jones us a priority. No issue if we get him though.
-
Melksham, Jetta, Hibberd, Salem, Lewis, Vince, Jones, Wagner, Harmes and Smith (have I forgotten someone) all capable of playing small back if needed. Some obviously better than others but all capable of AFL footy. We don't need Zac if we want to play Hunt forward. FTR I like Hunt forward or more particularly on the ball and I'm not necessarily against Zac, I just don't believe we "need" him to release Hunt.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 9
Vogon Poetry replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Why wasn't last years Hawks game "the game"? Or the previous year against the Cats. I mean, the Hawks were ladder leaders and it was the end of the season, not early like the Crows. And if we lose tomorrow is it still "the game"? -
Not poohooing this but don't we have enough HB's to release Hunt now? Also the sort of information he reveals is not usually discussed outside the FD. And Frost name wasn't mentioned as a key back. Having said that, I love the rumours!

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 9
Vogon Poetry replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Breakout games and "the game"? Really?Too many here trying to be a bit profound. IMO there is no such thing. It's an uneven progression with a trend. We are on the up. If you think otherwise I think you're in for some disappointments. -
Stopped watching when we were 26 points down Steve!?
-
AF, "even Tom McDonald"?? Really, even after that great win?
-
Waiting for Steve's analysis on the McDonald boys and Frosty. I was there, or should I say I am here. A win for the ages. Our running, particularly defensively was outstanding.
-
I'm here. Heading over soon. Great night but very apprehensive about the game. Sponsored Belly for year. Ripping bloke. Go Demons.
-
It now becomes evident why you fail to see their positives. Who is you favourite player Steve? Count how many FU's he has. What a miserable way to follow footy.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 8
Vogon Poetry replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Reckon Stretch played last week Red. -
Yes if it's to get rid of him but it's not silly if it gets us someone we really need.
-
I agree Old. Goodwin has said on several occasions that Jack is getting closer and suggested he's working on a few things. What? My view has always been that he has more footy smarts than the majority on the list, he has been praised for weeks (years) for doing the team things and he has not seemed to have played meaningfully better in the last few weeks that before. I've always assumed that his lack of pace/agility has kept him out because his skills are better than so many. So is he getting faster? Is it possible that he could go from not fast enough to fast enough during the season? Wouldn't have thought so. And play against Adelaide who have so many quick players? We all want to see Jack succeed but it's very difficult to see what would have changed in the last few weeks to facilitate it. If he does, like everyone else I wish him all the best.

The bloke gave Ox the opportunity who then took it. Ox was 100% in control.

The bloke didn't publicly shame him, Ox did.
